This study examines the probable contributions of tourism in rural areas for the social and economical development of Minas Gerais State. It fits within the scope of research aiming to identify the mechanisms and strategies which allow rural families to increase their income and utilize their work force with non-agricultural rural activity. In this study it was conclude that the potentialities of tourism in rural areas are relevant in the State, due to natural, cultural and historical attractions, which makes the state one that keeps the larger number of investments directed to the touristic activities on rural area.tourism in rural areas, non-agricultural activity, rural families., Resource /Energy Economics and Policy,

This paper aimed to evaluate the technical efficiency of milk producers in the Projeto de Assentamento (PA) Feliz União, municipality of Lagoa Grande, MG. To this collected data to some of the milk production of 23 settlers in 2007 and later was used as analytical tools used Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to assess the technical efficiency of producers. The results show that the majority of producers (84%) are technically inefficient. Of inefficient farmers, 87% are operating under increasing returns to scale and 13% operating under diminishing returns to scale. Analyzing it is efficient and inefficient producers are mainly realizes that efficient producers are more intensive factor in the labor force and have herd dairy specialist for the activity. Technical assistance was not an important factor that explains the efficiency and inefficiency of producers.Rural settlement, DEA, Milk, Minas Gerais, Farm Management,

Observou-se, também, que todos os produtores ineficientes estão trabalhando sob retornos crescentes à escala, o que permite afirmar que estes poderiam aumentar seu lucro mais que proporcional quando aumentada à produção.-----------------The main objective of this paper was to evaluate the technical efficiency in 22 milk producers in the PA FrutaD’Anta, in the council de João Pinheiro, MG, during the period of 2006. The technical efficiency was evaluted through the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) technique. The results obtained show that there are still a significant proportion of inefficient farms. It was also observed that the inefficient producers are working on crescent returns to scale that admit so affirm that these could increase yours lucre more that proportional increasing yours production.assentamentos rurais, DEA, produção de leite, Minas Gerais, rural settlement, milk production, DEA. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the efficiency and the competitiveness of the sugarcane production in Minas Gerais, based on different production systems. The applied theory is based on the Theory of the Firm and of the International Trade. The analytical method is the Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM). The results suggest that the production systems are competitive and efficient and that the irrigated production system presented the greatest competitiveness.Competitiveness, Policy Analysis Matrix, Sugarcane, Crop Production/Industries,

Currently, extensive livestock farming has been the main form of beef cattle production in Brazil. The pasture plays a central role in this system, because it is the main source of power supply. This work aimed to present remote sensing techniques that can identify and classify pastures in different degradation processes by Pasture Vegetation Cover - PVC. There were five different classes of degradation in the rural Ilha do Coco settlement - MT, beyond the pasture process of evolution over time, comparing the initial rearing period to the current period (2014). It was found that over time, the degradation of pasture decreases in this settlement, which is the result of a decrease in cattle stocking rate

J.A. Ferreira Neto, E.C. Santos Junior, U. Fra Paleo, D. Miranda Barros, and M.C.O. Moreira. 2011. Optimal subdivision of land in agrarian reform projects: an analysis using genetic algorithms. Cien. Inv. Agr. 38(2): 169-178. The objective of this manuscript is to develop a new procedure to achieve optimal land subdivision using genetic algorithms (GA). The genetic algorithm was tested in the rural settlement of Veredas, located in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This implementation was based on the land aptitude and its productivity index. The sequence of tests in the study was carried out in two areas with eight different agricultural aptitude classes, including one area of 391.88 ha subdivided into 12 lots and another of 404.1763 ha subdivided into 14 lots. The effectiveness of the method was measured using the shunting line standard value of a parceled area lot`s productivity index. To evaluate each parameter, a sequence of 15 calculations was performed to record the best individual fitness average (MMI) found for each parameter variation. The best parameter combination found in testing and used to generate the new parceling with the GA was the following: 320 as the generation number, a population of 40 individuals, 0.8 mutation tax, and a 0.3 renewal tax. The solution generated rather homogeneous lots in terms of productive capacity.Fundacion Carolina, SpainFundacion Carolina, Spai
