Jean Rouch e a invenção do Outro no documentário
In 1954, Jean Rouch, who at the time was studying the migrationsystem in West Africa, invited three Nigerian friends - Lam, Illo and Damouré - to undertake an excursion up to the Gold Cost (presently Gana) the same way as thousand of young men did during the drought months. Rouch filmed that experience, mixing documentary with fiction, thereby introducing a whole new element in the relation movie maker/observed citizens. In fact, until then thesesubjects were under the gaze of the camera and urged to show aspects of their reality in the most natural possible way. In contrast, in Jaguar, the film resulting from the afore mentioned experience, Rouch shows subjects who constructed themselves through the fílmic record and act upon a likewise constructed reality. In this way, he sought an "induced-truth", an expression he used to define the procedure through which the freedom he gave to the characters to create orto create themselves could lead to the truth of the film. The aim of this article is to reflect on this procedure and its unfolding in the field of contemporary documentary
Narcissus's new mirrors and what Alice has found after crossing some of them
É sobre as idiossincrasias desse fenômeno que este artigo vai se debruçar23113Nowadays, a number of films featuring individual fights, personal dramas, and existential conflicts have gained momentum in the documentary film front. Perhaps as a symptom of the self’s overestimation, collectivism has lost more and more territory to individualism in those films. This article is about the idiosyncrasies of such a phenomeno
The present article intends to set light on the movies that were part of the so called Caravana Farkas (Farkas Caravan), searching them for a set of homologies with the direct and vérité cinemas. We have focus on identifying the distinguishing aspects of such movies taking in the whole of Brazilian documentary history, since both direct cinema and vérité cinema were born almost simultaneously in France, in the United States and in Canada related to the names of Jean Rouch; Maysles brothers, Leacock e Pennebaker; and Michel Brault, respectively. From this perspective, then, we consider the moments that approximate or distance us from possibly considering the Caravana Farkas movies as belonging to such movements in Brazil
Cine-I, or how the world started revolving around me
With the disintegration of values which served as references to human development and welfare in the world, one may have found themselves ideologically confused, adrift in their convictions and unsure about their role in society. Thereby, as an echo of this state of affairs, more and more personal micro-stories and dramas have been thriving in the context of contemporary documentary film. This phenomenon can occasionally amplify or reflect upon wider social or historical processes. With the disintegration of values which served as references to human development and welfare in the world, one may have found themselves ideologically confused, adrift in their convictions and unsure about their role in society. With the disintegration of values which served as references to human development and welfare in the world, one may have found themselves ideologically confused, adrift in their convictions and unsure about their role in society.
Contemporaneous, documentary filmmakers who have had on the “Other” the points of departure and arrival of their works, Perrault and Rouch go to the encounter of Flaherty each one in their own way. Shared anthropology, anthropology of memory, in both, mise-en-scène of gesture and word. This paper intents to analyze, from some of their films and in the light of the precepts of filmic anthropology, the strategies of mise-en-scène of the two filmmakers seeking to identify the distinctive features that anchor them in the historic world

In this way, he sought an "induced-truth", an expression he used to define the
procedure through which the freedom he gave to the characters to create or

is to reflect on this procedure and its unfolding in the field of contemporary documentary.
Rouch a

do filme.

Relations, encounters and reciprocity: reflections about ethics in contemporary
Relations, encounters and reciprocity: reflections about ethics in contemporary documentary
cinema — One of the most noteworthy features of documentary cinema is its ability to deal with the other, to have otherness at the core of its construction. Underlying this is the event without which a movie does not exist: the encounter between the filmmaker and the people he films. Any appreciation of the conditions in which this encounter takes place must be based primarily on the assumption that the person holding the camera wields unquestionable
power over those targeted by the camera’s viewfinder. This power is always present, independently of the procedures involved in sharing it, which have been in fashion for some time — such as distributing cameras to the subjects under observation, or the much older “shared anthropology” of Jean Rouch, in which the film takes shape by returning the recorded images of the filmed people to them and by means of the dialogue between them and the filmmaker. This is because the final edition of the film is almost entirely in the hands of the filmmaker. We focus here on this “rapport de force” and its unfoldings, and on its underlying ethical and esthetic aspects
A questão do autor do cinema documentário
It is known that “Politique des auteurs”, or “Author Théorie” as it was named by Andrew Sarris when he brought it to the USA, was conceived and had its evolution starting from the commercial fiction film, and was not concerned about other cinematographic practices as documentary film. This articles aims to throw some light on this subject.
