Characterization of FBK small-pitch 3D diodes after neutron irradiation up to 3.5x10**16 neq cm**-2

We report on the characterization by a position resolved laser system of small-pitch 3D diodes irradiated with neutrons up to an extremely high fluence of 3.5x10**16 neq cm**-2. We show that very high values of signal efficiency are obtained, in good agreement with the geometrical expectation based on the small values of the inter-electrode spacings, and also boosted by charge multiplication effects at high voltage. These results confirm the very high radiation tolerance of small-pitch 3D sensors well beyond the maximum fluences expected at the High Luminosity LHC.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, submitted to Proceedings of IWORID 2018 on JINS

Chapter The Place of Inspiration of the Flemish Triptych by Rogier van der Weyden. A Contribution of the landscape busting to one of the vexata quaestio of the Sicilian History

    Get PDF
One of the greatest masterpieces of Flemish art of global importance has been analyzed, through geological and geomorphological evidence, in order to identify the ‘hidden landscapes’ depicted within it. The conclusions of this study suggest that the views may be Sicilian. This fact is particularly important as it is believed that the masterpiece was imported into Sicily, but the history of its origin is not yet well known, indeed, it is still under discussion. Reasonably, therefore, in the light of the results achieved, the possibility that it has been realized on the island itself can be seen

Chemical, Mineralogical and Physical Characteristics of a Material Accumulated on the River Margin from Mud Flowing from the Collapse of the Iron Ore Tailings Dam in Bento Rodrigues, Minas Gerais, Brazil

The rupture of an itabirito mining tailings dam at the headwaters of the Doce River Basin Minas Gerais and Esp rito Santo Brazil caused the greatest environmental catastrophe of the planet Earth related to this activity The tailings were deposited both in the bottom and on the riverside terrace of the rivers causing silting and deep changes in the water quality and burial of the main agricultural areas of this basin For these areas to return to pre-disaster levels it is imperative that the material deposited on the river terraces be thoroughly characterize

Eliciting and representing a supply chain strategy

    Get PDF
Purpose. The purpose of this paper is two-fold: first, to propose a framework that can be used to represent a supply chain strategy for a business unit in a clear and actionable manner; second, to propose a method that can be used to elicit the factual as is supply chain strategy that a business unit currently has in place. Approach. A framework to represent a supply chain strategy for a business unit was developed through an inductive theory-generation approach. A method to elicit the current as is supply chain strategy of a business unit was developed through collaborative management research projects and validated by several third party projects. Findings. The proposed method and framework were used to elicit the as is supply chain strategy of business units in nine different projects, mostly conducted by third parties. In every case, the validity of the result was confirmed by the business unit. Research limitations. The proposed framework and method have limited scalability beyond a single business unit. Also, they may be less useful when the supply chain strategy is undergoing a dramatic transformation. Originality. The paper proposes a novel way to characterize the supply chain strategy of a business unit as a conceptual system. The paper also proposes an innovative approach to tap into the tacit knowledge of the organization to reveal the patterns of decisions underpinning its current supply chain strategy

A proposed set of criteria for supply chain strategy evaluation

    Get PDF
This note explores the applicability of evaluation criteria to the problem of evaluating the supply chain strategy of an organization. A discussion of supply chain strategy evaluation is relevant today, as the validity of the dominant approach – proposed two decades ago and based on matching types – has come into question. While evaluation criteria have a long history in other disciplines, they are new to supply chain strategy evaluation. To help supply chain scholars assess the applicability of evaluation criteria to supply chain strategy, this note proposes a tentative set of criteria and provides insights derived from the authors’ recent experience with their use in two projects. We propose that the use of criteria for the evaluation of supply chain strategy may be a useful alternative, or at least a complement, to the dominant approach. We invite the empirical validation of these proposed criteria by third parties

Collision avoidance maneuver design based on multi-objective optimization

    Get PDF
The possibility of having collision between a satellite and a space debris or another satellite is becoming frequent. The amount of propellant is directly related to a satellite’s operational lifetime and revenue. Thus, collision avoidance maneuvers should be performed in the most efficient and effective manner possible. In this work the problem is formulated as a multi-objective optimization. The first objective is the Δv, whereas the second and third one are the collision probability and relative distance between the satellite and the threatening object in a given time window after the maneuver. This is to take into account that multiple conjunctions might occur in the short-term. This is particularly true for the GEO regime, where close conjunction between a pair of object can occur approximately every 12h for a few days. Thus, a CAM can in principle reduce the collision probability for one event, but significantly increase it for others. Another objective function is then added to manage mission constraint. To evaluate the objective function, the TLE are propagated with SGP4/SDP4 to the current time of the maneuver, then the Δv is applied. This allow to compute the corresponding “modified” TLE after the maneuver and identify (in a given time window after the CAM) all the relative minima of the squared distance between the spacecraft and the approaching object, by solving a global optimization problem rigorously by means of the verified global optimizer COSY-GO. Finally the collision probability for the sieved encounters can be computed. A Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimizer is used to compute the set of Pareto optimal solutions. The method has been applied to two test cases, one that considers a conjunction in GEO and another in LEO. Results show that, in particular for the GEO case, considering all the possible conjunctions after one week of the execution of a CAM can prevent the occurrence of new close encounters in the short-term
