Sanitser, an innovative sanitary ware body, formulated with waste glass and recycled materials
Abstract In the present paper, the results of "Sanitser" Life European project are presented. The aim of this study was to reduce the firing temperature for ceramic body (from 1250 to 1170 °C). This was achieved substituting feldspar and quartz with recycled blend materials and a little percentage of flux (less than 3%); in a sanitary ware vitreous china formulation a waste glass, granitic materials and fired broken ceramic pieces were introduced. Tests performed on the Sanitser formulation showed that it has the same final physical-chemical characteristics of the industrial vitreous china (VC) body. Besides, different ceramic pieces (wash basin, bidet and WC pan) were compared with VC production. The results showed that Sanitser body can replace vitreous china in the sanitary ware production. In this project, the firing temperature of the ceramic body is reduced significantly with a supposed decrease of the CO2 emissions. In Sanitser formulation, about 43.6% of recycled materials that would end in dumps were utilized
Priming dilemmas’prisioners: an enquiry into agents’ minds
This work tries to understand how an exposure to economic logic and the current definition of rationality influences behavior. I usea randomized scrambled-sentencetestthat primes different groups either with economic or moral oriented key-words;then follows a set of ethicalgames, mainlyvariations of the Prisoner’s dilemma. In both an experimental setting (117economics/business graduates) and online survey (113 subjects), I do not findevidence that this short-term, conceptual priminghas an impact on agents’ decisions regarding this sort of dilemmas. This might be due to the ineffectiveness of the priming, or due to its subtle nature that only bigger datasets can uncover. However, it is found evidencein the online surveycorroborating the literature stance that having had an economics background alters behaviortowards defection. The evidence also highlights a particularly robust find in the literature: cooperation rates are far higher than expected by the self-interest model. These findings then open a more in depth discussion about thevery concept of rationality and theepistemological pathwithin economics
Effects of sintering temperature on microstructure and properties of sanitaryware ceramic produced with waste material
Abstract This paper aims at exploring the possibility of using a great percentage of recycled materials into vitreous china (VC), thus, contributing to urban waste decrease while lowering the industry's buying costs, previously optimized, for the sanitaryware production. The recycled blend was introduced in the ceramic slip, Sanitser VC, and used in three sanitaryware production plants. This slip let to improve the environmental performances of the overall ceramic production through energy-saving and a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, the firing temperature is 80-100 °C lower than traditional production. Therefore, the objective of this paper was to evaluate the firing behavior, technological properties, and microstructure of a typical industrial vitreous china body in comparison with Sanitser VC. The analytical results confirmed the force of this idea and highlighted the advantages of the choice made
avaliação do Comportamento Pró-ambiental.
pró-ambiental.Climate Change is considered, in the present days, as one of the biggest
emergencies the planet Earth have been facing. The feeling of urgency towards this topic
was the trigger to the present study while trying to promote a better understanding of
the individual motivation connected with their pro-environmental behavior and possibly
to a better understanding of specific intervention methods in Psychology field.
Considering the stated, the present work focused on observing the relation
between two variables of the motivational field, self-determination and future time
perspective as predictors of the pro-environmental behavior, where the main goal was to
observe positive correlations between self-determination variables and future time
perspective with variables from pro-environmental behavior.
To do so, a protocol for an online collection of the data was made. The collection
occurred between January and April of 2020 and the protocol consisted of three
instruments: Scale for Self-determination, Inventory of Future Time Perspective and a
scale for the evaluation of pro-environmental behavior.
In the end, together with the results observed in previous investigations and the
correlations observed in the main variables, we were able to recognize a positive
correlation between self-determination and pro-environmental behavior. On the other
hand, it was not observed in our results a positive correlation between future time
perspective and pro-environmental behavior
Tameness of holomorphic closure dimension in a semialgebraic set
Given a semianalytic set S in a complex space and a point p in S, there is a
unique smallest complex-analytic germ at p which contains the germ of S, called
the holomorphic closure of S at p. We show that if S is semialgebraic then its
holomorphic closure is a Nash germ, for every p, and S admits a semialgebraic
filtration by the holomorphic closure dimension. As a consequence, every
semialgebraic subset of a complex vector space admits a semialgebraic
stratification into CR manifolds satisfying a strong version of the condition
of the frontier.Comment: Published versio
