Vitamin D Modulates Hematological Parameters and Cell Migration into Peritoneal and Pulmonary Cavities in Alloxan-Diabetic Mice
Background/Aims. The effects of cholecalciferol supplementation on the course of diabetes in humans and animals need to be better understood. Therefore, this study investigated the effect of short-term cholecalciferol supplementation on biochemical and hematological parameters in mice. Methods. Male diabetic (alloxan, 60mg/kg i.v., 10 days) and non diabetic mice were supplemented with cholecalciferol for seven days. The following parameters were determined: serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, phosphorus, calcium, urea, creatinine, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, red blood cell count, white blood cell count (WBC), hematocrit, hemoglobin, differential cell counts of peritoneal lavage (PeL), and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluids and morphological analysis of lung, kidney, and liver tissues. Results. Relative to controls, cholecalciferol supplementation increased serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, calcium, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell counts and decreased leukocyte cell counts of PeL and BAL fluids in diabetic mice. Diabetic mice that were not treated with cholecalciferol had lower serum calcium and albumin levels and hemoglobin, WBC, and mononuclear blood cell counts and higher serum creatinine and urea levels than controls. Conclusion. Offensive Language Detection Using Soft Voting Ensemble Model
Offensive language is one of the problems that have become increasingly severe along with the rise of the internet and social media usage. This language can be used to attack a person or specific groups. Automatic moderation, such as the usage of machine learning, can help detect and filter this particular language for someone who needs it. This study focuses on improving the performance of the soft voting classifier to detect offensive language by experimenting with the combinations of the soft voting estimators. The model was applied to a Twitter dataset that was augmented using several augmentation techniques. The features were extracted using Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency, sentiment analysis, and GloVe embedding. In this study, there were two types of soft voting models: machine learning-based, with the estimators of Random Forest, Decision Tree, Logistic Regression, Naïve Bayes, and AdaBoost as the best combination, and deep learning-based, with the best estimator combination of Convolutional Neural Network, Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory, and Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit. The results of this study show that the soft voting classifier was better in performance compared to classic machine learning and deep learning models on both original and augmented datasets
Contextual meaning of the swear words used in soulfly's primitive album
ABSTRACT
Fuck, fucking, fucked up, fuck off, fuck you, fucker, motherfucker, freak, freaking out, bitch, bastard, shit, bullshit, damn, goddamn, and assholes are examples of English swear words that are considered taboo which can not be said in formal situation in western culture.
Swear words can be defined as words that refer to something that is taboo and / or stigmatized in the culture, should not be translated literally, and can be used to express strong emotion an attitudes. These words can be utilized to describe many situations (dismay, fraud, trouble, aggression, passive, confusion, difficulty, despair, incompetence, philosophical, laziness, displeasure, rebellion, abusive, and expletive).
Contextual meaning can be defined as meaning that is elaborated based on knowledge of the previous sentences (spoken or written), general knowledge of the world, knowledge of the speaker, and situation that occurred.
Lyric is words of song expressing direct personal feeling. In other hand, lyrics are composed for singing.
This study is aimed at answering research problem and gain better understanding of the swear words. The problem is What is the contextual meaning of swear-words found in lyrics of Soulfiy in Primitive album? The objective of this study is to find out the contextual meaning of swear-words based on analysis in every Soulfly’s song in Primitive album.
The research design used in this study is the Qualitative one due to attends to find out, describe, and explain the contextual meaning of the swear words used in Soulfly’s Primitive album and the data are in the form of text of the song or symbolic one not members.
The result of this study shows that Soulfly uses various swear words such as: fuck, shit, screw, damn, motherfucker, bitch, assholes, etc. Most of swear words which are used by Soulfly express hate to something or someone and abusive, but none of the swear words meaning that express sexual intercourse and narcotic (marijuana, heroin, etc).
From this analysis, the writer realizes that this study is far from being perfect. The writer hopes that there will be other researchers who concern to this topic and explore the swear words dealing with other topics such as grammar of swearing, social restriction on swear words in a certain culture, ritualized swearing in certain speech communities at the same culture, swear words on children (psycholinguistics aspects), etc. He also hopes that this analysis can raise the readers’ desire to understand and interest in studying the swear words found in literary works or daily conversations. Hopefully, this thesis will be useful for everyone who is interested in studying about linguistics and literature
Jenis Tempat Perindukan Dan Spesies Nyamuk Anopheles sp. Di Desa Mata Air Kecamatan Kupang Tengah Kabupaten Kupang
Malaria merupakan penyakit menular yang masih menjadi masalah di NTT yang disebabkan oleh parasit dari genus plasmodium dan ditularkan oleh gigitan nyamuk Anopheles. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah Mengetahui jenis tempat perindukan dan spesies nyamuk Anopheles sp. Jenis penelitian dan yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif. Variabel penelitian yaitu mengetahui jenis tempat perindukan Anopheles sp dan mengetahui spesies nyamuk Anopheles sp., Metode yang digunakan adalah survei dan observasi di lapangan. Data hasil penelitian dianalisa secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian yaitu ditemukan jenis tempat perindukan jentik Anopheles sp pada Sawah dengan kepadatan jentik sebanyak 3,8 ekor/cidukan, Rawa-rawa sebanyak 4,5 ekor/cidukan, Sungai sebanyak 2 ekor/cidukan dan Lagun dengan kepadatan 2,5 ekor/cidukan. Spesies Anopheles yang ditemukan yaitu terdapat pada tempat perindukan Rawa-rawa dengan spesies Anopheles vagus dan Anopheles subpictus, pada tempat perindukan Sawah terdapat spesies Anopheles vagus, pada tempat perindukan lagun terdapat spesies Anopheles subpictus dan pada tempat perindukan sungai terdapat jenis spesies Anopheles vagus. Kesimpulan hasil penelitian ini adalah jenis tempat perindukan di Desa Mata Air yaitu jenis sawah, rawa-rawa, sungai, dan lagun. Spesies Anopheles yang terdapat di Desa Mata Air yaitu Anopheles vagus dan Anopheles subpictus .Saran untuk peneliti selanjutnya agar dapat meneliti plasmodium pada setiap spesies Anopheles
Histomorphological analysis and glycosaninoglycan profile im comb of castrated cockerels after treatment with testosterone, estrongens or progesterone
Foi avaliado neste estudo, sob o ponto de vista histomorfologico e histoquimico, os efeitos do tratamento com propionato de testosterona, estrogenios conjugados equinos ou acetato de medroxiprogesterona, sobre a crista de galos. Os animais foram distribuidos, aleatoriamente, em cinco grupos: GI - grupo sham - falsamente castrado, recebeu 0,5 ml/ave de oleo de milho; Gil - grupo controle, recebeu 0,5 ml/ave oleo de milho, apos a castracao; GIII - animais castrados que receberam 0,75 mg/ave de propionato de testosterona; GIV - Animais que receberam, apos a castracao, 2,0 mg/ave de estrogenios conjugados equinos e GV - animais castrados que receberam, 1,0 mg/ave de acetato de medroxiprogesterona. Todas as substancias foram administradas por via intramuscular, 14 dias apos a castracao, em 8 doses em dias alternados. No dia seguinte, apos o tratamento, as aves foram fotografadas para estudo da morfologia das cristas, e em seguida, sacrificadas e as cristas removidas. Desse modo, parte do material colhido foi mergulhado em formol a 10 por cento para estudo histologico e histoquimico ao microscopio de luz e, o restante, mergulhado em acetona para deteccao e determinacao dos glicosaminoglicanos. Os resultados mostraram que o propionato de testosterona apresentou efeito trofico sobre a crista, tanto nos aspectos morfologicos, estimulando seu desenvolvimento, quanto no aumento da concentracao de acido hialuronico, porem, mostrou efeito inibidor sobre a sintese de glicosaminoglicanos sulfatados. 0 dermatam sulfato e o condroitim sulfato tambem foram detectados, sendo o acido hialuronico, o glicosaminoglicano predominante, ao passo que quanto ao condroitim sulfato, apenas tracos foram encontrados. Os estrogenios conjugados equinos e o acetato de medroxiprogesterona nao alteraram os niveis de glicosaminoglicanos na crista de galoBV UNIFESP: Teses e dissertaçõe
