We report neutron scattering data and DFT calculations of the stoichiometric iron-arsenide superconductor Sr2VO3FeAs. Rietveld refinements of neutron powder patterns confirm the ideal composition without oxygen deficiencies. Experiments with polarized neutrons prove weak magnetic ordering in the V-sublattice of Sr2VO3FeAs at ~ 45 K with a probable propagation vector q = (1/8,1/8,0). The ordered moment of ~ 0.1 muB is too small to remove the V-3d bands from the Fermi level by magnetic exchange splitting, and much smaller than predicted from a recent LDA+U study. By using DFT calculations with a GGA+EECE functional we recover the typical quasi-nested Fermi-surface even without magnetic moment. From this we suggest that the V-atoms are in a Mott-state where the electronic correlations are dominated by on-site Coulomb-repulsion which shifts the V-3d states away from the Fermi energy. Our results are consistent with photoemission data and clearly reveal that Sr2VO3FeAs is a typical iron-arsenide superconductor with quasi-nested hole- and electron-like Fermi surface sheets, and constitutes no new paradigm. We suggest that intrinsic electron-doping through V3+/V4+ mixed valence is responsible for the absence of SDW ordering.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

Non-stoichiometry and the magnetic structure of Sr2CrO3FeAs

The iron arsenide Sr2CrO3FeAs with the tetragonal Sr2GaO3CuS-type structure was synthesized and its crystal structure re-determined by neutron powder diffraction. In contrast to previous X-ray crystallographic studies, a mixed occupancy of chromium and iron was found within the FeAs4/4 layer (93+/-1% Fe : 7+/-1% Cr). We suggest that the partial Cr-doping at the Fe site is the reason for the absence of a spin-density wave anomaly and superconductivity in this compound. Additional experiments via neutron polarization analysis revealed short-range spin correlations below ~100 K and long-range antiferromagnetic ordering below T_N = 36 K with a magnetic propagation vector of q = (1/2, 1/2, 0). The Cr3+ ions form a collinear magnetic structure of the C-type in the magnetic space group C_Pmma' (a' = a-b, b'=a+b, c'=c), where Cr3+-ions occupy the 4g (0, 1/4, z) Wyckoff position. The magnetic moments are aligned along the orthorhombic a'-axis. At 3.5 K, an ordered magnetic moment of 2.75+/-0.05 mu_B for the Cr3+-sublattice was refined.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure

A study about the frequency of taste disorders

    Get PDF
Although 5% of the general population exhibit a functional anosmia, little is known about the frequency of gustatory disorders. Whenever taste function has been tested within large sociodemographic studies, so far only short test versions were applied making the interpretation difficult. Using two psychophysical taste tests, the validated "taste strips” and suprathreshold taste solutions of the four basic tastes sweet, sour, salty and bitter we investigated 761 healthy subjects within the age range of 5-89years. Prior to testing, all subjects rated their taste function. According to testing with the taste strips, 5.3% scored below the result considered as hypogeusia. All four taste sprays were correctly identified by 82.3% of all subjects. Results of the two taste tests correlated positively (r=0.33, p<0.001), and there was a significant negative correlation between age and test results. However, we never observed complete ageusia. Misinterpretations of tastes were surprisingly common. In summary, hypogeusia was present in 5% while complete ageusia seems to be very rare, in contrast to misinterpretations of taste

(DIPF/Orig.)In the course of societal changes, the cooperation between daycare centers and families has also gained importance. Early childhood professionals face the challenge of adapting their competencies to current developments. Against this background, pedagogical quality consultants serve as a qualification resource for daycare institutions and their staff. Drawing on a sample of 166 pedagogical quality consultants, the present study investigates pedagogical content knowledge in the competence area \u27cooperation with families\u27. Results from cluster analysis show that the pedagogical quality consultants can be divided into four different types with regard to their knowledge. Further regression analysis reveal that these types are predicted by the professional qualifications of the pedagogical quality consultants (e.g., professional development activities). The findings are discussed with regard to the implications for practice and further research needs. (DIPF/Orig.

The influence of pleasant and unpleasant odours on the acoustics of speech

Olfaction, i. e., the sense of smell is referred to as the ‘emotional sense’, as it has been shown to elicit affective responses. Yet, its influence on speech production has not been investigated. In this paper, we introduce a novel speech-based smell recognition approach, drawing from the fields of speech emotion recognition and personalised machine learning. In particular, we collected a corpus of 40 female speakers reading 2 short stories while either no scent, unpleasant odour (fish), or pleasant odour (peach) is applied through a nose clip. Further, we present a machine learning pipeline for the extraction of data representations, model training, and personalisation of the trained models. In a leave-one-speaker-out cross-validation, our best models trained on state-of-the-art wav2vec features achieve a classification rate of 68 % when distinguishing between speech produced under the influence of negative scent and no applied scent. In addition, we highlight the importance of personalisation approaches, showing that a speaker-based feature normalisation substantially improves performance across the evaluated experiments. In summary, the presented results indicate that odours have a weak, but measurable effect on the acoustics of speech

The AP-1-BATF and -BATF3 module is essential for growth, survival and TH17/ILC3 skewing of anaplastic large cell lymphoma.

Transcription factor AP-1 is constitutively activated and IRF4 drives growth and survival in ALK+ and ALK- anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). Here we demonstrate high-level BATF and BATF3 expression in ALCL. Both BATFs bind classical AP-1 motifs and interact with in ALCL deregulated AP-1 factors. Together with IRF4, they co-occupy AP-1-IRF composite elements, differentiating ALCL from non-ALCL. Gene-specific inactivation of BATFs, or global AP-1 inhibition results in ALCL growth retardation and/or cell death in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, the AP-1-BATF module establishes TH17/group 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3)-associated gene expression in ALCL cells, including marker genes such as AHR, IL17F, IL22, IL26, IL23R and RORγt. Elevated IL-17A and IL-17F levels were detected in a subset of children and adolescents with ALK+ ALCL. Furthermore, a comprehensive analysis of primary lymphoma data confirms TH17-, and in particular ILC3-skewing in ALCL compared with PTCL. Finally, pharmacological inhibition of RORC as single treatment leads to cell death in ALCL cell lines and, in combination with the ALK inhibitor crizotinib, enforces death induction in ALK+ ALCL. Our data highlight the crucial role of AP-1/BATFs in ALCL and lead to the concept that some ALCL might originate from ILC3
