The Hijab and the Sari: The Strange and the Sexy between Colonialism and Global Capitalism

    Get PDF
By exploring the “Western” reception of the sari in comparison to the hijab, I hope to illuminate the racial aesthetic that is at work in vilifying the latter while glorifying the former. The history of colonialism and the forced domestication of the sari help to facilitate its reception as an acceptably “sexy” garment. By contrast, the hijab has not been subjected to colonial modification. It has remained unmodified, and is still experienced as culturally, racially, and aesthetically strange by observers. In order to explore the role that political and cultural authority plays in shaping “acceptable” and “unacceptable” racial aesthetics as linked to the hijab and the sari, I will explore the regulation of the sari and explore the sartorial strategies enacted by Mohandas Gandhi in his political resistance to British rule over India. Finally, I will draw on the prior analysis to highlight the contrast between the acceptability of the colonially domesticated sari in contemporary society and the hostility that the as-yet still undomesticated hijab incurs in contemporary society

Analysis of thermal properties of phase change materials (PCM) using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC)

    Get PDF
Commercially available PCM RT 20, RT 27, SP 22, A17 and SP 25 A8. Were analyzed using dynamic and step method of heat flux DSC. The results of the dinamic and step method were compared with commercial valures. It was found that RT 20 & RT 27 showed good conforming of results with commercial values while SP 22 A17 & SP 25 A8 did not show conformity

Synthesis and biological evaluation of azetidinone derivatives with pyrazolone moiety

    Get PDF
A Schiff base has been prepared by the reaction of 4-acetyl-5-methyl-2-(4-methylphenyl)-2,4-dihydro-3H-pyrazole-3-one with different substituted amines. Treatment of this Schiff base with chlorobactyl chloride affords the corresponding azetidinone in good yield. All the new compounds have been characterized by IR, 1H NMR, GC-MS and elemental analysis. The antibacterial activity of these compounds has been determined with the reference of standard drug

Comparative Analysis of Different Trust Metrics of User-User Trust-Based Recommendation System

    Get PDF
Information overload is the biggest challenge nowadays for any website, especially e-commerce websites. However, this challenge arises for the fast growth of information on the web (WWW) with easy access to the internet. Collaborative filtering based recommender system is the most useful application to solve the information overload problem by filtering relevant information for the users according to their interests. But, the existing system faces some significant limitations such as data sparsity, low accuracy, cold-start, and malicious attacks. To alleviate the mentioned issues, the relationship of trust incorporates in the system where it can be between the users or items, and such system is known as the trust-based recommender system (TBRS). From the user perspective, the motive of the TBRS is to utilize the reliability between the users to generate more accurate and trusted recommendations. However, the study aims to present a comparative analysis of different trust metrics in the context of the type of trust definition of TBRS. Also, the study accomplishes twenty-four trust metrics in terms of the methodology, trust properties \& measurement, validation approaches, and the experimented dataset

Study Of Impact Of Diet And Lifestyle Factors On Prevalence Of Gastric Cancer

    Get PDF
The second most frequent cancer worldwide and the second greatest cause of cancer-related death is gastric cancer. However, the incidence rates in various geographical areas vary significantly. While the prevalence of stomach cancer has been declining, there are reports that in some areas, the prevalence of gastric cardia cancer is increasing. Infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a significant contributor to the development of non-cardia gastric cancer, and evidence has been gathered supporting the primary prevention of gastric cancer by the elimination of H. pylori. Additionally implicated are metabolic, dietary, and behavioral variables. Although addressing these additional factors may improve health, it is uncertain how doing so will actually affect cancer prevention. Anatomically, gastric adenocarcinomas and gastro-esophageal junction adenocarcinomas are distinguished, and histologically, different usage and intestine kinds are distinguished. Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection and dietary variables are the primary risk factors for distal gastric cancer, but obesity and gastroesophageal reflux syndrome are significant contributors to the development of proximal stomach cancer. Eliminating H. pylori is a crucial primary prevention measure for stomach cancer. A healthy lifestyle will help avoid stomach cancer. This includes cutting back on red meat and salted and smoked foods, increasing the number of fruits and vegetables in your diet, quitting smoking, and reducing your alcohol use. The review article focuses on mainly the impact of different dietary factors on the incidence of gastric cancer
