Measurement of the Spin Structure of the Deuteron in the DIS Region
We present a new measurement of the longitudinal spin asymmetry A_1^d and the
spin-dependent structure function g_1^d of the deuteron in the range 1 GeV^2 <
Q^2 < 100 GeV^2 and 0.004< x <0.7. The data were obtained by the COMPASS
experiment at CERN using a 160 GeV polarised muon beam and a large polarised
6-LiD target. The results are in agreement with those from previous experiments
and improve considerably the statistical accuracy in the region 0.004 < x <

First Measurement of the Transverse Spin Asymmetries of the Deuteron in Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering
First measurements of the Collins and Sivers asymmetries of charged hadrons
produced in deep-inelastic scattering of muons on a transversely polarized
6-LiD target are presented. The data were taken in 2002 with the COMPASS
spectrometer using the muon beam of the CERN SPS at 160 GeV/c. The Collins
asymmetry turns out to be compatible with zero, as does the measured Sivers
asymmetry within the present statistical errors.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figure
Spin asymmetry A_1^d and the spin-dependent structure function g_1^d of the deuteron at low values of x and Q^2
We present a precise measurement of the deuteron longitudinal spin asymmetry
A_1^d and of the deuteron spin-dependent structure function g_1^d at Q^2 < 1
GeV^2 and 4*10^-5 < x < 2.5*10^-2 based on the data collected by the COMPASS
experiment at CERN during the years 2002 and 2003. The statistical precision is
tenfold better than that of the previous measurement in this region. The
measured A_1^d and g_1^d are found to be consistent with zero in the whole

The video browser showdown: a live evaluation of interactive video search tools
The Video Browser Showdown evaluates the performance of exploratory video search tools on a common data set in a common environment and in presence of the audience. The main goal of this competition is to enable researchers in the field of interactive video search to directly compare their tools at work. In this paper, we present results from the second Video Browser Showdown (VBS2013) and describe and evaluate the tools of all participating teams in detail. The evaluation results give insights on how exploratory video search tools are used and how they perform in direct comparison. Moreover, we compare the achieved performance to results from another user study where 16 participants employed a standard video player to complete the same tasks as performed in VBS2013. This comparison shows that the sophisticated tools enable better performance in general, but for some tasks common video players provide similar performance and could even outperform the expert tools. Our results highlight the need for further improvement of professional tools for interactive search in videos

Double spin asymmetry in exclusive rho^0 muoproduction at COMPASS
The longitudinal double spin asymmetry A_1^rho for exclusive leptoproduction
of rho^0 mesons, mu + N -> mu + N + rho, is studied using the COMPASS 2002 and
2003 data. The measured reaction is incoherent exclusive rho^0 production on
polarised deuterons. The Q^2 and x dependence of A_1^rho is presented in a wide
kinematical range: 3x10^-3 < Q^2 < 7 (GeV/c)^2 and 5x10^-5 < x < 0.05. The
presented results are the first measurements of A_1^rho at small Q2 (Q2 < 0.1
(GeV/c)^2) and small x (x < 3x10^-3). The asymmetry is in general compatible

Under Pressure Benchmark for DDBMS Availability
The availability of Distributed Database Management Systems (DDBMS) is related to the probability of being up and running at a given point in time and to the management of failures. One well-known and widely used mechanism to ensure availability is replication, which includes performance impact on maintaining data replicas across the DDBMS’s machine nodes. Benchmarking can be used to measure such impact. In this article, we present a benchmark that evaluates the performance of DDBMS, considering availability through replication, called Under Pressure Benchmark (UPB). The UPB measures performance with different degrees of replication upon a high-throughput distributed workload, combined with failures. The UPB methodology increases the evaluation complexity from a stable system scenario to a complex one with different load sizes and replicas. We validate our benchmark with three high-throughput in-memory DDBMS: VoltDB, NuoDB and Dbms-X
Human-correlated genetic models identify precision therapy for liver cancer
\ua9 The Author(s) 2025.Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common form of primary liver cancer, is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide1,2. HCC occurs typically from a background of chronic liver disease, caused by a spectrum of predisposing conditions. Tumour development is driven by the expansion of clones that accumulate progressive driver mutations3, with hepatocytes the most likely cell of origin2. However, the landscape of driver mutations in HCC is broadly independent of the underlying aetiologies4. Despite an increasing range of systemic treatment options for advanced HCC, outcomes remain heterogeneous and typically poor. Emerging data suggest that drug efficacies depend on disease aetiology and genetic alterations5,6. Exploring subtypes in preclinical models with human relevance will therefore be essential to advance precision medicine in HCC7. Here we generated a suite of genetically driven immunocompetent in vivo and matched in vitro HCC models. Our models represent multiple features of human HCC, including clonal origin, histopathological appearance and metastasis. We integrated transcriptomic data from the mouse models with human HCC data and identified four common human–mouse subtype clusters. The subtype clusters had distinct transcriptomic characteristics that aligned with the human histopathology. In a proof-of-principle analysis, we verified response to standard-of-care treatment and used a linked in vitro–in vivo pipeline to identify a promising therapeutic candidate, cladribine, that has not previously been linked to HCC treatment. Cladribine acts in a highly effective subtype-specific manner in combination with standard-of-care therapy
