Modeling chronic pain experiences from online reports using the Reddit Reports of Chronic Pain dataset

Objective: Reveal and quantify qualities of reported experiences of chronic pain on social media, from multiple pathological backgrounds, by means of the novel Reddit Reports of Chronic Pain (RRCP) dataset, using Natural Language Processing techniques. Materials and Methods: Define and validate the RRCP dataset for a set of subreddits related to chronic pain. Identify the main concerns discussed in each subreddit. Model each subreddit according to their main concerns. Compare subreddit models. Results: The RRCP dataset comprises 86,537 Reddit submissions from 12 subreddits related to chronic pain (each related to one pathological background). Each RRCP subreddit has various main concerns. Some of these concerns are shared between multiple subreddits (e.g., the subreddit Sciatica semantically entails the subreddit backpain in their various concerns, but not the other way around), whilst some concerns are exclusive to specific subreddits (e.g., Interstitialcystitis and CrohnsDisease). Discussion: These results suggest that the reported experience of chronic pain, from multiple pathologies (i.e., subreddits), has concerns relevant to all, and concerns exclusive to certain pathologies. Our analysis details each of these concerns and their similarity relations. Conclusion: Although limited by intrinsic qualities of the Reddit platform, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first research work attempting to model the linguistic expression of various chronic pain-inducing pathologies and comparing these models to identify and quantify the similarities and differences between the corresponding emergent chronic pain experiences.Comment: 24 pages, 26 figures, 8 table

Introduction – Nowadays the high unemployment rate and the emigration of young graduated population is the reason why this population has been insecure about their career and professional future in their home country. By some way the existence of a reflexive analysis about their actual professional situation could clarify the future for students and recently-graduated in prosthetics and orthotics area. Objectives – Quantifying the professional situation of the graduated population in prosthetics and orthotics on Escola Superior de Tecnologia da SaĂșde de Lisboa (ESTeSL) and also create a reflection tool about future professional perspectives. Methodology – Application of a questionnaire through the platform LimeSurveyÂź to the universe of prosthetists and orthotists graduates in ESTeSL and characterize by the quantitative data. Results/Discussion – The majority of the graduates are young and females. 78.3% of the inquired are working on the prosthetics and orthotics area and the unemployment rate is 8.7%. It’s notice a geographical mobility to the district of Lisbon to study and to work. Conclusion – The unemployment rate in prosthetics and orthotics graduates is lower than the national average. In opposition with another graduated health groups, the National Health System is a minor employer of these population. It was noticed a desertification of the big urban centres, in what concerns to the first job and actual jo

Three triaza macrocyclic ligands, H6NOTP (1,4,7-triazacyclononane-N,Nâ€Č,N″-trimethylene phosphonic acid), H4NO2AP (1,4,7-triazacyclononane-N-methylenephosphonic acid-Nâ€Č,N″-dimethylenecarboxylic acid), and H5NOA2P (1,4,7-triazacyclononane-N,Nâ€Č-bis(methylenephosphonic acid)-N″-methylene carboxylic acid), and their gallium(III) chelates were studied in view of their potential interest as scintigraphic and PET (Positron Emission Tomography) imaging agents. A 1H, 31P and 71Ga multinuclear NMR study gave an insight on the structure, internal dynamics and stability of the chelates in aqueous solution. In particular, the analysis of 71Ga NMR spectra gave information on the symmetry of the Ga3+ coordination sphere and the stability of the chelates towards hydrolysis. The 31P NMR spectra afforded information on the protonation of the non-coordinated oxygen atoms from the pendant phosphonate groups and on the number of species in solution. The 1H NMR spectra allowed the analysis of the structure and the number of species in solution. 31P and 1H NMR titrations combined with potentiometry afforded the measurement of the protonation constants (log KHi) and the microscopic protonation scheme of the triaza macrocyclic ligands. The remarkably high thermodynamic stability constant (log KGaL =34.44 (0.04) and stepwise protonation constants of Ga (NOA2P)2− were determined by potentiometry and 69Ga and 31P NMR titrations. Biodistribution and gamma imaging studies have been performed on Wistar rats using the radiolabeled 67Ga(NO2AP)− and 67Ga (NOA2P)2−chelates, having both demonstrated to have renal excretion. The correlation of the molecular properties of the chelates with their pharmacokinetic properties has been analysed. The authors thank the financial support from the Fundação para a CiĂȘncia e Tecnologia (F.C.T., Portugal, projects RREQ/481/QUI/2006 and RECI/QEQ-QFI/0168/2012), the Rede Nacional de RMN (RNRMN), the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund (OTKA grants K-109029 and K-120224), the JĂĄnos Bolyai Research Scholarship (Gy.T.) of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the EU COST Action TD1004 “Theragnostics Imaging and Therapy”. Impact of cross-section uncertainties on supernova neutrino spectral parameter fitting in the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment

    Get PDF
A primary goal of the upcoming Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) is to measure the O(10)\mathcal{O}(10) MeV neutrinos produced by a Galactic core-collapse supernova if one should occur during the lifetime of the experiment. The liquid-argon-based detectors planned for DUNE are expected to be uniquely sensitive to the Îœe\nu_e component of the supernova flux, enabling a wide variety of physics and astrophysics measurements. A key requirement for a correct interpretation of these measurements is a good understanding of the energy-dependent total cross section σ(EÎœ)\sigma(E_\nu) for charged-current Îœe\nu_e absorption on argon. In the context of a simulated extraction of supernova Îœe\nu_e spectral parameters from a toy analysis, we investigate the impact of σ(EÎœ)\sigma(E_\nu) modeling uncertainties on DUNE's supernova neutrino physics sensitivity for the first time. We find that the currently large theoretical uncertainties on σ(EÎœ)\sigma(E_\nu) must be substantially reduced before the Îœe\nu_e flux parameters can be extracted reliably: in the absence of external constraints, a measurement of the integrated neutrino luminosity with less than 10\% bias with DUNE requires σ(EÎœ)\sigma(E_\nu) to be known to about 5%. The neutrino spectral shape parameters can be known to better than 10% for a 20% uncertainty on the cross-section scale, although they will be sensitive to uncertainties on the shape of σ(EÎœ)\sigma(E_\nu). A direct measurement of low-energy Îœe\nu_e-argon scattering would be invaluable for improving the theoretical precision to the needed level.Comment: 25 pages, 21 figure

Understanding how malnutrition contributes to depression is building momentum. In the present study we unravel molecular and cellular mechanisms by which nutritional disturbances lead to impaired emotional behaviour in mice. Here we report that nutritional n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) deficiency induces a chronic stress state reflected by disrupted glucocorticoid receptor (GR)-mediated signalling pathway along with hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis hyperactivity. This hyperactivity in turn resulted in neuronal atrophy in the dorsolateral (dl)- and dorsomedial (dm)- prefrontal cortex (PFC) and subsequent mood-related behaviour alterations, similarly to chronic social defeat stress. Supplementation of n-3 PUFA prevented detrimental chronic social defeat stress-induced emotional and neuronal impairments by impeding HPA axis hyperactivity. These results indicate a role for dietary n-3 PUFA in the prevention of HPA axis dysfunction associated with the development of some neuropsychiatric disorders including depression.DĂ©pression et Nutritio

Highly-parallelized simulation of a pixelated LArTPC on a GPU

The rapid development of general-purpose computing on graphics processing units (GPGPU) is allowing the implementation of highly-parallelized Monte Carlo simulation chains for particle physics experiments. This technique is particularly suitable for the simulation of a pixelated charge readout for time projection chambers, given the large number of channels that this technology employs. Here we present the first implementation of a full microphysical simulator of a liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) equipped with light readout and pixelated charge readout, developed for the DUNE Near Detector. The software is implemented with an end-to-end set of GPU-optimized algorithms. The algorithms have been written in Python and translated into CUDA kernels using Numba, a just-in-time compiler for a subset of Python and NumPy instructions. The GPU implementation achieves a speed up of four orders of magnitude compared with the equivalent CPU version. The simulation of the current induced on 10^3 pixels takes around 1 ms on the GPU, compared with approximately 10 s on the CPU. The results of the simulation are compared against data from a pixel-readout LArTPC prototype
