On the use of fuzzy logic in dependable cloud management
The effective and efficient use of dependable cloud infrastructures requires the agreement between users and cloud providers on resources, services, operating conditions, and features as well as the mapping of users' requirements onto the cloud architecture. In this paper, we identify the different ways in which fuzzy logic can be profitably adopted in performing these tasks, providing flexibility in capturing users' needs and dealing with complex architectures and conflicting or hardly-satisfiable requirements. We specifically put forward the idea of using fuzzy logic at the user-side, to enable the specification of users' needs in crisp or fuzzy ways and their homogenous processing
Chlorophyll a fluorescence as an indicator of water stress in Calophyllum brasiliense
The objective of this study was to evaluate chlorophyll a fluorescence as a stress indicator in Calophyllum brasiliense Cambess seedlings grown with different concentrations of abscisic acid (ABA) under intermittent water deficit condition: daily irrigation without ABA (I); daily irrigation + 10 ÎŒM ABA (I 10); daily irrigation + 100 ÎŒM ABA (I 100); suspension of daily irrigation without ABA (SI); suspension of daily irrigation + 10 ÎŒM ABA (SI 10) and suspension of daily irrigation + 100 ÎŒM ABA (SI 100). The intermittent water deficit reduces water status and impairs the photochemical apparatus functioning and seedling quality. The fluorescence measurements helped identify the stress condition of water deficit in the cultivation of C. brasiliense and the beneficial effect of the application of 10 ÎŒM of ABA in minimizing stress and facilitating the recovery of seedlings after re-irrigation, while maintaining the integrity and function of the photosynthetic apparatus
Bionics-based surgical training using 3D printed photopolymers and smart devices
Additive manufacturing technologies support the realization of surgical training devices using, typically, photopolymers-based materials. Unfortunately, the material jetting family, able to print a large range of soft and hard polymers, requires expensive machines and materials, which are not always available. On the other hand, vat polymerization fails in the resolution/volume ratio and in the mechanical properties reconstruction. Stereolithographic 3D printers, mostly used in dental surgery, make possible to realize cheap and sustainable models for training activity using only one material, reducing the possibility to obtain different mechanical characteristics. Moreover, the printed objects have to be treated (i.e. curing post-processing) in order to obtain the required performances, that could be preserved for long term storing. The aim of the proposed approach is to assure the surgeons' skills improvement through bionic-based surgical 3D printed models and smart devices, able to reproduce the same perception of a real surgical activity. We demonstrated how it is possible develop smart devices capable to take into account the same characteristics of different materials (i.e. bone and spongy bone) even if stored for a long time
A holographic system for subsea recording and analysis of plankton and other marine particles
We report here details of the design, development, initial testing and field-deployment of the HOLOMAR system for in-situ subsea holography and analysis of marine plankton and nonliving particles. HOLOMAR comprises a submersible holographic camera ("HoloCam") able to record in-line and off-axis holograms at depths down to 100 m, together with specialised reconstruction hardware ("HoloScan") linked to custom image processing and classification software. The HoloCam consists of a laser and power supply, holographic recording optics and holographic plate holders, a water-tight housing and a support frame. It utilises two basic holographic geometries, in-line and off-axis such that a wide range of species, sizes and concentrations can be recorded. After holograms have been recorded and processed they are reconstructed in full three-dimensional detail in air in a dedicated replay facility. A computer-controlled microscope, using video cameras to record the image at a given depth, is used to digitise the scene. Specially written software extracts a binarised image of an object in its true focal plane and is classified using a neural network. The HoloCam was deployed on two separate cruises in a Scottish sea loch (Loch Etive) to a depth of 100 m and over 300 holograms were recorded
Rare jaw bone tumor: The importance of multidisciplinary management and minimally invasive treatment
Objective: The aim of this study was to present a mini review of oral Cementoblastoma and to report a particular case of this tumor. The Cementoblastoma is a rare benign lesion that represents less than 1-6% of all odontogenic tumors. Cementoblastoma, in the current WHO classification of odontogenic tumors, falls under the category of mesenchymal tumors (WHO 2017) and it is characterized by the proliferation of cementum-like tissue and, in all cases, tends to be associated with an erupting permanent tooth, most often the first molar.
Case Presentation: A 15-year-old female presented a great Cementoblastoma with cortical expansion that affected the left mandibular body, extending from the canine to the first premolar (size 28x24 mm) and involving the mandibular canal. Surgery was performed under general anesthesia with total excision of the lesion, which was then sent for histological analysis. Due to the high risk of nerve injuries and the extreme fragility of the remaining bone after surgery, which required plates and intermaxillary blockage, the surgical site was regenerated with an iliac crest graft together with autologous and synthetic bone.
Results: For the mini-review, 107 articles were found, but only 26 were selected. The patient was monitored for 12 months after surgery; a perfect healing was reported without complications, and she showed no signs of
recurrence.
Conclusions: This case report emphasizes the usefulness of clinical choices in a rare case of cementoblastoma of great size in a very young patient. In this condition, finding the most effective eradicative and reconstructive treatment, following the last published protocols, could achieve optimal clinical and psychological patient outcomes

High-resolution in situ holographic recording and analysis of marine organisms and particles (HOLOMAR)
We report on the development of a fully- unctioning, prototype, underwater holographic camera (holo-camera) for holographic recording of large-volumes of sea water containing marine plankton and seston within the upper water column The overriding benefit of holographic imaging over other measurement techniques is that it allows non-intrusive and non-destructive, in-situ, recording of living organisms and inanimate particles in their natural environment.
Because of the inherently high resolution of holography, its threedimensional imaging properties and the ability to perform "optical sectioning" on the image, it allows identification of particular organisms together with the extraction of sue and relative positional information This information, in turn, affords the ability to gain knowledge of the behaviour of marine biological communities, their relationship with each other and with the particles with which they interact
Cytogenetic analysis of three sea catfish species (Teleostei, Siluriformes, Ariidae) with the first report of Ag-NOR in this fish family
Despite their ecological and economical importance, fishes of the family Ariidae are still genetically and cytogenetically poorly studied. Among the 133 known species of ariids, only eight have been karyotyped. Cytogenetic analyses performed on Genidens barbus and Sciades herzbergii revealed that both species have 2n = 56 chromosomes and Cathorops aff. mapale has 2n = 52 chromosomes: Genidens barbus has 10 Metacentrics (M), 14 Submetacentrics (SM), 26 Subtelocentrics (ST), and 6 Acrocentrics (A), Sciades herzbergii has 14M, 20SM, 18ST and 4A, whereas Cathorops aff. mapale has 14M, 20SM, and 18ST. The nucleolus organizer regions (NORs) were found in a single chromosome pair on the short arm of a large-sized ST pair in Genidens barbus and on the short arm of a middle-size SM pair in Cathorops aff. mapale. Multiple NORs on the short arms of two large-sized ST pairs were found in Sciades herzbergii. The occurrence of diploid numbers ranging from 2n = 52 through 56 chromosomes and the presence of different karyotypic compositions, besides the number and position of NORs suggest that several numeric and structural chromosome rearrangements were fixed during the evolutionary history of this fish family
Morphological and molecular characterization of Hysterothylacium spp. parasitizing Pomatomus saltatrix and Pagrus pagrus of the State of SĂŁo Paulo, Brazil
Raphidascarid nematodes have been the focus of several studies, mainly due to the zoonotic potential of some species, even though the cases are underreported. Due to the difficulty in identifying their larvae, the use of diagnostic techniques involving morphological and molecular analyses has grown in the last 20 years. The present study had as objective the morphological and molecular characterization of the L3 larval types of Hysterothylacium collected in Pomatomus saltatrix and Pagrus pagrus from the Brazilian coast, close to the municipality of Santos, State of São Paulo. Twenty specimens of P. saltatrix were necropsied and Hysterothylacium type V (n = 257) and Hysterothylacium type X (n = 5) larvae were found. Five specimens of P. pagrus were necropsied and all were parasitized by Hysterothylacium type V larvae. The analyses showed a genetic proximity relationship between Hysterothylacium types V with other Hysterothylacium V and with H. deardorffoverstreetorum, although this is a species inquirenda. Haplotypes for Hysterothylacium type X found in the present study formed a monophyletic group with other Hysterothylacium X, H. amoyense, and H. zhoushanense.
