Sand seatrout (Cynoscion arenarius) and silver seatrout (C.
nothus) are both found within the immediate offshore areas of the Gulf of Mexico, especially around Texas; however information is limited on how much distributional overlap really occurs between these species. In order to investigate spatial and seasonal differences between species, we analyzed twenty years of bay and offshore trawl data collected by biologists of the Coastal Fisheries Division, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Sand seatrout and silver seatrout were distributed differently among offshore sampling areas, and salinity and water depth appeared to correlate with their distribution. Additionally,
within the northernmost sampling area of the gulf waters, water depth correlated significantly with the presence of silver seatrout, which were found at deeper depths than sand
seatrout. There was also an overall significant decrease in silver seatrout abundance during the summer season, when temperatures were at their highest, and this decrease may
have indicated a migration farther offshore. Sand seatrout abundance had an inverse relationship with salinity and water depth offshore. In addition, sand seatrout abundance was highest in bays with direct passes to the gulf and correlated with corresponding abundance in offshore areas. these differences to the hydrological and geological features found along the Texas coastline
Stage-Specific Sampling by Pattern Recognition Receptors during Candida albicans Phagocytosis
Candida albicans is a medically important pathogen, and recognition by innate immune cells is critical for its clearance. Although a number of pattern recognition receptors have been shown to be involved in recognition and phagocytosis of this fungus, the relative role of these receptors has not been formally examined. In this paper, we have investigated the contribution of the mannose receptor, Dectin-1, and complement receptor 3; and we have demonstrated that Dectin-1 is the main non-opsonic receptor involved in fungal uptake. However, both Dectin-1 and complement receptor 3 were found to accumulate at the site of uptake, while mannose receptor accumulated on C. albicans phagosomes at later stages. These results suggest a potential role for MR in phagosome sampling; and, accordingly, MR deficiency led to a reduction in TNF-α and MCP-1 production in response to C. albicans uptake. Our data suggest that pattern recognition receptors sample the fungal phagosome in a sequential fashion

Properties of Solutions in 2+1 Dimensions
We solve the Einstein equations for the 2+1 dimensions with and without
scalar fields. We calculate the entropy, Hawking temperature and the emission
probabilities for these cases. We also compute the Newman-Penrose coefficients

Síntesis de ectomicorrizas entre Cistus sp. y las especies del complejo Boletus edulis
En los jarales resultantes de la reiteración de incendios forestales en el oeste de Castilla y León (León, Salamanca y Zamora) es habitual la presencia de fructificaciones de Boletus edulis Bull. La recolección de estos hongos micorrícicos comestibles en los jarales dominados exclusivamente por Cistus ladanifer, supone una oportunidad económica alternativa a los usos tradicionales para zonas con bajos ingresos procedentes del monte.
El objetivo de éste trabajo es la obtención de ectomicorrizas de las especies del complejo B. edulis con Cistus sp. bajo condiciones controladas, y las descripciones anatómicas detalladas de las mismas. La identificación de los aislados fúngicos de Boletus aereus Bull., B. edulis, B.
reticulatus Schaeff. y B. pinophilus Pilát & Dermek fue confirmada por métodos moleculares.
Se han obtenido ectomicorrizas de Boletus aereus, B. edulis y B. reticulatus con Cistus
albidus L. y C. ladanifer en condiciones de síntesis en cultivo puro, en un substrato de turbavermiculita estéril y solución nutritiva. Las ectomicorrizas formadas se describieron siguiendo los caracteres anatómicos y morfológicos habituales. Las tres ectomicorrizas son muy similares, de color blanco, con ramificación monopodial-pinnada, manto formado por tres capas plectenquimatosas y con rizomorfos de tipo boletoide
Extended phase space thermodynamics for charged and rotating black holes and Born-Infeld vacuum polarization
We investigate the critical behaviour of charged and rotating AdS black holes
in d spacetime dimensions, including effects from non-linear electrodynamics
via the Born-Infeld action, in an extended phase space in which the
cosmological constant is interpreted as thermodynamic pressure. For
Reissner-Nordstrom black holes we find that the analogy with the Van der Walls
liquid-gas system holds in any dimension greater than three, and that the
critical exponents coincide with those of the Van der Waals system. We find
that neutral slowly rotating black holes in four space-time dimensions also
have the same qualitative behaviour. However charged and rotating black holes
in three spacetime dimensions do not exhibit critical phenomena. For
Born-Infeld black holes we define a new thermodynamic quantity B conjugate to
the Born-Infeld parameter b that we call Born-Infeld vacuum polarization. We
demonstrate that this quantity is required for consistency of both the first

Anxiety is associated with diminished exercise performance and quality of life in severe emphysema: a cross-sectional study
Background: Anxiety in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is associated with selfreported
disability. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is an association between anxiety and
functional measures, quality of life and dyspnea.
Methods: Data from 1828 patients with moderate to severe emphysema enrolled in the National Emphysema
Treatment Trial (NETT), collected prior to rehabilitation and randomization, were used in linear regression models to
test the association between anxiety symptoms, measured by the Spielberger State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI)
and: (a) six-minute walk distance test (6 MWD), (b) cycle ergometry peak workload, (c) St. Georges Respiratory
Questionnaire (SRGQ), and (d) UCSD Shortness of Breath Questionnaire (SOBQ), after controlling for potential
confounders including age, gender, FEV1 (% predicted), DLCO (% predicted), and the Beck Depression Inventory
(BDI).
Results: Anxiety was significantly associated with worse functional capacity [6 MWD (B = -0.944, p < .001),
ergometry peak workload (B = -.087, p = .04)], quality of life (B = .172, p < .001) and shortness of breath (B = .180,
p < .001). Regression coefficients show that a 10 point increase in anxiety score is associated with a mean decrease
in 6 MWD of 9 meters, a 1 Watt decrease in peak exercise workload, and an increase of almost 2 points on both
the SGRQ and SOBQ.
Conclusion: In clinically stable patients with moderate to severe emphysema, anxiety is associated with worse
exercise performance, quality of life and shortness of breath, after accounting for the influence of demographic

Oral chondroitin sulfate and prebiotics for the treatment of canine Inflammatory Bowel Disease: a randomized, controlled clinical trial
BACKGROUND
Canine inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic enteropathy of unknown etiology, although microbiome dysbiosis, genetic susceptibility, and dietary and/or environmental factors are hypothesized to be involved in its pathogenesis. Since some of the current therapies are associated with severe side effects, novel therapeutic modalities are needed. A new oral supplement for long-term management of canine IBD containing chondroitin sulfate (CS) and prebiotics (resistant starch, β-glucans and mannaoligosaccharides) was developed to target intestinal inflammation and oxidative stress, and restore normobiosis, without exhibiting any side effects. This double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled trial in dogs with IBD aims to evaluate the effects of 180 days administration of this supplement together with a hydrolyzed diet on clinical signs, intestinal histology, gut microbiota, and serum biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress.
RESULTS
Twenty-seven client-owned biopsy-confirmed IBD dogs were included in the study, switched to the same hydrolyzed diet and classified into one of two groups: supplement and placebo. Initially, there were no significant differences between groups (p > 0.05) for any of the studied parameters. Final data analysis (supplement: n = 9; placebo: n = 10) showed a significant decrease in canine IBD activity index (CIBDAI) score in both groups after treatment (p < 0.001). After treatment, a significant decrease (1.53-fold; p < 0.01) in histologic score was seen only in the supplement group. When groups were compared, the supplement group showed significantly higher serum cholesterol (p < 0.05) and paraoxonase-1 (PON1) levels after 60 days of treatment (p < 0.01), and the placebo group showed significantly reduced serum total antioxidant capacity (TAC) levels after 120 days (p < 0.05). No significant differences were found between groups at any time point for CIBDAI, WSAVA histologic score and fecal microbiota evaluated by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). No side effects were reported in any group.
CONCLUSIONS
The combined administration of the supplement with hydrolyzed diet over 180 days was safe and induced improvements in selected serum biomarkers, possibly suggesting a reduction in disease activity. This study was likely underpowered, therefore larger studies are warranted in order to demonstrate a supplemental effect to dietary treatment of this supplement on intestinal histology and CIBDAI
