Observation of a resonant four-body interaction in cold cesium Rydberg atoms
Cold Rydberg atoms subject to long-range dipole-dipole interactions represent
a particularly interesting system for exploring few-body interactions and
probing the transition from 2-body physics to the many-body regime. In this
work we report the direct observation of a resonant 4-body Rydberg interaction.
We exploit the occurrence of an accidental quasi-coincidence of a 2-body and a
4-body resonant Stark-tuned Forster process in cesium to observe a resonant
energy transfer requiring the simultaneous interaction of at least four
neighboring atoms. These results are relevant for the implementation of quantum
gates with Rydberg atoms and for further studies of many-body physics.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Micropropagation of Glandularia, native genus with ornamental potencial
En este trabajo se estableció un protocolo
de propagación in vitro de tres especies
nativas del género Glandularia: G. peruviana,
G. sp. y G. laciniata. Para el establecimiento in
vitro se evaluó el medio de Murashige Skoog
(MS) con macro y micronutrientes diluidos a
la mitad adicionado con 0,05 μM de bencilaminopurina
(BAP) sola o en combinación con
0,1 μM thiadiazuron (TDZ) y un testigo sin
reguladores del crecimiento. En la etapa de
multiplicación se evaluó el medio de cultivo
MS diluido a la ½ ó ¼ y adicionado de 20 ó
40 gr.L-1 de sacarosa. Es posible establecer y
micropropagar estas especies en medios de
cultivo sencillos. El medio más eficiente para
el establecimiento fue aquel sin reguladores,
mientras que el más adecuado para la multiplicación
fue MS ½ adicionado de 20 gr.L-1 de
sacarosa, en el cual la tasa de multiplicación
cada 30 días fue de 6 en G. sp. y G. peruviana
y 4 para G. laciniata.In this work there was established a protocol
of microspropagation of three native species
of the genus Glandularia, G. peruviana, G.
sp. and G. laciniata. Macro and micronutrients
half strength Murashige Skoog (MS) media
added with BAP 0.05 μM alone or in combination
with TDZ 0.1 μM were tested in the
establishment stage. Half and quarter strength
MS media with 20 or 40 g.L-1 of sucrose were
assayed at multiplication stage. It is possible to
establish and to micropropagate these species
in simple culturing media. The most efficient
media for establishment stage was that one
without growth regulators, whereas the most
suitable for the multiplication it was MS ½
with 20 g.L-1 of sucrose, where the multiplication
rate every 30 days were 6 for G. sp and

Fictitious Magnetic Resonance by Quasi-Electrostatic Field
We propose a new kind of spin manipulation method using a {\it fictitious}
magnetic field generated by a quasi-electrostatic field. The method can be
applicable to every atom with electron spins and has distinct advantages of
small photon scattering rate and local addressability. By using a
laser as a quasi-electrostatic field, we have experimentally demonstrated the
proposed method by observing the Rabi-oscillation of the ground state hyperfine
spin F=1 of the cold atoms and the Bose-Einstein condensate.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

La división de matas es una técnica de propagación
difundida con gran éxito entre las Gramíneas.
Cuando se trata de la producción comercial de este
grupo de plantas, es importante conocer la época
en que se realiza esta práctica para obtener plantas
de la mejor calidad en el menor tiempo posible.
Según algunos autores, la estación apropiada para
dividir gramíneas está relacionada con el momento
de activo crecimiento: primavera tardía para las
especies estivales y otoño o primavera temprana
para las invernales.
En este trabajo se estudió la influencia de la
época del año en la división de matas de Miscanthus
sinensis "Variegatus", Miscanthus sinensis
"Zebrinus", Miscanthus sinensis "Morning Light",
Paspalum haumanii, Leymus arenarius, Pennisetum
setaceum y Trichloris crinita en diciembre y febrero.
Se evaluaron las características ornamentales y la
precocidad, con fines comerciales, de las plantas
obtenidas en otoño y primavera tardía. Las variables
utilizadas fueron altura vegetativa, diámetro de
canopia y de corona, número de cañas y porcentaje
de sobrevivencia.
Desde el punto de vista comercial y productivo,
es conveniente realizar la división de matas en otoño
para obtener precocidad sólo en M. sinensis "Variegatus"
y M. sinensis "Zebrinus". En el caso de M. sinensis
"Morning Light", P. setaceum, T. crinita, P. haumanii y
Leymus es más adecuada la división de primavera.Division of clumps is the largest used technique
of vegetative propagation spread with great success
among the grasses. When it comes to commercial
production of ornamental grasses, it is important to
know the season that this practice is done to get
plants of the best quality in the shortest possible time.
According to some authors, division is usually best
done when grasses are in active growth: late spring
for the summer species and autumn or early spring
for the winter ones.
In this assay, the aim was to study the influence
of the season in the division of Miscanthus
sinensis "Variegatus", M. sinensis "Zebrinus", M.
sinensis "Morning Light", Paspalum haumanii,
Leymus arenarius, Pennisetum setaceum and Trichloris
crinita in December and February, it was also
evaluated the ornamental condition and precocity
of plants obtained in autumn and into late spring
with commercial purposes.The variables considered
were: vegetative height, canopy diameter, and
crown diameter, number of canes and percentage
of survival.
From commercial and productive point of
view, it is advisable to realize the division in autumn
to obtain precociousness only in M. sinensis
"Variegatus" and in M. sinensis "Zebrinus". In the
case of M. sinensis "Morning Light", P. setaceum,
T. crinita, P. haumanii and Leymus is more appropriate

GLOBAL STABILITY AND BIFURCATIONS ANALYSIS OF AN EPIDEMIC MODEL WITH CONSTANT REMOVAL RATE OF THE INFECTIVE
In this thesis we consider an epidemic model with a constant removal rate of infective individuals is proposed to understand the effect of limited resources for treatment of infective on the disease spread. It is found that it is unnecessary to take such a large treatment capacity that endemic equilibria disappear to eradicate the disease. It is shown that the outcome of disease spread may depend on the position of the initial states for certain range of parameters. It is also shown that the model undergoes a sequence of bifurcations including saddle-node bifurcation, subcritical Hopf bifurcation. Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Sympathetic Crystallization of Molecular Ions
It is shown that the translational degrees of freedom of a large variety of
molecules, from light diatomic to heavy organic ones, can be cooled
sympathetically and brought to rest (crystallized) in a linear Paul trap. The
method relies on endowing the molecules with an appropriate positive charge,
storage in a linear radiofrequency trap, and sympathetic cooling. Two
well--known atomic coolant species, and
, are sufficient for cooling the molecular mass range
from 2 to 20,000 amu. The large molecular charge required for simultaneous
trapping of heavy molecules and of the coolant ions can easily be produced
using electrospray ionization. Crystallized molecular ions offer vast

Is quarantine for covid-19 pandemic associated with psychological burden in primary ciliary dyskinesia?
Background: Information on psychological impact of COVID-19 quarantine in primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a chronic disorder with recurrent pulmonary exacerbations, is lacking. Psychological well-being was prospectively assessed during COVID-19 lockdown in Italy in a PCD population. Methods: we recruited 27 PCD patients and 27 healthy controls. To assess psychological well-being, psychological general well-being index and parenting stress index-short questionnaires were administered to participants ≥15 years-old and to mothers of participants <15 years-old, respectively. The PCD exacerbations since outbreak onset and frequency of quarantine weekly chest physiotherapy were compared to the same period of 2019. Outcomes: 70% of PCD mothers and 90% of PCD patients did not show parental stress levels or distress levels, respectively, and these groups showed no significant difference in stress compared to controls. The PCD pulmonary exacerbations occurred less frequently and weekly chest physiotherapy sessions significantly increased compared to the same period during 2019 (p < 0.05). Interpretation: During COVID-19 quarantine, a PCD population showed psychological well-being. Low exacerbation rate, explained by lower infectious exposure or improved compliance to chest physiotherapy, likely contributed to psychological well-being. Evaluating psychological burden and parental stress is a valuable tool for measuring the emotional impact of PCD and improving PCD medical care
A Unique Amphibole- and Magnetite-Rich Carbonaceous Chondrite from Almahata Sitta
Almahata Sitta (AhS) 202 from the UoK collection represents a clast from the polymict breccia asteroid 2008 TC3. AhS 202 was recognized as a unique carbonaceous chondrite (CC) with a high magnetite content. Here we report that it also contains a significant amount of amphibole, a mineral that is very rare in chondrites and has not previously been reported in significant abundance in a CC. We present new petrographic, oxygen isotope, and micro-FTIR data. We discuss petrogenesis and possible relationships to known CC
Collisions of cold magnesium atoms in a weak laser field
We use quantum scattering methods to calculate the light-induced collisional
loss of laser-cooled and trapped magnesium atoms for detunings up to 30 atomic
linewidths to the red of the 1S_0-1P_1 cooling transition. Magnesium has no
hyperfine structure to complicate the theoretical studies. We evaluate both the
radiative and nonradiative mechanisms of trap loss. The radiative escape
mechanism via allowed 1Sigma_u excitation is dominant for more than about one
atomic linewidth detuning. Molecular vibrational structure due to
photoassociative transitions to bound states begins to appear beyond about ten

Research Note: Cecal microbiota harbored by free-range chickens may influence the reduction of Helicobacter pullorum relative abundance
Helicobacter pullorum is recognized as an emerging food-borne pathogen that may colonize the intestinal tract and the liver of avian species and humans causing several gastrointestinal and liver diseases. However, not all strains are reported to be capable of causing clinical disease, thus making poultry as reservoir for the zoonotic transmission of the infection through carcass contamination of broilers at slaughter. In poultry, the prevalence of this bacterium could be underestimated and the available data mainly refer to conventional rearing systems, whereas free-range and organic breedings have been poorly investigated. Therefore, this study was aimed to characterize the caecal microbiota community of free-range grown chickens and determine the presence and the relative abundance of H. pullorum by using NGS-based 16S rDNA sequencing. A total of 18 chickens reared for 56 d on a semi-extensive management system were euthanized at two time points: 9 birds at 28 d of age (before have access to outdoor; I = Indoor) and other 9 birds at 56 d of age (before slaughter; O = Outdoor). Cecal contents were collected for microbiota analyses. H. pullorum was detected in the cecum of 16/18 samples and its proportion in indoor was significantly higher than outdoor chickens (2.46 and 0.52%, respectively; P < 0.05), showing 78.8% of decrease with the outdoor access of the chickens. Therefore, it may be assumed that the potential for zoonotic infection is less likely. Moreover, H. pullorum was negatively correlated with 17 bacterial species as significantly more abundant in Outdoor microbial caecal communities. Among these, we highlighted the presence of Mucispirillium schaedleri and Oscillospira, already previously associated with a healthy gut and thus representing promising gut bacterial markers for host health. Our findings suggest that alternative production systems with outdoor access, may play a crucial role in the establishment of a healthy gut microbiota, which in turn might prevent colonization of harmful bacteria such as Helicobacter pullorum
