The Switched Local Area Networks’ Delay Problem: Issues and a Deterministic Solution Approach

    Get PDF
A large number of installed local area networks are sluggish in terms of speed of uploading and down- loading of information. Researchers have, therefore, proposed the need for such networks to be designed with specified maximum end-to-end delay. This is because, if the maximum packet delay between any two nodes of a network is not known, it is impossible to provide a deterministic guarantee of worst case response times of packets’ flows. Therefore, the need for analytic and formal basis for designing such networks becomes very imperative. In this regard, this chapter has discussed the switched local area networks’ delay problem and related issues. It compared the two principal approaches for determining the end-to-end response times of flows in communication networks – stochastic approach and determin- istic approach. The chapter goes on to demonstrate the superiority of the latter approach by using it to develop and validate the goodness of a general maximum delay packet switch model

Radiative corrections to the Triple Higgs Coupling in the Inert Higgs Doublet Model

    Get PDF
We investigate the implication of the recent discovery of a Higgs-like particle in the first phase of the LHC Run 1 on the Inert Higgs Doublet Model (IHDM). The determination of the Higgs couplings to SM particles and its intrinsic properties will get improved during the new LHC Run 2 starting this year. The new LHC Run 2 would also shade some light on the triple Higgs coupling. Such measurement is very important in order to establish the details of the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism. Given the importance of the Higgs couplings both at the LHC and e+e−e^+e^- Linear Collider machines, accurate theoretical predictions are required. We study the radiative corrections to the triple Higgs coupling hhhhhh and to hZZhZZ, hWWhWW couplings in the context of the IHDM. By combining several theoretical and experimental constraints on parameter space, we show that extra particles might modify the triple Higgs coupling near threshold regions. Finally, we discuss the effect of these corrections on the double Higgs production signal at the e+e−e^+e^- LC and show that they can be rather important.Comment: 25 pages, 10 figure

Revisiting one-loop corrections to the trilinear Higgs boson self-coupling in the Inert Doublet Model

We investigate predictions of the trilinear Higgs self-coupling with radiative corrections in the context of the Inert Doublet Model. The triple Higgs vertex is computed at the one-loop level based on the on-shell renormalization scheme. We calculate its possible deviation from the predictions within the standard model, taking into account all relevant theoretical and experimental constraints, including dark matter searches and the latest bounds on the branching fraction of the Higgs boson decaying to invisible particles. By scanning the model's parameter space, we find that the deviation in the triple Higgs boson self-coupling from standard model expectations can be substantial, exceeding 100\% in certain regions of the parameter space.Comment: 19 pages, 3 figures, minor clarifications adde

Performance of Some Durum Wheat Varieties at Kadawa, Kano State of Nigeria

A two-year trial was conducted during the 2001/02 and 2002/03 dry seasons at Kadawa (lat. 110 39'N, long. 080 27'E and 500 m above sea level) to evaluate the performance of twelve durum wheat varieties. The varieties were laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The results revealed that plant height of wheat was influenced by variety in 2002/03 season only while number of tillers/plant, number of grains/spike, grain weight/spike/ 1000-grain weight and grain yield were significantly affected in both seasons. Variety Tody-6 and Anser-8 outyielded the other varieties in 2001/02 and 2002/03, respectively. Thus, the two varieties could be selected for higher yields of durum wheat in the study area. Attention Visualizer Package: Revealing Word Importance for Deeper Insight into Encoder-Only Transformer Models

This report introduces the Attention Visualizer package, which is crafted to visually illustrate the significance of individual words in encoder-only transformer-based models. In contrast to other methods that center on tokens and self-attention scores, our approach will examine the words and their impact on the final embedding representation. Libraries like this play a crucial role in enhancing the interpretability and explainability of neural networks. They offer the opportunity to illuminate their internal mechanisms, providing a better understanding of how they operate and can be enhanced. Objectives: Oral Squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is primarily a disease that mainly occurs in males in their sixth and seventh decades of life and is rare in young adults. Study Design: In this retrospective study, records of patients under the age of 40, with the diagnosis of OSCC in the Oral Medicine Department of Mashhad Dental Faculty during the past 13 years were analyzed. Their socioeconomic data, demographic, clinical and histopathological characteristics, risk factors, familial history were assessed and applicable studies and case reports in the literatures were reviewed. PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) analysis was also done for detection of human papilloma virus (HPV). Results: From 158 cases of OSCC diagnosed in our centre, 21 patients were younger than 40 years. Most of them were young men (12 cases). There was no significant risk factor in this group. The most common site of involvement was the tongue. The most common clinical presentation was exophytic lesion with ulcer. No HPV DNA was detected in these patients. Conclusion: Characteristics of OSCC in young patients are different from older age group. Major risk factors (smoking and alcohol consumption and HPV) were not etiologic factors for OSCC in young patients in our province. © Medicina Oral S. L
