On Observing Dynamic Prioritised Actions in SOC
We study the impact on observational semantics for SOC of priority mechanisms which combine dynamic priority with local pre-emption. We define manageable notions of strong and weak labelled bisimilarities for COWS, a process calculus for SOC, and provide alternative characterisations in terms of open barbed bisimilarities. These semantics show that COWS’s priority mechanisms partially recover the capability to observe receive actions (that could not be observed in a purely asynchronous setting) and that high priority primitives for termination impose specific conditions on the bisimilarities
Investigation of CoFeSi: The Heusler compound with Highest Curie Temperature and Magnetic Moment
This work reports on structural and magnetic investigations of the Heusler
compound CoFeSi. X-Ray diffraction and M\"o\ss bauer spectrometry indicate
an ordered structure. Magnetic measurements by means of X-ray magnetic
circular dichroism and magnetometry revealed that this compound is, currently,
the material with the highest magnetic moment () and Curie-temperature
(1100K) in the classes of Heusler compounds as well as half-metallic
ferromagnets
Substituting the main group element in cobalt - iron based Heusler alloys: CoFeAlSi
This work reports about electronic structure calculations for the Heusler
compound CoFeAlSi. Particular emphasis was put on the role of
the main group element in this compound. The substitution of Al by Si leads to
an increase of the number of valence electrons with increasing Si content and
may be seen as electron-doping. Self-consistent electronic structure
calculations were performed to investigate the consequences of the electron
doping for the magnetic properties. The series CoFeAlSi is
found to exhibit half-metallic ferromagnetism and the magnetic moment follows
the Slater-Pauling rule. It is shown that the electron-doping stabilises the
gap in the minority states for .Comment: J. Phys. D (accepted
Correlation in the transition metal based Heusler compounds CoMnSi and CoFeSi
Half-metallic ferromagnets like the full Heusler compounds with formula
XYZ are supposed to show an integer value of the spin magnetic moment.
Calculations reveal in certain cases of X = Co based compounds non-integer
values, in contrast to experiments. In order to explain deviations of the
magnetic moment calculated for such compounds, the dependency of the electronic
structure on the lattice parameter was studied theoretically. In local density
approximation (LDA), the minimum total energy of CoFeSi is found for the
experimental lattice parameter, but the calculated magnetic moment is about 12%
too low. Half-metallic ferromagnetism and a magnetic moment equal to the
experimental value of are found, however, only after increasing the
lattice parameter by more than 6%.
To overcome this discrepancy, the LDA scheme was used to respect on-site
electron correlation in the calculations. Those calculations revealed for
CoFeSi that an effective Coulomb-exchange interaction in the
range of about 2eV to 5eV leads to half-metallic ferromagnetism and the
measured, integer magnetic moment at the measured lattice parameter. Finally,
it is shown in the case of CoMnSi that correlation may also serve to
destroy the half-metallic behavior if it becomes too strong (for CoMnSi
above 2eV and for CoFeSi above 5eV). These findings indicate that on-site
correlation may play an important role in the description of Heusler compounds
with localized moments.Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev.
Anisotropic magnetization, critical temperature, and paramagnetic Curie temperature in the highly anisotropic magnetic Heusler compound Rh2CoSb
The paramagnetic Curie temperature theta(p) is a concept that describes the magnetic ordering temperature in the well-established Curie-Weiss law. Despite the successful explanations of the magnetic behavior, the anisotropy is not usually considered. Although anisotropic theta(p) has been reported for several layered antiferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic materials owing to the orientation-dependent exchange, in ferromagnetic systems, theta(p) was thought to be almost isotropic for decades, and the occasionally reported small difference has remained unexplained. In this paper, we experimentally report the anisotropic magnetization, critical temperature, and paramagnetic Curie temperature in highly anisotropic magnetic Rh2CoSb caused by a large magnetocrystalline anisotropy. The saturation magnetization along the c axis is 25% larger than that along the a axis. The critical temperature and paramagnetic Curie temperature along the c axis are 6 and 15 K higher than those along the a axis, respectively, as deduced from the Arrott plots and inverse susceptibility. A simple modification of the Curie-Weiss law was made to calculate the anisotropic theta(p), which well explains not only Rh2CoSb, but also many other previously reported ferromagnetic materials
Reverse Bisimulations on Stable Configuration Structures
The relationships between various equivalences on configuration structures,
including interleaving bisimulation (IB), step bisimulation (SB) and hereditary
history-preserving (HH) bisimulation, have been investigated by van Glabbeek
and Goltz (and later Fecher). Since HH bisimulation may be characterised by the
use of reverse as well as forward transitions, it is of interest to investigate
forms of IB and SB where both forward and reverse transitions are allowed. We
give various characterisations of reverse SB, showing that forward steps do not
add extra power. We strengthen Bednarczyk's result that, in the absence of
auto-concurrency, reverse IB is as strong as HH bisimulation, by showing that
we need only exclude auto-concurrent events at the same depth in the
configuration
Infectious Complications in Obese Patients Following Trauma
Background
Obesity is a public health concern in the United States due to its increasing prevalence, especially in younger age groups. Trauma is the most common cause of death for people under aged 40 y. The purpose of this study is to determine the association between obesity and specific infectious complications after traumatic injury.
Materials and methods
A retrospective analysis was conducted using data from the 2012 National Trauma Data Bank. The National Trauma Data Bank defined obesity as having a body mass index of 30 or greater. Descriptive statistics were calculated and stratified by obesity status. A hierarchical regression model was used to determine the odds of experiencing an infectious complication in patients with obesity while controlling for age, gender, diabetes, number of comorbidities, injury severity, injury mechanism, head injury, and surgical procedure.
Results
Patients with a body mass index of 30 or greater compared with nonobese patients had increased odds of having an infectious complication (Odds Ratio, 1.59; 1.49-1.69). In addition to obesity, injury severity score greater than 29, age 40 y or older, diabetes, comorbid conditions, and having a surgical procedure were also predictive of an infectious complication.
Conclusions
Our results indicate that trauma patients with obesity are nearly 60% more likely to develop an infectious complication in the hospital. Infection prevention and control measures should be implemented soon after hospital arrival for patients with obesity, particularly those with operative trauma
Magnetic and structural depth profiles of Heusler alloy Co2FeAl0.5Si0.5 epitaxial films on Si(1 1 1)
The depth-resolved chemical structure and magnetic moment of Co2FeAl0.5Si0.5, thin films grown on Si(1 1 1) have been determined using x-ray and polarized neutron reflectometry. Bulk-like magnetization is retained across the majority of the film, but reduced moments are observed within 45˚A of the surface and in a 25˚A substrate-interface region. The reduced moment is related to compositional changes due to oxidation and diffusion, which are further quantified by elemental profiling using electron microscopy with electron energy loss spectroscopy. The accuracy of structural and magnetic depth-profiles obtained from simultaneous modeling is discussed using different approaches with different degree of constraints on the parameters. Our approach illustrates the challenges in fitting reflectometry data from these multi-component quaternary Heusler alloy thin films
