Service quality factors in the construction sector: A literature review

    Get PDF
This paper consists of an exploratory literature review whose main research objectives were the identification of the service quality factors that are considered more important in the construction sector, the service quality models that are used to measure quality, and how are they related to success factors. The research methodology is documental and based on a review of articles obtained from six major scientific databases. The description of the main results follows. In all cases, the traditional models of service quality were used as guidelines to explain and adapt to specific contexts. The typical parameters used in these models are reliability, responsiveness, communication, credibility, assurance, empathy with the client and construction quality. In some cases, additional dimensions were added. Success factors seem to be intrinsically related to project management, communication skills, professional skills, quality of the final product, design, aesthetic and innovation, where the three latter ones represent parameters that have gained recently preponderance. A holistic, flexible and adaptable attitude seems to be relevant to face dynamic and turbulent conditions and changing customer's requirements and expectations. Overall, the results indicate a generalised conservative approach which characterises this sector. This work has been supported by FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the Project Scope: UID/CEC/00319/2019 and SENESCYT - Secretaría de Educación Superior, Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación – Ecuador. Electrolytic removal of metals using a flow-through cell with a reticulated vitreous carbon cathode

The aim of the present study was to establish an electrolytic method for the removal of metals from wastewater using a three dimensional, reticulated vitreous carbon cathode. During the development of the experimental set up, particular attention was paid to the electrolyte flow rate and to the cathode porosity. The electrolytic cell employed potential values in such a way that the metals reduction reaction occurred under mass transport control. These potentials were determined by hydrodynamic voltammetry on a vitreous carbon rotating disc electrode. The cell proved to be efficient in removing copper, zinc and lead and it was able to reduce the levels of these metals from 50 mg/L to 0.1 mg/L.O objetivo do presente trabalho foi estabelecer um processo eletrolítico para remover metais de efluentes aquosos usando um catodo tridimensional de carbono vítreo reticulado.

A relationship between brainstem auditory evoked potential and vagal control of heart rate in adult women

Numerous studies have investigated the connection between autonomic control of heart rate (HR) and auditory stimulus. Yet, the literature lacks evidence of a close association between auditory brainstem processing and HR autonomic control. We aimed to evaluate and verify the relationship between auditory brainstem response (ABR) and HR variability (HRV) in healthy women. Forty‑six healthy female subjects, between the ages of 18 and 30 years old participated in the study. They were subjected to an audiometry examination, followed by rest for 10 minutes for HR recording. Next, ABR evaluation was completed discretely in both ears, with I, III and V wave components. Linear regression revealed that the root‑mean square of differences between adjacent normal RR intervals (RMSSD) and the triangular interpolation of RR interval (TINN) exhibited a significant association with Wave I in the right ear. These variables contributed to 28.2% (R²) of Wave I. In conclusion, there was a significant interaction between the autonomic control of HR and auditory processing in the right ear, suggesting that vagal tone interacts with the cochlear nerve
