    Meta-analysis of the diagnostic performance of stress perfusion cardiovascular magnetic resonance for detection of coronary artery disease

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Aim</p> <p>Evaluation of the diagnostic accuracy of stress perfusion cardiovascular magnetic resonance for the diagnosis of significant obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) through meta-analysis of the available data.</p> <p>Methodology</p> <p>Original articles in any language published before July 2009 were selected from available databases (MEDLINE, Cochrane Library and BioMedCentral) using the combined search terms of magnetic resonance, perfusion, and coronary angiography; with the exploded term coronary artery disease. Statistical analysis was only performed on studies that: (1) used a [greater than or equal to] 1.5 Tesla MR scanner; (2) employed invasive coronary angiography as the reference standard for diagnosing significant obstructive CAD, defined as a [greater than or equal to] 50% diameter stenosis; and (3) provided sufficient data to permit analysis.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>From the 263 citations identified, 55 relevant original articles were selected. Only 35 fulfilled all of the inclusion criteria, and of these 26 presented data on patient-based analysis. The overall patient-based analysis demonstrated a sensitivity of 89% (95% CI: 88-91%), and a specificity of 80% (95% CI: 78-83%). Adenosine stress perfusion CMR had better sensitivity than with dipyridamole (90% (88-92%) versus 86% (80-90%), P = 0.022), and a tendency to a better specificity (81% (78-84%) versus 77% (71-82%), P = 0.065).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Stress perfusion CMR is highly sensitive for detection of CAD but its specificity remains moderate.</p

    Early Periimplant Tissue Healing on 1-Piece Implants With a Concave Transmucosal Design

    International audienceIntroduction: The purpose of our study was to investigate the early healing phase of marginal bone and soft tissues around unloaded 1-piece implants with a concave transmucosal design, in a dog model.Methods: Twenty-four 1-piece implants with a concave transmucosal neck were inserted 1 mm subcrestally in the mandibular ridge of 8 beagle dogs. Four animals were sacrificed after 3 and 12 weeks of healing. Histomorphometric analysis was performed to measure the height of the periimplant tissues.Results and Discussion: The overall height of the periimplant mucosa was, respectively, 2.67 and 2.52 mm, after 3 and 12 weeks. In the connective tissue, a soft tissue O-ring seal was observed in the healing area provided by the transmucosal concavity, after 12 weeks. The location of the first bone-to-implant contact facing the implant shoulder was 0.00 and +0.18 mm, respectively, after 3 and 12 weeks of healing. Some bone apposition occurred on the implant shoulder during the healing.Conclusion: Within the limits of the present study, a concave transmucosal design in 1-piece implants was associated with a short vertical value of biological width and promoted a mechanical interlocking of the implant body at the connective tissue and marginal bone levels

    Multiscale modelling of gas sensors response to mixture of CO, CO2 and H2O exposure

    International audienceMetal oxides such as tin oxide (SnO 2) are widely used for gas sensing applications, particularly in environmental applications. The change in the resistance of the sensing layer is the detection principle of the gas sensors. The variations of the resistance are due to the charge transfers resulting from the chemical reactions which occur at the surface of the tin dioxide sensitive layer. In this work, a multiscale approach is developed in order to model interactions of SnO 2 with various gases, such as CO and CO 2. Ab initio calculations are systematically used to identify and characterize, at the atomic scale, the chemical reactions occurring at the surface of the sensitive layer of the sensor. Structures and activation energies associated to surface reactions, and charge transfers characteristics of each surface species, are determined. To simulate the sensors behaviour on a wider scale, a mesoscopic model based on the ab initio results and a chemical rate theory technique is developed. This model gives the temporal evolution of the sensors response as a function of external parameters. This methodology, combining ab initio calculations and mesoscopic model, leads to a better understanding of the macroscopic gas sensor behaviour. We identify the SnO 2 reduction by CO, the catalytic oxidation mechanism of CO involving successive reduction and reoxidation of the oxide layer and the tricky detection of CO 2 gas as a function of external parameters like humidity
