    Chiral recognition by the copper(II) complex of 6-deoxy-6-N-(2-methylaminopyridine)-?-cyclodextrin

    A modified ÎČ-cyclodextrin bearing a 2-aminomethylpyridine binding site for copper(II) (6-deoxy-6-[N-(2-methylamino)pyridine)]-ÎČ-cyclodextrin, CDampy was synthesized by C6-monofunctionalization. The acid-base properties of the new ligand in aqueous solution were investigated by potentiometry and calorimetry, and its conformations as a function of pH were studied by NMR and circular dichroism (c.d.). The formation of binary copper(II) complexes was studied by potentiometry, EPR, and c.d. The copper(II) complex was used as chiral selector for the HPLC enantiomeric separation of underivatized aromatic amino acids. Enantioselectivity in the overall stability constants of the ternary complexes with D- or L-Trp was detected by potentiometry, whereas the complexes of the Ala enantiomers did not show any difference in stability. These results were consistent with a preferred cis coordination of the amino group of the ligand and of the amino acid in the ternary complexes (“cis effect”), which leads to the inclusion of the aromatic side chain of D-Trp, but not of that of L-Trp. In Trp-containing ternary complexes, the two enantiomers showed differences in the fluorescence lifetime distribution, consistent with only one conformer of D-Trp and two conformers of L-Trp, and the latter were found to be more accessible to fluorescence quenching by acrylamide and KI

    Herein we report the solventless synthesis and doping of the benchmark HKUST-1(Cu) as a facile route to afford heterometallic metal?organic frameworks (MOFs) having proficient behavior as electrocatalytic materials in the reduction of carbon dioxide. Zn(II), Ru(III) and Pd(II) were selected as doping metals (MD) with the aim of partially replacing the Cu(II) atoms of the pristine structure to afford HKUST-1(Cu,MD) type materials. Apart from the high yield and good crystallinity of the obtained materials, the extremely high reagent concentration that the reaction conditions imply makes it feasible to control dopant loading in all cases. Prepared samples were processed as electrodes and assembled in a continuous flow filter-press electrochemical cell. Faraday efficiency to methanol and ethanol at Ru(III)-based electrodes resulted in activity as high as 47.2%, although the activity of the material decayed with time.     The Italian nephrology has a long tradition and experience in the field of dietetic-nutritional therapy (DNT), which is an important component in the conservative management of the patient suffering from a chronic kidney disease, which precedes and integrates the pharmacological therapies. The objectives of DNT include the maintenance of an optimal nutritional status, the prevention and / or correction of signs, symptoms and complications of chronic renal failure and, possibly, the delay in starting of dialysis. The DNT includes modulation of protein intake, adequacy of caloric intake, control of sodium and potassium intake, and reduction of phosphorus intake. For all dietary-nutritional therapies, and in particular those aimed at the patient with chronic renal failure, the problem of patient adherence to the dietetic-nutritional scheme is a key element for the success and safety of the DNT and it can be favored by an interdisciplinary and multi-professional approach of information, education, dietary prescription and follow-up. This consensus document, which defines twenty (20) essential points of the nutritional approach to patients with advanced chronic renal failure, has been written, discussed and shared by the Italian nephrologists together with representatives of dietitians (ANDID) and patients (ANED)
