Meson Decay Constants from Isospin Mass Splittings in the Quark Model
Decay constants of and mesons are estimated within the framework of a
heavy-quark approach using measured isospin mass splittings in the , ,
and states to isolate the electromagnetic hyperfine interaction between
quarks. The values MeV and MeV are
obtained. Only experimental errors are given; possible theoretical ambiguities,
and suggestions for reducing them, are noted.Comment: 7 pages, LaTeX, EFI-92-3
The Pictet-Spengler reaction updates its habits
The Pictet-Spengler reaction (P-S) is one of the most direct, efficient, and variable synthetic method for the construction of privileged pharmacophores such as tetrahydroisoquinolines (THIQs), tetrahydro-β-carbolines (THBCs), and polyheterocyclic frameworks. In the lustro (five-year period) following its centenary birthday, the P-S reaction did not exit the stage but it came up again on limelight with new features. This review focuses on the interesting results achieved in this period (2011–2015), analyzing the versatility of this reaction. Classic P-S was reported in the total synthesis of complex alkaloids, in combination with chiral catalysts as well as for the generation of libraries of compounds in medicinal chemistry. The P-S has been used also in tandem reactions, with the sequences including ring closing metathesis, isomerization, Michael addition, and Gold- or Brønsted acid-catalyzed N-acyliminium cyclization. Moreover, the combination of P-S reaction with Ugi multicomponent reaction has been exploited for the construction of highly complex polycyclic architectures in few steps and high yields. The P-S reaction has also been successfully employed in solid-phase synthesis, affording products with different structures, including peptidomimetics, synthetic heterocycles, and natural compounds. Finally, the enzymatic version of P-S has been reported for biosynthesis, biotransformations, and bioconjugations
Signals for CPT and Lorentz Violation in Neutral-Meson Oscillations
Experimental signals for indirect CPT violation in the neutral-meson systems
are studied in the context of a general CPT- and Lorentz-violating
standard-model extension. In this explicit theory, some CPT observables depend
on the meson momentum and exhibit diurnal variations. The consequences for CPT
tests vary significantly with the specific experimental scenario. The wide
range of possible effects is illustrated for two types of CPT experiment
presently underway, one involving boosted uncorrelated kaons and the other
involving unboosted correlated kaon pairs.Comment: Accepted in Physical Review D, scheduled for December 1999 issu

B-physics constraints on baryon number violating couplings: grand unification or R-parity violation
We investigate the role that baryon number violating interactions may play in
phenomenology. Present in various grand unified theories, supersymmetric
theories with R-parity violation and composite models, a diquark state could be
quite light. Using the data on B decays as well as mixing, we
find strong constraints on the couplings that such a light diquark state may
have with the Standard Model quarks.Comment: 19 pages, latex, no figures, 13 tables include
Measurement of {\eta} meson production in {\gamma}{\gamma} interactions and {\Gamma}({\eta}-->{\gamma}{\gamma}) with the KLOE detector
We present a measurement of {\eta} meson production in photon-photon
interactions produced by electron-positron beams colliding with \sqrt{s}=1 GeV.
The measurement is done with the KLOE detector at the \phi-factory DA{\Phi}NE
with an integrated luminosity of 0.24 fb^{-1}. The e^+e^- --> e^+e^-{\eta}
cross section is measured without detecting the outgoing electron and positron,
selecting the decays {\eta}-->{\pi}^+{\pi}^-{\pi}^0 and
{\eta}-->{\pi}^0{\pi}^0{\pi}^0. The most relevant background is due to e^+e^-
--> {\eta}{\gamma} when the monochromatic photon escapes detection. The cross
section for this process is measured as {\sigma}(e^+e^- -->{\eta}{\gamma}) =
(856 \pm 8_{stat} \pm 16_{syst}) pb. The combined result for the e^+e^-
-->e^+e^-{\eta} cross section is {\sigma}(e^+e^- -->e^+e^-{\eta}) = (32.72 \pm
1.27_{stat} \pm 0.70_{syst}) pb. From this we derive the partial width
{\Gamma}({\eta}-->{\gamma}{\gamma}) = (520 \pm 20_{stat} \pm 13_{syst}) eV.
This is in agreement with the world average and is the most precise measurement
to date.Comment: Version accepted by JHE
A new limit on the CP violating decay KS -> 3pi0 with the KLOE experiment
We have carried out a new direct search for the CP violating decay KS -> 3pi0
with 1.7 fb^-1 of e+e- collisions collected by the KLOE detector at the
phi-factory DAFNE. We have searched for this decay in a sample of about 5.9 x
10^8 KS KL events tagging the KS by means of the KL interaction in the
calorimeter and requiring six prompt photons. With respect to our previous
search, the analysis has been improved by increasing of a factor four the
tagged sample and by a more effective background rejection of fake KS tags and
spurious clusters. We find no candidates in data and simulated background
samples, while we expect 0.12 standard model events. Normalizing to the number
of KS -> 2pi0 events in the same sample, we set the upper limit on BR(KS ->
3pi0 < 2.6 x 10^-8 at 90% C.L., five times lower than the previous limit. We
also set the upper limit on the eta_000 parameter, |eta_000 | < 0.0088 at 90%
C.L., improving by a factor two the latest direct measurement.Comment: Accepted for publication in Physics Letters B (15 pages, 13 figures
Measurement of the K_L \to \pi\mu\nu form factor parameters with the KLOE detector
Using 328 pb^{-1}of data collected at DAFNE corresponding to 1.8
million decays, we have measured the form factor
parameters. The structure of the vector-current provides information
about the dynamics of the strong interaction; its knowledge is necessary for
evaluation of the phase-space integral required for measuring the CKM matrix
element and for testing lepton universality in kaon decays. Using a
new parametrization for the vector and scalar form factors, we find
=\pt(25.7\pm 0.6),-3, and =\pt(14.0\pm 2.1),-3,. Our
result for , together with recent lattice calculations of ,

Very light CP-odd scalar in the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model
We show that a general two-Higgs-doublet model (THDM) with a very light
CP-odd scalar (A) can be compatible with the rho parameter, Br(b --> s\gamma),
R_b, A_b, (g-2) of muon, Br(Upsilon --> A gamma), and the direct search via the
Yukawa process at LEP. For its mass around 0.2 GeV, the muon (g-2) and
Br(Upsilon --> A \gamma) data require tan(beta) to be about 1. Consequently, A
can behave like a fermiophobic CP-odd scalar and predominantly decay into a
photon pair ("gamma gamma"), which registers in detectors of high energy
collider experiments as a single photon signature when the momentum of A is
large. We compute the partial decay width of Z --> A A A and the production
rate of f \bar{f} --> Z A A --> Z +"gamma gamma", f^' {\bar f} --> W^{\pm} A A
--> W^\pm + "gamma gamma" and f \bar f --> H^+ H^- --> W^+ W^- A A --> W^+ W^-
+ "gamma gamma" at high energy colliders such as LEP, Tevatron, LHC, and future
Linear Colliders. Other production mechanisms of a light A, such as gg --> h
--> AA --> "gamma gamma", are also discussed.Comment: Some improvementes, references updated, 3 new figures, one new

Precision measurement of and determination of the contribution to the muon anomaly with the KLOE detector
We have measured the ratio
, with the KLOE detector at DANE for a total integrated
luminosity of 240 pb. From this ratio we obtain the cross section
. From the cross section we determine the
pion form factor and the two-pion contribution to the muon anomaly
for GeV, = . This result confirms the
current discrepancy between the Standard Model calculation and the experimental
measurement of the muon anomaly.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures, minor text corrections, one table added, version
