Study soil analysis in Alamo, Temapache and Veracruz, to generate doses of fertilization in orange

The aim of this paper is to create equations that predict the skinfold measures for school children 6 to 13 years old. Fourteen resulting equations were derived to estimate some measures of skinfold. The equations were validated with random samples of 479 girls and 541 boys in the state of Puebla and 2 other random samples of the state of Veracruz with 155 girls and 146 boys respectively; direct measurements were performed with the methodology and units ISAK (International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometr

Effect of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. Dried Calyx Ethanol Extract on Fat Absorption-Excretion, and Body Weight Implication in Rats

The effect of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (Hs) calyx extract on fat absorption-excretion and body weight in rats, was investigated. Rats were fed with either a basal diet (SDC = Control diet) or the same diet supplemented with Hs extracts at 5%, 10% and 15% (SD5, SD10 and SD15). Only SD5 did not show significant increases in weight, food consumption and efficiency compared to SDC. The opposite occurred in SD15 group which showed a significant decrease for these three parameters. The SD10 responses were similar to SD15, with the exception of food consumption. In both SDC and SD5 groups, no body weight loss was observed; however, only in the latter group was there a significantly greater amount of fatty acids found in feces. A collateral effect emerging from the study is that components of Hs extract at the intermediate and greater concentrations used in this experiment could be considered possible antiobesity agents

Effectiveness of Tronador to Control Brittlebush in Buffelgrass Pastures at Central Sonora, México

Buffelgrass (Cenchrus ciliaris L.) is an introduced species which is planted in low productive semi-arid rangelands in northern Mexico to increase productivity and ranchers profit. Brittlebush (Encelia farinosa) is a native half size shrub of low forage value that invades buffelgrass stands. Buffelgrass pastures lose productivity as brittlebush densities increase. Once brittlebush infestations occur plant densities do not decline unless brush control practices are applied. Mechanical treatments are mainly used when grass seeding is needed. Prescribed burning and manual control as well as granular herbicides have resulted on good plant control. Most liquid herbicides are either not as effective for plant control or not economically feasibles. Tronador is a new released herbicide but no data is available for its use. This study was conducted to evaluate several doses of Tronador to control brittlebush infestations and measure buffelgrass forage responses

Cognitive and brain cytokine profile of non-demented individuals with cerebral amyloid-beta deposition

Brain inflammation has been increasingly associated with early amyloid accumulation in Alzheimer's disease models; however, evidence of its occurrence in humans remains scarce. To elucidate whether amyloid deposition is associated with neuroinflammation and cognitive deficits, we studied brain inflammatory cytokine expression and cognitive decline in non-demented elderly individuals with and without cerebral amyloid-beta deposition. Global cognition, episodic, working, and semantic memory, perceptual speed, visuospatial ability, and longitudinal decline (5.7 ± 3.6 years) in each cognitive domain were compared between elderly individuals (66-79 years) with and without cerebral amyloid-beta deposition. The expression of 20 inflammatory cytokines was analyzed in frozen temporal, parietal, and frontal cortices and compared between older individuals with and without amyloid-beta deposition in each brain region. Correlation analyses were performed to analyze associations between amyloid-beta load, cytokine expression, and cognitive decline. Individuals with cortical amyloid-beta deposition displayed deficits and a faster rate of cognitive decline in perceptual speed as compared with those individuals without amyloid-beta. This decline was positively associated with cortical amyloid-beta levels. Elderly individuals with amyloid-beta deposition had higher levels of IL-1β, IL-6, and eotaxin-3 in the temporal cortex accompanied by an increase in MCP-1 and IL-1β in the parietal cortex and a trend towards higher levels of IL-1β and MCP-1 in the frontal cortex as compared with age-matched amyloid-free individuals. Brain IL-1β levels displayed a positive association with cortical amyloid burden in each brain region. Finally, differential cytokine expression in each cortical region was associated with cognitive decline. Elderly individuals with amyloid-beta neuropathology but no symptomatic manifestation of dementia, exhibit cognitive decline and increased brain cytokine expression. Such observations suggest that increased cytokine expression might be an early event in the Alzheimer's continuum.
