    The purpose of the present study is to explore the positive effects of Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) on other important factors such as students’ motivation. STAD was used with thirty students and was compared to thirty management students who worked in groups lacking the key components of STAD. Both groups completed pretest and posttest and responded in motivational questionnaire which measured changes in exposure to writing skill in English. The findings showed that (1) there was a significant progress within each group, (2) there was also significant mean difference between the experimental and control group with the contribution of the STAD approach to students’ motivation and to writing achievemen

    The purpose of this study was study analyze the students’ error in writing argumentative essay. The researcher focuses on errors of verb, concord and learner language. This study took 20 students as the subject of research from the third semester. The data took from observation and documentation. Based on the result of the data analysis there are some errors still found on the student’s argumentative essay in English writing? The common errors which repeatedly appear are verb. The second is concord, and learner languages are the smallest error. From 20 samples that took, the frequency the errors of verb are 12 items (60%), concord are 8 items (40%), learner languages are 7 items (35%). As a result, verb has the biggest number of common errors

    Developing Secret Code Card for Students’ Writing Ability

    Indonesian students’ ability in writing English is actually less than expectations. Commonly some lacks in writing English are English vocabulary and grammar. Therefore, this study focuses on developing Secret Code Cards to increasing students’ ability in writing descriptive text. Type of this study is Research and Development (R&D). Some steps in this kind of study are self-evaluation, expert review and one-to-one, small group, and field test. The subjects of the research were the eighth graders of junior high school in Metro. From the steps conducted by the researcher there are some revisions of the product from the first prototype. The revisions are addition of bright colour and instruction, clearer instruction, more understandable words, and also to make the product in bigger shape. In the field test the students responded well and got interested in using the product. It means that the product can be used effectively in helping the students and make them interested in writing descriptive text. Based on the finding, the researcher concludes that Secret Code Card is an effective English learning media in writing descriptive text for the eighth graders. The researcher also concludes that students will become more interested in learning English by using playful learning media like Secret Code Card in the class

    Abstract: Writing is activity to mix between the idea, vocabulary and also grammar. By looking at the problems, the teacher should make the proper method in teaching writing in order to increase the students writing skill and also make the writing be an interesting activity to them. One of the good methods is using video as a media of learning. Video can stimulates the student’s to makes them easier to find the ideas in writing process, because video included 3D and also the complex media. This research was aimed at detecting the influence of using video as a media toward student's writing performance.This research was quantitative research form and the sampling technique was random sampling. The data collection method in this research used the documentation and test that consist of pre-test and pos-test. The data analysis technique of this research used T-test as the hypothetical statistic calculation. Based on the research analysis, there is any positive and significant influence of using video as a media toward students’ writing performance of banking students

    THE CORRELATION AMONG READING STRATEGIES, READING COMPREHENSION ACHIEVEMENT AND GENDER DIFFERENCES OF THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 17 PALEMBANG

    Abstract: The study was aimed at finding out (1) the reading strategies dominantly used by the second year students (2) whether or not there was significant correlation between students’ reading strategies and reading comprehension achievement (3) whether or not there was any difference between male and female students in terms of reading strategies and reading comprehension achievement, (4) whether or not students’ reading strategies influence reading comprehension achievement. The data were collected using Reading Strategies Questionnaire and a reading test. The findings of the study showed that: first, the students mostly used metacognitive strategies in reading activity. Second, there was a strong and positive correlation between reading comprehension achievement and reading strategies. Third, male and female of students have any significance difference in their reading strategies and their reading comprehension achievement. The last, students’ reading strategies influence their reading comprehension achievement. 

    THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CIRC METHOD AND COMIC-STRIP MEDIA TO ENGLISH WRITING ABILITY OF THE MECHANICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS

    University students have to be able towrite in English,the ability is not only expected to  English educations’ students but also for all students in University. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the comic-strip media in improving mechanical engineering students in writing ability. In this research, the research will be focus on the procedure text.This research applied quasi-experimental “pre-test post-test design”. It is conducted at the Muhammadiyah University of Metro in academic Year 2015/2016. The Population involved in this study is mechanical engineering students which consist of 60 students. The researcher took all the population as the sample of this study;30 students as experimental class and 30students as control class. The variables of this study are (1) CIRC Method with comic-strip media as independent variables, (2) Ability to write as the dependent variable. The instrument used in this study is the writing test. To analyze the data, researchers uses ttestformula.The results showed the value of  ttestTTable 3.57 and 2.00 (criterion 1) and 2.66 (criterion 2). From these results it can be concluded that the CIRC method through comic strips can improve writing ability in mechanical engineering students

    Bibliometrics Analysis of English Teaching Method in Covid-19 Pandemic

    Covid-19 requires educators to innovate using the adaptive English teaching method. Various researchers have researched English teaching methods to solve the learning process in the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore multiple studies need to be compiled into one discussion to produce information for the next researchers about future opportunities. This study conducts the Bibliometrics Analysis method to analyze the citation of research articles. The study population adopts article primer data of English teaching method in Covid-19 pandemic by searching through Google scholar with the key “English teaching method in Covid-19 pandemic” using Publish or Perish (PoP) software in December 2020. Based on the initial data search using the Publish or Perish (PoP) application, there were 989 articles. After screening the suitability of the topic, 63 articles were obtained, which became data to discuss. Data mapping results using the VOSViewer Software show the research trend is in the keyword that appears the most of sixty-three articles such as student, pandemic Covid, teacher, education, teaching, and EFL Teacher. Therefore, the next research potential uses other teaching media of the keyword summary presented by VOSViewer
