Innovating innovation policy: the emergence of âResponsible Research and Innovationâ
Within the policy structures of the European Union (EU), the concept of âResponsible Research and Innovationâ (RRI) appears to have a very specific emergence point, via a workshop for invited experts hosted by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation in May 2011. Through a textual analysis of EU documents, this paper will explore the processes through which RRI has been incorporated into Horizon 2020 as a policy framework for the European Research Area which promises that technological innovation will be shaped towards social goods. It concludes by discussing some of the tensions between RRI and policies emanating from other EU institutions, highlighting areas which may impede RRI's progress towards its goals

Lady Gaga as (dis)simulacrum of monstrosity
Lady Gagaâs celebrity DNA revolves around the notion of monstrosity, an extensively
researched concept in postmodern cultural studies. The analysis that is offered in this
paper is largely informed by Deleuze and Guattariâs notion of monstrosity, as well as
by their approach to the study of sign-systems that was deployed in A Thousand
Plateaus. By drawing on biographical and archival visual data, with a focus on the
relatively underexplored live show, an elucidation is afforded of what is really monstrous
about Lady Gaga. The main argument put forward is that monstrosity as sign
seeks to appropriate the horizon of unlimited semiosis as radical alterity and openness
to signifying possibilities. In this context it is held that Gaga effectively delimits her
unique semioscape; however, any claims to monstrosity are undercut by the inherent
limits of a representationalist approach in sufficiently engulfing this concept. Gaga is
monstrous for her community insofar as she demands of her fans to project their
semiosic horizon onto her as a simulacrum of infinite semiosis. However, this simulacrum
may only be evinced in a feigned manner as a (dis)simulacrum. The analysis of
imagery from seminal live shows during 2011â2012 shows that Gagaâs presumed
monstrosity is more akin to hyperdifferentiation as simultaneous employment of
heterogeneous and potentially dissonant inter pares cultural representations. The article
concludes with a problematisation of audience effects in the light of Gagaâs adoption of
a schematic and post-representationalist strategy in the event of her strategyâs emulation
by competitive artists
Provincial differences in the number of antenatal care visits for pregnant women in South Africa: evidence from the 2016 South African Demographic and Health Survey.
Masters Degree. University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban. The aim of this study was to analyse the levels of antenatal care in South Africa, investigate the provincial differences in antenatal care visits, and examine the sociodemographic and socioeconomic factors associated with antenatal care visits in South Africa. Producing these will makes it possible for the government to have a more justice focused approach to undertaking antenatal care services in every place of need, which will in turn make previously underprivileged groups receive greater priority when addressing increase in antenatal care services.
This study used the 2016 South Africa Demographic and Health Survey. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis was conducted using Stata 14.
The findings of this study revealed a significant association between provinces and antenatal care visits and that there are differences between provinces in terms of number of antenatal care visits. Maternal age, maternal population group, and maternal place of residence were also significantly associated with the maternal report of four or more antenatal care visits.
Based on the objectives of this study, this study suggested that there should be a special focus on provinces that are geographically challenged and socioeconomically lagging to address inequalities, mobile clinics should be placed in rural areas, and lastly, further research should be conducted

Alopecia as an Early Clinical Marker for Azathioprine Induced Myelosuppression: A Case Report
Azathioprine is a pro-drug and is metabolized by the TPMT enzyme in the body. In South Asians, Azathioprine is known to cause alopecia and bone marrow suppression in patients with TPMT enzyme deficiency. In India, the prevalence of TPMT mutation varies from 1.2- 10%. A new mutation was detected in 2014, NUDT15 whose incidence varies from 8.5-16%. Patients with mutation in both TPMT and NUDT15 develop myelosuppression faster. In our case, alopecia manifested as the first clinical feature of Azathioprine myelosuppression. Physicians need to recognize early clinical clues (alopecia) to avoid the impending development of myelosuppression and to look for possible gene mutations
