    An integral equation method for the inverse conductivity problem

    We present an image reconstruction algorithm for the Inverse Conductivity Problem based on reformulating the problem in terms of integral equations. We use as data the values of injected electric currents and of the corresponding induced boundary potentials, as well as the boundary values of the electrical conductivity. We have used a priori information to find a regularized conductivity distribution by first solving a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind for the Laplacian of the potential, and then by solving a first order partial differential equation for the regularized conductivity itself. Many of the calculations involved in the method can be achieved analytically using the eigenfunctions of an integral operator defined in the paper.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figure

    In a model study, polyethylene was preoxidized and incubated for a period of 7 months at 40°C in two different municipal solid waste leachates. During the postexperimental analyses, specific attention was paid to the carbonyl species and carboxylic acid depletion during the environmental exposure because it is well known that carboxylic acids are believed to be a potential substrate for the development of microorganisms. The results showed that the carbonyl as well as the carboxylic acid depletion observed follows first-order kinetics.     National Technical-Scientific Conference „Modern Technologies for the 3rd Millenium” (21th. 2022. Oradea)This paper summarizes the international and European policies, underlining the importance of the legislative context in the existing concern at all levels for a sustainable construction development. Given that the construction sector is responsible for 40% of energy consumption and 36% of greenhouse emissions of the planet's carbon emissions, the authors address existing international and European policies to mitigate climate change and implement the circular economy for both new construction and renovation of existing ones. The paper summarizes the current targets of the Council of the European Union regarding "The Wave of Renovation" - "Fit for 55". At the same time, attention is paid to all actors involved in sustainable development in order to combat climate effects. In addition, the crisis elements facing humanity in recent times and how they influence the effort to save the planet are brought into focus. The work demonstrates that the international, European legislative framework is created, so that each component country must adapt its implementation, in order to meet the targets and deadlines established by the Council of Europe. The paper touches on a delicate topic, the durability of historical buildings, which from the point of view of international policies can be deepened and of course, will be customized at the level of each culture and nation

    The juice from wheat grass is called "green blood" and is an excellent detoxifying, facilitating the elimination of toxins and fats from body. In the form of fresh juice, it has high concentrations of chlorophyll, active enzymes, vitamins and other nutrients. The aim of this work was the development and characterization of a functional beverage from green wheat juice by adding apple and limes. The antioxidant capacity, vitamin C, polyphenols and flavonoids content were quantified by using spectrophotometry. The final product was pasteurized and evaluated by the content of bioactive compounds during storage at intervals of 7 and 14 days. During storage there were found slight decreases of the contents of bioactive compounds. The juice obtained has a sweet-sour taste, a unique flavor and a very pleasant smell. This product targets all categories of consumers and represents an ideal morning snack for those who are concerned about a healthy lifestyle

    O presente estudo pretendeu explorar o fenómeno do bullying homofóbico em Portugal relativamente à sua prevalência, consequências e formas de agressão. Mediante um questionário online, distribuído pelos núcleos locais da Associação rede ex aequo e preenchido por 184 estudantes, verificou­?se que, à semelhança de resultados internacionais, o recinto escolar é o local privilegiado para a ocorrência deste fenómeno. Os resultados indicam que prevalece a violência psicológica e a vitimização de rapazes; os comportamentos de agressão são desvalorizados; subsiste uma não intervenção nas situações presenciadas; existem consequências psicológicas significativas para as vítimas de bullying homofóbico, em comparação com as não­?vítimas.     Targeting the sympathetic nervous system with the selective imidazoline receptor agonist moxonidine for the management of hypertension: an international position statement

    Hypertension is often linked with metabolic risk factors that share common pathophysiological pathways. Despite wide-spread availability of multiple drug classes, optimal blood pressure (BP) control remains challenging. Increased central sympathetic outflow is frequently neglected as a critical regulator of both circulatory and metabolic pathways and often remains unopposed therapeutically. Selective imidazoline receptor agonists (SIRAs) effectively reduce BP with a favorable side effect profile compared with older centrally acting antihypertensive drugs. Hard outcome data in hypertension, such as prevention of stroke, heart and kidney diseases, are not available with SIRAs. However, in direct comparisons, SIRAs were as effective as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, β-blockers, calcium channel blockers, and diuretics in lowering BP. Other beneficial effects on metabolic parameters in hypertensive patients with concomitant overweight and obesity have been documented with SIRAs. Here we review the existing evidence on the safety and efficacy of moxonidine, a widely available SIRA, compared with common antihypertensive agents and provide a consensus position statement based on inputs from 12 experts from Europe and Australia on SIRAs in hypertension management

    Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome–associated Coronavirus in Lung Tissue

    Efforts to contain severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) have been limited by the lack of a standardized, sensitive, and specific test for SARS-associated coronavirus (CoV). We used a standardized reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction assay to detect SARS-CoV in lung samples obtained from well-characterized patients who died of SARS and from those who died of other reasons. SARS-CoV was detected in all 22 postmortem lung tissues (to 109 viral copies/g) from 11 patients with probable SARS but was not detected in any of the 23 lung control samples (sample analysis was blinded). The sensitivity and specificity (95% confidence interval) were 100% (84.6% to 100%) and 100% (85.1% to 100%), respectively. Viral loads were significantly associated with a shorter course of illness but not with the use of ribavirin or steroids. CoV was consistently identified in the lungs of all patients who died of SARS but not in control patients, supporting a primary role for CoV in deaths
