Climate Change: Why Is a Positive School Climate Imperative To Learning?

    Get PDF
Many people look back with gratitude that high school is a thing of the past, primarily due to negative social interactions among peers. The focus of this Capstone Project is on obtaining a better understanding of the social climate in high school and how this is relevant to student development. This is an important issue because a student’s feeling of belonging can be directly related to his/her academic success and overall wellbeing. Evidence supporting this claim was obtained through literature and interviews at a local high school. The three primary stakeholder perspectives analyzed were those of the principal and the two assistant principals at Ocean View High School. In addition, three action options were proposed in this Capstone Project to create a more welcoming school climate

Piezoelectric actuators for bone mechanical stimulation: exploring the concept.

    Get PDF
Arthroplasty is liable to cause intense changes on strain levels and distribution in the boné surrounding the implant, namely stress shielding. Several solutions have been proposed for this, namely design variations and development of controlled-stiffness implants. A new approach to this problem, with potential application to other orthopaedic problems and other medical fields, would be the development of smart implants integrating systems for bone mechanical stimulation. Ideally, the implant should presente sensing capability and the ability to maintain physiological levels of strain at the implant interface. Piezoelectric materials’ huge potential as a mean to produce direct mechanical stimulation lies on the possibility of producing stimuli at a high range of frequencies and in multiple combinations. The present in vitro and preliminary in vivo studies were a first step towards the validation of the concept

Examining Librarians’ Rights in the Philippine Copyright Law: The Academic Law Librarians\u27 Standpoint

    Get PDF
Academic law librarians have two primary responsibilities in the profession: to be faithful to the fundamental law of library science, and to be the frontrunners in implementing the law of the land. The Philippine copyright law tests the academic law librarians\u27 purpose in accomplishing both responsibilities. In this pandemic, when most library services are on online modality, the academic law librarians’ duty of providing information the fastest way possible may slow down due to their obligation to abide by the copyright law. To avoid this scenario and provide recommendations when this happens, the researchers of this study examines the overall perception of academic law librarians on the following: (1) the degree of which the copyright law in the country affects the librarians\u27 provision of information service in this time of online modality; (2) the copyright law’s impacts in fulfilling librarians\u27 mission of carrying out the first fundamental law of library science; and (3) the extent of support the copyright law is providing the librarians while performing their tasks. Results are gathered using a 3-part survey questionnaire that tackles the demographics, perceptions, and concerns, and suggestions of the respondents. These are analyzed using percentages, weighted mean, and Spearman’s Rank Correlation Coefficient. Salient results such as the low level of support the academic law librarians perceive they can get from the Philippine copyright law, and their conviction that the prevailing law needs additional provisions to protect librarians in providing information services while adhering to the fundamental law of librarianship, are significantly discussed in this study

Development of new-concept hydrometallurical technologies promoted by Tecnicas Reunidas is providing efficient and clean means for metals extraction from diverse primary & secondary sources, such as conventional or low-grade concentrates and ores, lead-acid batteries, domestic batteries, effluents from electronic industry, etc. Rele-vant characteristics of the recently developed processes regarding extraction of zinc, lead, silver, nickel and copper metals are the following: environmentally friendly, value added products and by-products, flexibility to a great variety of feed materials, adapted to local market requirements, easy to be combined with existing plants available for small and large capacities and on-site installation close to the metal sources

Parto Diferido em Gravidez Gemelar Bicoriônica: um Caso com 154 Dias de Latência

Premature delivery often complicates multifetal pregnancies, placing neonates at risk of serious morbidity and mortality. In select cases, preterm birth of one sibling may not require delivery of the remaining fetus(es), which may remain in utero for a delayed-interval delivery, consequently improving neonatal morbidity and mortality. Currently, there is no consensus on the best protocol for the optimal management of these cases. We report one case of delayed-interval delivery of a dichorionic pregnancy assisted in our center. In this case, prophylactic cerclage, tocolytic therapy and administration of broad-spectrum prophylactic antibiotics enabled delivery at 37 weeks, corresponding to 154 days of latency, which is, to our knowledge, the longest interval described in the literature. The attempt to defer the delivery of the second fetus in peri-viability is an option that should be offered to parents after counseling, providing that the clinical criteria of eligibility are fulfilled. The correct selection of candidates, combined with the correct performance of procedures, as well as fetal and maternal monitoring and early identification of complications increase the probability of success of this type of delivery.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
