The singular behavior of massive QCD amplitudes
We discuss the structure of infrared singularities in on-shell QCD amplitudes
with massive partons and present a general factorization formula in the limit
of small parton masses. The factorization formula gives rise to an all-order
exponentiation of both, the soft poles in dimensional regularization and the
large collinear logarithms of the parton masses. Moreover, it provides a
universal relation between any on-shell amplitude with massive external partons
and its corresponding massless amplitude. For the form factor of a heavy quark
we present explicit results including the fixed-order expansion up to three
loops in the small mass limit. For general scattering processes we show how our
constructive method applies to the computation of all singularities as well as
the constant (mass-independent) terms of a generic massive n-parton QCD
amplitude up to the next-to-next-to-leading order corrections.Comment: version to appear in JHEP (sec. 3 with expanded discussion and

Multimodal augmented reality tangible gaming
This paper presents tangible augmented reality gaming environment that can be used to enhance entertainment using a multimodal tracking interface. Players can interact using different combinations between a pinch glove, a Wiimote, a six-degrees-of-freedom tracker, through tangible ways as well as through I/O controls. Two tabletop augmented reality games have been designed and implemented including a racing game and a pile game. The goal of the augmented reality racing game is to start the car and move around the track without colliding with either the wall or the objects that exist in the gaming arena. Initial evaluation results showed that multimodal-based interaction games can be beneficial in gaming. Based on these results, an augmented reality pile game was implemented with goal of completing a circuit of pipes (from a starting point to an end point on a grid). Initial evaluation showed that tangible interaction is preferred to keyboard interaction and that tangible games are much more enjoyable
Two-Loop Helicity Amplitudes for Quark-Quark Scattering in QCD and Gluino-Gluino Scattering in Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory
We present the two-loop QCD helicity amplitudes for quark-quark and
quark-antiquark scattering. These amplitudes are relevant for
next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to (polarized) jet production at
hadron colliders. We give the results in the `t Hooft-Veltman and
four-dimensional helicity (FDH) variants of dimensional regularization and
present the scheme dependence of the results. We verify that the finite
remainder, after subtracting the divergences using Catani's formula, are in
agreement with previous results. We also provide the amplitudes for
gluino-gluino scattering in pure N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We
describe ambiguities in continuing the Dirac algebra to D dimensions, including
ones which violate fermion helicity conservation. The finite remainders after
subtracting the divergences using Catani's formula, which enter into physical
quantities, are free of these ambiguities. We show that in the FDH scheme, for
gluino-gluino scattering, the finite remainders satisfy the expected

Indirect search for dark matter: prospects for GLAST
Possible indirect detection of neutralino, through its gamma-ray annihilation
product, by the forthcoming GLAST satellite from our galactic halo, M31, M87
and the dwarf galaxies Draco and Sagittarius is studied. Gamma-ray fluxes are
evaluated for the two representative energy thresholds, 0.1 GeV and 1.0 GeV, at
which the spatial resolution of GLAST varies considerably. Apart from dwarfs
which are described either by a modified Plummer profile or by a
tidally-truncated King profiles, fluxes are compared for halos with central
cusps and cores. It is demonstrated that substructures, irrespective of their
profiles, enhance the gamma-ray emission only marginally. The expected
gamma-ray intensity above 1 GeV at high galactic latitudes is consistent with
the residual emission derived from EGRET data if the density profile has a
central core and the neutralino mass is less than 50 GeV, whereas for a central
cusp only a substantial enhancement would explain the observations. From M31,
the flux can be detected above 0.1 GeV and 1.0 GeV by GLAST only if the
neutralino mass is below 300 GeV and if the density profile has a central cusp,
case in which a significant boost in the gamma-ray emission is produced by the
central black hole. For Sagittarius, the flux above 0.1 GeV is detectable by
GLAST provided the neutralino mass is below 50 GeV. From M87 and Draco the

Contraints on unified models for dark matter and dark energy using H(z)
The differential age data of astrophysical objects that have evolved
passivelly during the history of the universe (e.g. red galaxies) allows to
test theoretical cosmological models through the predicted Hubble function
expressed in terms of the redshift , . We use the observational data
for to test unified scenarios for dark matter and dark energy.
Specifically, we focus our analysis on the Generalized Chaplygin Gas (GCG) and
the viscous fluid (VF) models. For the GCG model, it is shown that the unified
scenario for dark energy and dark matter requires some priors. For the VF model
we obtain estimations for the free parameters that may be compared with further

We present the two-loop QCD helicity amplitudes for quark-gluon scattering,
and for quark-antiquark annihilation into two gluons. These amplitudes are
relevant for next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to (polarized) jet

transition rules for converting the amplitudes between the different variants
are much more intricate than for the previously discussed case of gluon-gluon
scattering. Summing our two-loop expressions over helicities and colors, and
converting to conventional dimensional regularization, gives results in
complete agreement with those of Anastasiou, Glover, Oleari and Tejeda-Yeomans.

Yang-Mills theory, obtained from the QCD amplitudes by modifying the color
representation and multiplicities, and verify supersymmetry Ward identities in

Soil biochemistry and microbial activity in vineyards under conventional and organic management at Northeast Brazil.
The São Francisco Submedium Valley is located at the Brazilian semiarid region and is an important center for irrigated fruit growing. This region is responsible for 97% of the national exportation of table grapes, including seedless grapes. Based on the fact that organic fertilization can improve soil quality, we compared the effects of conventional and organic soil management on microbial activity and mycorrhization of seedless grape crops. We measured glomerospores number, most probable number (MPN) of propagules, richness of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) species, AMF root colonization, EE-BRSP production, carbon microbial biomass (C-MB), microbial respiration, fluorescein diacetate hydrolytic activity (FDA) and metabolic coefficient (qCO2). The organic management led to an increase in all variables with the exception of EE-BRSP and qCO2. Mycorrhizal colonization increased from 4.7% in conventional crops to 15.9% in organic crops. Spore number ranged from 4.1 to 12.4 per 50 g-1 soil in both management systems. The most probable number of AMF propagules increased from 79 cm-3 soil in the conventional system to 110 cm-3 soil in the organic system. Microbial carbon, CO2 emission, and FDA activity were increased by 100 to 200% in the organic crop. Thirteen species of AMF were identified, the majority in the organic cultivation system. Acaulospora excavata, Entrophospora infrequens, Glomus sp.3 and Scutellospora sp. were found only in the organically managed crop. S. gregaria was found only in the conventional crop. Organically managed vineyards increased mycorrhization and general soil microbial activity
The CAT Imaging Telescope for Very-High-Energy Gamma-Ray Astronomy
The CAT (Cherenkov Array at Themis) imaging telescope, equipped with a
very-high-definition camera (546 fast phototubes with 0.12 degrees spacing
surrounded by 54 larger tubes in two guard rings) started operation in Autumn
1996 on the site of the former solar plant Themis (France). Using the
atmospheric Cherenkov technique, it detects and identifies very high energy
gamma-rays in the range 250 GeV to a few tens of TeV. The instrument, which has
detected three sources (Crab nebula, Mrk 421 and Mrk 501), is described in
