What Pragmatism means by Public Reason

In this article I examine the main conceptions of public reason in contemporary political philosophy (Rawls, Habermas, critical theory) in order to set the frame for appreciating the novelty of the pragmatist understanding of public reason as based upon the notion of consequences and upon a theory of rationality as inquiry. The approach is inspired by Dewey but is free from any concern with history of philosophy. The aim is to propose a different understanding of the nature of public reason aimed at overcoming the limitations of the existing approaches. Public reason is presented as the proper basis for discussing contested issues in the broad frame of deep democracy

Stanley Cavell e la pretesa come paradigma di razionalità

Since Rawl’s A theory of justice, political philosophy has been haunted by the moral and epistemic problem of justification. The growing awareness of the irreducibility of human disagreement has increased a sense of uneasiness towards the ambivalence of pluralism (a requirement for the flourishing of individuals and a constant source of conflict) that, in turn, has fostered the hope that rationality, in its public use, could help us in grounding the social order on more stable basis. Although Stanley Cavell is not usually considered a significant participant in this debate, through his work he has developed an original and strong interpretation of the nature of justification and rationality. Cavell’s search for a new conception of rationality starts from an analysis of the rationality immanent to the use of ordinary language. This model of explanation, whose origins are to be found in the teaching of Wittgenstein and Austin, is then extended and articulated through an analysis of aesthetic judgment. This vantage point is successively used by Cavell in order to redefine the epistemological categories of political and moral philosophy. Cavell’s moral and political philosophy is based on an original account of practical rationality and justification built over the concepts of claim, articulation and expression. As Cavell himself has never offered a complete account of his theory of rationality, in this paper I provide a wide reconstruction of the linguistic, aesthetic and moral steps through which this theory has been developed

¿Ganancia o supervivencia? La persistencia de la informalidad laboral y el papel de los sectores empleadores en la Argentina pos 2003

Esta ponencia se enmarca en un proyecto de investigación más amplio que tiene por objetivo indagar en la relación Estado-empleadores analizando el desarrollo de las políticas públicas orientadas al mercado de trabajo a partir de 2003, en particular aquellas referidas a la registración laboral. Nuestra hipótesis de trabajo sostiene que el papel del sector empleador y su constitución histórica en el entramado de relaciones sociales, políticas y económicas incide, resiste y condiciona la puesta en marcha de políticas de intervención estatal que pretendan alterar la relación asimétrica entre capital y trabajo, volviendo a la informalidad una estrategia permanente de empleabilidad y uso de la fuerza de trabajo que pone en jaque la capacidad de intervención del Estado en la promoción de políticas de inclusión social. Para abordar nuestro objetivo nos centramos en el estudio del comportamiento del sector empleador y lo que podríamos denominar como prácticas empresariales de resistencia al registro. Colin Koopman, Pragmatism as transition. Historicity and Hope in James, Dewey, and Rorty

Informe final sobre creatividad medida por resonancia magnética despositrones y el SCAMPER

This text introduces the Based partially on the Torrance model to describe creativity and his approach to its evaluation a research oriented to evaluate creative performance and functional brain activation was run in Argentina. The study was co-leaded by a neurologist and a music educator, involving multidisciplinary teams. A tool developed and validated in a previous work (S.C.A.M.P.E.R) has been applied to assess creative performance in a group of 24 voluntary students from a university grade Music Therapy career. A functional magnetic resonance imaging paradigm, involving simple audible rhythmical stimuli and collection of subject responses to creation and repetition tasks, was designed and then implemented. Our results suggested that subjects with better performances on fluidity and flexibility assessments showed in both cerebral hemispheres active brain areas associated to cognitive, emotional and perceptual processes whereas subjects with poorer performances activated brain areas mostly related with complex sensorimotor integration, predominantly unilaterally.Para describir la creatividad así como la operación y la activación cerebral y se llevó a cabo en la R. Argentina. El estudio fue codirigido por un neurólogo y un educador musical y envolvió un equipo interdisciplinario. Una herramienta desarrollada y validada en trabajos previos ((S.C.A.M.P.E.R) ha sido aplicada para evaluar la actividad creativa de un grupo de veinticuatro estudiantes voluntarios de un grado universitario en musicoterapia. Un paradigma de resonancia funcional magnética por imágenes que abarcó los estímulos rítmicos auditivos y la recogida de las respuestas creativas de los sujetos en tareas repetitivas y creativas fue diseñado e implementado. Nuestros resultados sugieren que los sujetos con mejores performances en la evaluación de la fluidez y la flexibilidad, mostraron en ambos hemisferio cerebrales áreas activas asociadas con procesos cognitivos, emocionales y perceptivos ,mientras que los sujetos con performances más pobres activaban áreas cerebrales relacionadas sobre todo con integración sensorio-motora predominantemente unilateral
