TFF (v.4.1): A Mathematica Notebook for the Calculation of One- and Two-Neutron Stripping and Pick-Up Nuclear Reactions

    Get PDF
The program TFF calculates stripping single-particle form factors for one-neutron transfer in prior representation with appropriate perturbative treatment of recoil. Coupled equations are then integrated along a semiclassical trajectory to obtain one- and two-neutron transfer amplitudes and probabilities within first- and second-order perturbation theory. Total and differential cross-sections are then calculated by folding with a transmission function (obtained from a phenomenological imaginary absorption potential). The program description, user instructions and examples are discussed

The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences

A lumped stress method for plane elastic problemsand the discrete-continuum approximation

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a rational method to approximate a plane elastic body through a latticed structure composed of truss elements. The method is based on the introduction of a relaxed stress energy that allows an extension of the original problem to a larger space of admissible stress fields, including stresses concentrated along lines. Use is made of polyhedral approximations of the Airy stress function. The truss analogy is employed to obtain a displacement formulation. The paper includes several numerical applications of the method to sample problems, a numerical convergence study and comparisons with exact solutions and standard finite element approximations

Number of spanning clusters at the high-dimensional percolation thresholds

A scaling theory is used to derive the dependence of the average number of spanning clusters at threshold on the lattice size L. This number should become independent of L for dimensions d<6, and vary as log L at d=6. The predictions for d>6 depend on the boundary conditions, and the results there may vary between L^{d-6} and L^0. While simulations in six dimensions are consistent with this prediction (after including corrections of order loglog L), in five dimensions the average number of spanning clusters still increases as log L even up to L = 201. However, the histogram P(k) of the spanning cluster multiplicity does scale as a function of kX(L), with X(L)=1+const/L, indicating that for sufficiently large L the average will approach a finite value: a fit of the 5D multiplicity data with a constant plus a simple linear correction to scaling reproduces the data very well. Numerical simulations for d>6 and for d=4 are also presented.Comment: 8 pages, 11 figures. Final version to appear on Physical Review

Study of durability, elastic modulus, split tensile strength and unconfined axial compression strength of a sandy soil stabilized with lime and fly ash, and also, with the cement addition and replacing part of sand with crushed stone. The selected soil was a coastal dune sand, cohesionless and with uniform gradation, in order to enhance the cementitious pozzolanic action of lime plus fly ash when mixed with water. Three mixtures with different proportions wers studied. The first mix had 83% dune sand, 13% fly ash and 4% lime. The second mixture had the same contents of lime, fly ash and dune sand, but having 1% of high initial strength portland cement as additive. The third mixture had 53% dune sand, 30% crushed stone, 4% lime,13% fly ash and 1% of high initial strength portland cement as additive. All mixes were studied at optimum moisture content only. Specimens were molded in cylinders 10 cm diameter and 20 cm height split longitudinally into three parts. Curing ages adopted were: 7, 14, 22, 28, 30, 38 and 90 days. Tests performed were the following: unconfined compressive strength, split tensile strength, durability according to ABCP ("Associação Brasileira de Cimento Portland") method, Iowa method, and the Author's method, and elastic moduli determinations by static and dynamic methods. Unconfined compressive strength reached values up to 137 kgf/cm2 and tensile strength obtained through diametrical compression (split tensile strength) 22 kgf/cm2. Static elastic modulus attained values up to 150,000 kgf/cm2 and the dynamic modulus 178,000 kgf/cm2. Durability testing have shown that adding cement and replacing sand by crushed stone together with the addition of cement improved the quality of mixtures studied. Laboratory research have shown that the mixes studied present good enough characteristics so that they could be aplied in the construction of base and sub-base courses of pavements. However special provisions, probably, should be considered during construction.

The University of Salerno (Italy) has recently been equipped with a pair of aerials that are able to receive data transmitted from various satellite platforms such as the NOAA and the Terra-1 and Aqua-1 EOS. These satellites are fitted with sensors that pick up information regarding soil and cloud temperature, the humidity level of the atmosphere, the presence of extraneous water, the presence of certain substances such as chlorophyll, the surface colour of the ocean and the presence of plankton with a spatial resolution that at its greatest reaches 250 m. Great use is therefore made of a vast amount of data that concerns our geographical area which allows for a fairly approximate assessment of the state of health (desertification, deforestation, abundance of surface water) and the potential risks (landslides, fires, plant and crop infections or diseases) to which the territory is prone. Nevertheless, the data is supplied with differing precision to the ground and with different pixel dimensions, therefore it is not possible to generate, taking as a starting point the data alone, (thematic map) which, besides furnishing qualitative information, also supplies correct and precise metric information. By using the Data Fusion technique it is possible to project the data supplied by various sensors onto a higher resolution image in order to obtain a representation that allows for a synthesis of all available information

Importance of the single-particle continuum in BCS pairing with a pseudostate basis

In a recent work [arXiv:1510.03185] the use of the Transformed Harmonic Oscillator (THO) basis for the discretization of the singleparticle continuum into a Generalized Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) formalism was proposed for the description of weakly bound nuclei. We make use of the flexibility of this formalism to study the evolution of the pairing when the nucleus becomes more and more weakly bound. Specifically we focus on the evolution of the occupation of the different partial waves in 22O when the Fermi level approaches zer

Continuum discretised BCS approach for weakly bound nuclei

    Get PDF
The Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) formalism is extended by including the single-particle continuum in order to analyse the evolution of pairing in an isotopic chain from stability up to the drip line. We propose a continuum discret ized generalized BCS based on single-particle pseudostates (PS). These PS are generated from the diagonalization of the single-particle Hamiltonian within a Transformed Harmonic Oscillator (THO) basis. The consistency of the results versus the size of the basis is studied. The method is applied to neutron rich Oxygen and Carbon is otopes and compared with similar previous works and available experimental data. We make use of the flexibility of the proposed model in order to study the evolution of the occupation of the low-energy continuum when the system becomes weakly bound. We find a larger influence of the non-resonant continuum as long as the Fermi level approaches zero.España, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad FIS2014-53448-C2-1-PJunta de Andalucía FQM-160Junta de Andalucía P11-FQM-7632Programa Consolider-Ingenio CSD2007- 00042Comisión Europea 60037
