This paper shows the results of comparative analysis between the attributes of quality of information used in the field of Accounting Sciences (AS) and Information Science (IS.) Its assumed that the concept of quality of information is fundamental for these two areas of knowledge, but it’s a diffuse concept and it depends on the epistemological basis used to define it. The purpose was to identify similarities and / or differences between the assumptions adopted to describe the information in the two fields as a basis for understanding the relationship between information and its potential user. The results have shown not only the absence of consensus regarding the concept of information quality, but also that there is no consensus about the categories, dimensions and quality attributes used to qualify the information in the IS field. Such results suggest that efforts can be made in the Information Science field to pursue the consolidation of a general framework that could serve as a reference in the definition and analysis of information quality in this area of knowledge. And these results also suggest that initiatives can be taken in the field of Accounting in order to review its framework for information quality to incorporate into its conceptual framework, attributes of information quality considered by the IS, which can contribute to improve the quality of accounting information. © 2016, Escola de Ciencia da Informacao da UFMG. Full text link
Background: Gastric cancer mass screening using serum pepsinogen has been recognized and several advantages of this methods over photofluorography have been shown by previous study. Aims: To determine the factors influence the serum pepsinogen levels in healthy subjects. Subjects & Methods: One thousand and one hundred fourteen subjects who were screened for gastric cancer as part of a periodic health check. Blood samples were taken after fasting and stored below –20 ° C, until pepsinogen levels were assayed. Results: The subjects consist of 338 males (mean age 52.6+14.0) and 776 females (mean age 49.0+11.9). Age ranges from 19 to 81 years. The overall prevalence of chronic atrophic gastritis using a criterion PG I £ 70 hg/ml and PG I/II ratio £ 3.0 was 21.99 % in 1996 and 23.97 % in 2000. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant association between age, more salt consumption, fish favorable over meat and less than three time meal intake covariates with the lowering of PG I/II ratio. Smoking, drinking, BMI, weight and gender did not affect the changes of PG I/II ratio. Conclusion: Age and more salt consumption covariates have a strongest association with the decreased of PG I/II by multivariate analysis

Coexistence of Ferroelectric Triclinic Phases and Origin of Large Piezoelectric Responses in Highly Strained BiFeO3 films

The structural evolution of the strain-driven morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) in BiFeO3 films has been investigated using synchrotron x-ray diffractometry in conjunction with scanning probe microscopy. Our results demonstrate the existence of mixed-phase regions that are mainly made up of two heavily tilted ferroelectric triclinic phases. Analysis of first-principles computations suggests that these two triclinic phases originate from a phase separation of a single monoclinic state accompanied by elastic matching between the phase-separated states. These first-principle calculations further reveal that the intrinsic piezoelectric response of these two low-symmetry triclinic phases is not significantly large, which thus implies that the ease of phase transition between these two energetically close triclinic phases is likely responsible for the large piezoelectric response found in the BiFeO3 films near its MPB. These findings not only enrich the understandings of the lattice and domain structure of epitaxial BiFeO3 films but may also shed some light on the origin of enhanced piezoelectric response near MPB.Comment: 19 pages, 3 figures and 1 tabl

Non-equilibrium Studies in Switching Arc Plasmas in Japan

This paper briefly introduce research work examples of non-equilibrium studies in switching arcs. In understanding arc behavior, one often assumes local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) condition in the arc plasma. However, actual arc plasmas are not completely and not always in LTE state because of strong temperature change temporally and spatially, and high electric field application etc. Recently, we have a collaboration work in numerical simulations and experimental approaches for decaying arcs without LTE assumption. First, our numerical model is presented for decaying arcs without chemical equilibrium assumption. Secondly, two experimental methods are introduced for measuring electron density in decaying arcs without LTE assumption: Laser Thomson Scattering method and the Schack-Hartmann method. Finally, comparison results is shown between the LTE simulation, the chemically non-equilibrium simulation, and the above experimental measurements

Expression of Cyclooxygenase Enhances Tumor Invasion and Metastasis in Human Gastric Carcinoma

Background: Expression of COX-2 in vitro has been shown to have a number of cellular effects including increasing proliferation, reducing apoptosis promoting angiogenesis, decreasing E-cadherin expression and increasing invasive/metastatic potential. Aims: To determine the role of COX-2 in the development and metastasis potential of gastric carcinoma in human subjects. Methods: Tissue samples were obtained from surgically removed specimens of 48 patients with primary gastric adenocarcinoma who underwent gastrectomy from January 1998 to December 1999. The specimens were stained for HE while COX-2 expressions in cancer fold and antrum site were evaluated immunohistochemically. Expression of COX-2 was defined as positive when either one of cancer lesion or antrum site showed immunoreactivity. Results: Preliminary result from 12 out of 48 cases, COX-2 immunoreactivity was detected in 50% (6 of 12 specimens). Expression of COX-2 were more frequent in tumor with serosal invasion (5 of 6 specimens), lymph node metastases (3 of 3 specimens), tumor size more than 4 cm and were significant, statistically (p<0.05). The expression of COX-2 in well differential carcinoma type was similar with in poorly differentiated carcinoma type. Conclusion: COX-2 expression in gastric carcinoma tissue is correlated closely with tumor size, serosal invasion and lymph node metastases, indicating that COX-2 is involved in the growth and metastases of gastric carcinoma

Lag time and parameter mismatches in synchronization of unidirectionally coupled chaotic external cavity semiconductor lasers

We report an analysis of synchronization between two unidirectionally coupled chaotic external cavity master/slave semiconductor lasers with two characteristic delay times, where the delay time in the coupling is different from the delay time in the coupled systems themselves. We demonstrate for the first time that parameter mismatches in photon decay rates for the master and slave lasers can explain the experimental observation that the lag time is equal to the coupling delay time.Comment: LaTex, 5 pages, submitted to PRE(R

    Inverse Anticipating Synchronization

We report a new type of chaos synchronization:inverse anticipating synchronization, where a time delay chaotic system can drive another system in such a way that the driven system anticipates the driver by synchronizing with its inverse future state. We extend the concept of inverse anticipating chaos synchronization to cascaded systems. We propose means for the experimental observation of inverse anticipating chaos synchronization in external cavity lasers.Comment: LaTex 6 pages, resubmitted to PR
