Comparison between the AFNOR Method and the Imposition of Balanced Maximum Specific Sliding in the Imposed Centre Distance Problem

    Get PDF
Successive editions of Henriot’s treatise on gears, and an AFNOR document, present an approximate procedure for the choice of profile shift values for the pinion and wheel when a center distance value is imposed in a cylindrical gear pair. That procedure aims at achieving an approximate balancing of the maximum specific sliding values of the pinion and of the wheel. The method involves a loosely defined choice of an auxiliary parameter, but no information is available relating this choice with the level of attainment of the intended balancing of maximum specific sliding values. This assessment, if needed, requires a subsequent analysis for verification. Since no information is available evaluating the procedure, the purpose of this work is to provide a thorough rigorous analysis of the method, highlighting its qualities but also its shortcomings

Ingestive Behaviour of Steers in Native Pastures in Southern Brazil

The Campos biome, particularly its native pastures, is the main resource for livestock production in southern Brazil (Boldrini, 1997). It has a huge floristic diversity in which more than 400 grass and 150 legume species are found. These pastures are very heterogeneous with horizontal as well as vertical structure. Hodgson (1985) stressed the importance of sward structure upon diet selection, emphasizing the difficulties animals could have to access all pasture layers in temperate pastures. This experiment investigates how variation in herbage allowance along the growing season influences the ingestive behaviour of steers

SMART: An Application Framework for Real Time Big Data Analysis on Heterogeneous Cloud Environments

International audienceThe amount of data that human activities generate poses a challenge to current computer systems. Big data processing techniques are evolving to address this challenge, with analysis increasingly being performed using cloud-based systems. Emerging services, however, require additional enhancements in order to ensure their applicability to highly dynamic and heterogeneous environments and facilitate their use by Small & Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). Observing this landscape in emerging computing system development, this work presents Small & Medium-sized Enterprise Data Analytic in Real Time (SMART) for addressing some of the issues in providing compute service solutions for SMEs. SMART offers a framework for efficient development of Big Data analysis services suitable to small and medium-sized organizations, considering very heterogeneous data sources, from wireless sensor networks to data warehouses, focusing on service composability for a number of domains. This paper presents the basis of this proposal and preliminary results on exploring application deployment on hybrid infrastructure

The Effects of \u3cem\u3eTithonia diversifolia\u3c/em\u3e on Dairy Cow Performance

Southeast, South and Central West are the main milk producing regions in the Brazil. Especially in the states of Minas Gerais, Goias and Sao Paulo, the tropical climate is very characteristic, with hot and rainy summers, and dry winters. Dry winters in these states are characterized by scarcity of pasture herbage mass, which directly influence the volume of milk produced. The high volume of milk produced in summer and low volume of milk produced in winter (i.e. seasonality of production which is about 20% of total milk volume) directly affects dairy farmers by reducing its revenue during dry winters due to a drop in milk yield. In addition, it increases the production costs by offering additional roughage supplements to the cattle (sugarcane fresh plus urea, corn silage or sorghum silage), or by feeding more concentrates and/or greater labour costs. Research evaluating the potential of the Tithonia diversifolia in improving milk yield and quality is extremely limited. This research project seeks to develop tools to understand the potential impact on milk composition and cow performance and to evaluate the significance of its outcomes and to aid in the ongoing development of innovative approaches. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of replacing up to 9.1% of sugarcane fresh and up to 6.3% of concentrates (DM basis) with Tithonia diversifolia fresh fed to lactating dairy cows. It is hypothesized that the initial replacement of a portion of the sugarcane fresh and concentrates (corn grain and soybean meal) with the Tithonia diversifolia fresh would not reduce dairy cow performance
