Uma outra realidade: tecnologias de informação e comunicação nas escolas do 3.º ciclo em Timor-Leste

Se é verdade que a nível mundial cada vez mais caminhamos para uma sociedade da informação, pela possibilidade de utilização de tecnologias e métodos para comunicar nascidas por meio da evolução e revolução informática, mais premente o é em Timor-Leste, país novo e em franco desenvolvimento.implementação de um currículo do ensino básico ajustado ao contexto social e cultural dopaís e que incorpore as tendências educacionais internacionais, respondendo aos desafios da actualidade, tem merecido um cuidado particular em Timor. Neste contexto foi realizado um estudo prévio que pretendeu obter um conjunto de indicadores relativos a três grandes áreas: recursos tecnológicos disponíveis em casa, na escola e a nível pessoal, hábitos relativos ao uso de computador e hábitos relativos ao uso de telemóvel. O estudo teve por base um inquérito, de título “tecnologias de informação e comunicação". recolha da informação contou com o apoio dos professores das escolas seleccionadas e foi realizada durante o mês de Março de 2013. Apesar do atraso que existe em termos de serviços e das infra-estruturas de apoio se mostrarem por ora insuficientes em Timor-Leste, no início do século XXI, o "Ensino e Divulgação das Ciências no Mundo Digital" torna-se premente neste país. Mind the gaps: from formal to informal education - from university to society

Education is an inalienable right of human beings and a fundamental requirement for individuals to have access to goods and services available in society. A formal education hierarchically structured with a chronologically graded ‘education system’, run from primary school through the university. In turn, informal education is a truly lifelong process and enables individuals to acquire attitudes, values, skills and knowledge from daily experience. This work shows how a group of university students enrolled in the graduation program of Biology and Geology at University of Minho, Braga, Portugal, can learn some biochemical subjects by creating 3D pieces. These are both relevant for students´ learning of the particular scientific topic under study but also for promoting and disseminating some informal knowledge about the same topic to different public. In fact, the created objects were exhibited in a public library during 15 days, on behalf of the celebration of The World Water Day, promoted yearly by the United Nations on the 22nd of March. Simultaneously, a set of hands-on activities designed for children between 6 and 10 years old and having as theme “Water – Value the Drop!” was promoted during a Saturday morning of the same week, in collaboration with an association of the undergraduate students enrolled in the degree of Applied Biology, at the same University.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Searching for chemical elements: a multidisciplinary activity in the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements

[Excerpt] 2019 is the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements and has therefore been proclaimed the "International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019)" by the United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO [1]. A working tool very useful to various professionals and in diverse scientific areas, this table would not exist if someone had not distributed and ordered the chemical elements according to the value of their atomic weights. The father of the Periodic Table, the Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev (1834-1907), was so visionary that his Table allows housing not only the known chemical elements at that time but also the ones still unknown that came to be discovered or synthesized. When we come across this Table, with so many chemical elements, we ask ourselves how we use them and where we can find each of them, in our real world

O estágio pedagógico de matemática da Universidade do Minho na perspectiva dos seus intervenientes da escola

No presente artigo estuda-se o Estágio Pedagógico de Matemática da Universidade do Minho, considerando (1) o processo de supervisão, do ponto de vista dos orientadores das escolas; (2) as práticas pedagógicas dos estagiários, do ponto de vista dos orientadores das escolas e dos alunos; (3) as actividades extra-curriculares e as relações interpessoais desenvolvidas nos núcleos de estágio, do ponto de vista dos orientadores das escolas e dos coordenadores da Secção de Matemática; e (4) as alterações ao estágio pedagógico, do ponto de vista dos orientadores das escolas e dos coordenadores da Secção de Matemática. Os dados do estudo foram recolhidos através de três questionários, um passado aos orientadores de Matemática das escolas, outro aos alunos de turmas em que os estagiários tinham leccionado e o terceiro aos coordenadores das Secções de Matemática das escolas respectivas. Em termos de formato, os questionários incluíam itens fechados (com escalas tipo Likert) e alguns itens abertos. Em termos de resultados, em geral, salienta-se uma opinião favorável da maioria ou da grande maioria dos participantes acerca das três primeiras dimensões do estágio pedagógico que foram estudadas. De entre essas dimensões, observou-se uma opinião mais favorável na dimensão “actividades extra-curriculares e relações interpessoais desenvolvidas pelo núcleo de estágio”. No caso das alterações ao estágio pedagógico, verificaram-se, em geral, opiniões negativas, que se agravam com as alterações introduzidas pelo processo de Bolonha.In this paper we study the Pre-Service Teacher Training of Mathematics, in the University of Minho, considering (1) the supervisory process, in terms of the school mentors; (2) the teaching practices of the trainees, in terms both of school mentors and students; (3) the extra-curricular activities and interpersonal relationships developed by the trainees groups, in terms both of schools mentors and coordinators of the Mathematics Section, as well as and (4) the changes to the pre-service teaching practice, in terms both of school mentors and coordinators of the Mathematics Section. Data were collected through three questionnaires, one near the mentors of mathematics in schools, another near the students from the classes in which the trainees were taught and the third one near the coordinators of the Mathematics sections. In terms of format, the questionnaire included closed items (with Likert scales) and some open items. In terms of results, in general it should be a favorable opinion of the majority or the vast majority of participants on the first three dimensions of pre-service teaching practice that have been studied. Among these dimensions, there was a more positive opinion concerning the "extra-curricular activities and interpersonal relationships developed by the core stage." dimension. In what concerns the changes to the teaching practice, there are generally negative opinions, which made worse by the changes introduced by the Bologna process

Do ponto ao espaço: contributo do croché para a matemática do planeta Terra

O projeto "Ponto a Ponto enche a Ciência o Espaço" assenta numa iniciativa intergeracional colaborativa e evidencia a relação entre a Biologia e a Matemática no âmbito da geometria hiperbólica. As atividades desenvolvidas têm por base uma Instalação em croché que recria um recife em coral e procuram proporcionar aos seus participantes ambientes interdisciplinares de ensino e aprendizagem ricos na diversidade, estimulantes e desafiantes, que lhes permitam desenvolver a sua capacidade para explorar, conjeturar e raciocinar logicamente. Complementary eigenvalue problem in systems with frictional contact: the stiffness matrix for the contact nodes between different materials

This work addresses a numerical study of static equilibrium states of finite dimensional systems with frictional contact and its application to the particular problem of friction between two geological layers with different viscosity. Preparar já o futuro, concebendo/idealizando uma cidade sustentável, foi o objetivo primeiro de um projeto a que se deu o nome FOCUS. Pautado pelos objetivos da Agenda 2030, o projeto FOCUS permitiu desenvolver, em espaços diversos, atividades lúdico-educativas, promovendo experiências, aprendizagem, interatividade e a reflexão crítica da realidade. Posto em prática em ambientes extraescolares, o programa do projeto possibilitou a promoção da educação para a vida, tanto individual, como coletiva. Balance between viscous and elastic parameters for ductile materials flow under an overdamped regime

The evolution of less ductile layers embedded in a more ductile matrix under simple progressive shear in some geological structures, such as folding and asymmetric boudinage in the same direction, is a current trend in structural geology research. Aiming to study this subject, in this work a finite element method (FEM) is used to discretize a continuous medium as a point-mass model in which every node is subject to elastic and viscous forces. The dynamic equation of the present system takes into account both kinds of those forces driving the motion of each particle. In the herein developed model the system is subject to external shear forces applied to some nodes, resulting in a continuous flow of material.
