    Pomeron fan diagrams in perturbative QCD

    Within QCD reggeon field theory we study the formation of two subsequent triple pomeron vertices in the process P→\toPP→\toPPP. We make use of an earlier investigation ~\cite{Bartels:1999aw} of the six-reggeon amplitude in deep inelastic scattering and show that in the large-NcN_c limit pomeron fan diagrams emerge with the same triple pomeron vertex in all places. We thus confirm the BK-equation, but we also find additional terms related to the reggeization of the gluon, and we discuss their potential significance. Our analysis also includes the general pomeron →\to two odderon vertex: a particular version of this vertex has been included into earlier generalizations the BK equation.Comment: 22 pages, 10 figure

    Radially extending rotor blades are disposed on a hub to form a supersonic propulsion fan for a turbofan engine. The peripheral spacing of the blades is such as to avoid forming a channel or passageway between adjacent blades. Each has a flat trailing surface extending from the leading edge at least as far to the rear as to cause any pressure waves which might originate on the blade surface to strike the leading surface of the following blade rather than propagate upstream of the blade row. The flat trailing surface of each blade makes an angle with the axis of rotation such that the blade is parallel to a gas inflow into the blades

    A comparative study of several bootstrap-based tests for the volatility in continuous-time diffusion models

    This article develops three bootstrap-based tests for a parametric form of volatil- ity function in continuous-time diffusion models. The three tests are the generalized likelihood ratio test by Fan et al. (Ann Stat 29(1):153–193, 2001), the nonparamet- ric kernel test (LWZ) by Li and Wang (J Econometrics 87(1):145–165, 1998) and Zheng (J Econ 75(2):263–289, 1996) and the nonparametric test (CHS) by Chen et al. (2017). Monte Carlo simulations are performed to evaluate the sizes and power properties of these bootstrap-based tests in finite samples over a range of bandwidth values. We find that the bootstrap-based tests are not influenced by prior restrictions on the functional form of the drift function and that the bootstrap-based CHS test has better power performance than the bootstrap-based GLR and LWZ tests in detect- ing a parametric form of volatility. An empirical study on weekly treasury bill rate is further conducted to demonstrate these bootstrap-based test procedures.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Turbofan engine noise research relevant to conventional aircraft is discussed. In the area of fan noise, static to flight noise differences were discussed and data were presented for two different ways of simulating flight behavior. Experimental results from a swept rotor fan design are presented which show that this concept has potential for reducing the multiple-pure-tone or buzz-saw noise related to the shock waves on a fan operating at supersonic tip speeds. Acoustic suppressor research objectives centered around the effect of the wave system generated by the fan stage that is the input to the treatment. A simplifying and unifying parameter, mode cutoff ratio was described. Results are presented which show that suppressor performance can be improved if the input wave is more precisely described. In jet noise, calculated results showing the potential noise reduction from the use of internal mixer nozzles rather than separate flow nozzles are presented

    Building on recent findings in the field of fan fiction studies, I claim that Pamela Aidan’s Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman is indirectly influenced by three cultural phenomena which centre around Jane Austen and her work. Aidan’s fan fiction text stays close to the spirit of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice because she “reimagines” the novel according to the interpretive conventions of the Republic of Pemberley, a fan community. These conventions demand respect for Austen and her novels because they are shaped by the broader, cultural conventions of Janeitism and Austen criticism. Similarly, Aidan’s text is more individualistic and “Harlequinesque” than Austen’s novel, because the Republic allows writers to reproduce the cultural reading which underlies BBC / A&E’s adaptation of Austen’s novel

    This article examines the enduring popularity of Back to the Future (Robert Zemeckis, 1985) and its status as an emergent cult blockbuster for a new generation of fans. It draws on the findings of a small-scale audience survey conducted at a one-off screening of the film at Aberystwyth Arts Centre in early February 2012, where it was part of the University’s cult film club programme. The responses to the survey are contextualised by examples of fan practices found online; these indicate some of the additional ways in which a continued affection for Back to the Future is expressed by its followers. From these sources, two audience-led approaches are developed as a means to investigate on-going fandom of Back to the Future. The first of these is an exploration of the nature and value of fan nostalgia expressed towards Back to the Future and other “classic” popular culture texts of the eighties.2 This includes an examination of the kinds of nostalgia that are articulated by fans towards films that were released before they were born, and takes Barbara Klinger’s work on the practice of re-watching films as a starting point (2006). The second approach considers the popular acting partnership of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, and draws on the emergent academic study of cult stardom and performance (Mathijs and Sexton 2011; Egan and Thomas 2013). Through an exploration of these two audience-led approaches, I consider whether it is possible to observe an on-going process of cultification in relation to the Back to the Future franchise in a number of significant ways
