The Four-C Framework for High Capacity Ultra-Low Latency in 5G Networks: A Review

    Get PDF
Network latency will be a critical performance metric for the Fifth Generation (5G) networks expected to be fully rolled out in 2020 through the IMT-2020 project. The multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) technology is a key enabler for the 5G massive connectivity criterion, especially from the massive densification perspective. Naturally, it appears that 5G MU-MIMO will face a daunting task to achieve an end-to-end 1 ms ultra-low latency budget if traditional network set-ups criteria are strictly adhered to. Moreover, 5G latency will have added dimensions of scalability and flexibility compared to prior existing deployed technologies. The scalability dimension caters for meeting rapid demand as new applications evolve. While flexibility complements the scalability dimension by investigating novel non-stacked protocol architecture. The goal of this review paper is to deploy ultra-low latency reduction framework for 5G communications considering flexibility and scalability. The Four (4) C framework consisting of cost, complexity, cross-layer and computing is hereby analyzed and discussed. The Four (4) C framework discusses several emerging new technologies of software defined network (SDN), network function virtualization (NFV) and fog networking. This review paper will contribute significantly towards the future implementation of flexible and high capacity ultra-low latency 5G communications

Applications that use vowel phonemes require a high degree of vowel recognition capability. The performance of speech recognition application under adverse noisy conditions often becomes the topic of interest among speech recognition researchers regardless of the languages in use. In Malaysia, there are an increasing number of speech recognition researchers focusing on developing independent speaker speech recognition systems that use the Malay language which is noise robust and accurate. This paper present a study of noise robust capability of an improved vowel feature extraction method called First Formant Bandwidth (F1BW).The features are extracted from both original data and noise-added data and classified using three classifiers; (i) Multinomial Logistic Regression (MLR), (ii) K-Nearest Neighbors (K-NN) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA).The results show that the proposed F1BW is robust towards noise and LDA performs the best in overall vowel classification compared to MLR and K-NN in terms of robustness capability, especially with signal-to-noise (SNR) above 20dB

Ferns are traditionally consumed as vegetables and used to prevent or cure various ailments as they have a few medicinal properties including antioxidant activity. However, little is known on ferns in Long Banga, Sarawak such as Calymmodon clavifer, Hymenophyllum acanthoides, and Oleandra pistillaris especially on their medicinal properties. Thus, the study study is carried out to evaluate the antioxidant activity of crude extracts of Calymmodon clavifer, Hymenophyllum acanthoides and Oleandra pistillaris collected in Long Banga, Sarawak. All crude methanolic extracst were subjected to 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) antioxidant assay. Total phenolic and total flavanoid content were also determined for phytochemical analysis. DPPH antioxidant test of all extracts showed that H. acanthoides gave the significant EC50 value 0.030 mg/ml in comparison to the EC50 value of the standard used, Trolox 0.035 mg/ml. Furthermore, phytochemical analysis showed higher total phenolic and total flavonoid content in the crude extract of H. acanthoides with the values of 304.81 ± 0.47 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g and 231.09 ± 0.91 mg catechin equivalents (CE)/g, respectively supporting the high antioxidant activity of H. acanthoides from DPPH test. Therefore, ferns collected in Long Banga, Sarawak shows promising potential as antioxidant agents to be used as alternative approach in therapeutic applications or preventions

A case study of improved PEO assessments in the electrical, electronic and systems engineering program at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia

    Get PDF
Program educational objectives (PEOs) encompass a collection of statements that outline the knowledge, proficiencies, and competencies that graduates of a program should possess. PEO assessments are conducted for the purpose of evaluating the degree to which students have attained these objectives. However, the current assessment methods are not comprehensive and do not provide sufficient data to determine whether graduates are achieving the intended outcomes of the program. As a result, the program may not have sufficient data to provide informed decisions about curriculum development and student support services. This study provides an examination of the recently implemented Program Educational Objectives (PEO) evaluations within the undergraduate program of Electrical, Electronic and Systems Engineering, at the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This study examines the difficulties encountered during the development and execution of direct and indirect PEO evaluations, along with the measures undertaken to enhance these assessments. It also includes a quantitative analysis of the findings generated from the newly implemented PEO assessment questionnaires. The study concludes by providing a discussion of the advantages associated with enhancing PEO assessments, as well as the potential usage for other engineering programs within the faculty

Approximating of functions from holder classes Hα [0, 1] by haar wavelets

    Get PDF
In the present work, a new direct computational method for solving definite integrals based on Haar wavelets is introduced. The definite integral of the functions from Holder classes is replaced with the approximation of the function by Haar wavelets and the the calculation of definite integrals is reduced to the problem of solving algebraic equation formed by the Fourier coefficients in terms of Haar wavelets. Based on the properties of the Haar wavelets it is shown that the such approximations much better approximate the value of the integrals for the functions from Holder classes. The Error analysis of the approximation method are worked out in the classes of Holder to show the efficiency of the new method and connection of the module of difference with smoothness of the function is established. Finally, some numerical examples of the implementation the method for the functions from Holder classes are presented

    Get PDF
Knowledge of the molecular mechanisms of response to environmental stress is fundamental for the development of genetically stress-tolerant crops. This study aims to find vegetable soybean accessions tolerant to cultivation in stressful tropical environments. Fourteen accessions of the vegetable soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) were grown in mineral and beach ridges interspersed with swale (BRIS) soils. The genetic diversity, estimated using inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers, revealed 42.50% polymorphism and was regarded as moderate. The unweighted pairgroup method arithmetic average (UPGMA) analysis allocated the tested accessions into five major clusters at a similarity coefficient level of 0.43. The lowest values of the genetic distance were between IIUMSOY11 and IIUMSOY13 & IIUMSOY13 and IIUMSOY14, indicating that these accessions were more genetically distant from the other accessions. Ten differentially expressed proteins were identified in the three selected accessions IIUMSOY1, IIUMSOY11 and IIUMSOY14 using mass spectrometry, revealing a unique expression of the proteins involved in the storage, flavonoid metabolism, protein modification, oxidative stress defence, carbohydrate metabolism and respiratory chain. The findings may be valuable for the selection of genetically diverse accessions, to enhance the breeding of vegetable soybean genotypes suitable for stressful tropical environments
