Measuring dynamic oil film coefficients of sliding bearing

    Get PDF
A method is presented for determining the dynamic coefficients of bearing oil film. By varying the support stiffness and damping, eight dynamic coefficients of the bearing were determined. Simple and easy to apply, the method can be used in solving practical machine problems

Effect of Local Magnetic Moments on the Metallic Behavior in Two Dimensions

    Get PDF
The temperature dependence of conductivity σ(T)\sigma (T) in the metallic phase of a two-dimensional electron system in silicon has been studied for different concentrations of local magnetic moments. The local moments have been induced by disorder, and their number was varied using substrate bias. The data suggest that in the limit of T→0T\to 0 the metallic behavior, as characterized by dσ/dT<0d\sigma/dT < 0, is suppressed by an arbitrarily small amount of scattering by local magnetic moments.Comment: 4 pages, revtex, plus four encapsulated postscript figure

The delayed sensor measurement is assumed to be a linear function of a stochastic variable that satisfies the Bernoulli random binary distribution law. An upper bound for the actual covariance of the uncertain stochastic parameter system is derived and used for estimation variance constraints. Such an upper bound is then minimized over the filter parameters for all stochastic sensor delays and admissible deterministic uncertainties. It is shown that the desired filter can be obtained in terms of solutions to two discrete Riccati difference equations of a form suitable for recursive computation in online applications. An illustrative example is presented to show the applicability of the proposed method

Upgrading organic compounds through the coupling of electrooxidation with hydrogen evolution

    Get PDF
The electrocatalytic splitting of water is recognized to be the most sustainable and clean technology for the production of hydrogen (H2). Unfortunately, the efficiency is seriously restricted by the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at the anode. In contrast to the OER, the electrooxidation of organic compounds (EOO) is more thermodynamically and kinetically favorable. Thus, the coupling of the EOO and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) has emerged as an alternative route, as it can greatly improve the catalytic efficiency for the production of H2. Simultaneously, value-added organic compounds can be generated on the anode through electrooxidation upgrading. In this Minireview, we highlight the latest progress and milestones in coupling the EOO with the HER. Emphasis is focused on the design of the anode catalyst, understanding the reaction mechanism, and the construction of the electrolyzer. Moreover, challenges and prospects are offered relating to the future development of this emerging technolog
