    A spatial stochastic model for rumor transmission

    We consider an interacting particle system representing the spread of a rumor by agents on the dd-dimensional integer lattice. Each agent may be in any of the three states belonging to the set {0,1,2}. Here 0 stands for ignorants, 1 for spreaders and 2 for stiflers. A spreader tells the rumor to any of its (nearest) ignorant neighbors at rate \lambda. At rate \alpha a spreader becomes a stifler due to the action of other (nearest neighbor) spreaders. Finally, spreaders and stiflers forget the rumor at rate one. We study sufficient conditions under which the rumor either becomes extinct or survives with positive probability

    Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana terjadinya tindak pidana desersi oleh anggota Tentara Nasional Indonesia dan bagaimana pertanggungjawaban pidana bagi anggota Tentara Nasional Indonesia yang melakukan desersi. Dengan menggunakan metode penelitian yuridis normatif, maka dapat disimpulkan: 1. Terjadinya tindak pidana desersi oleh anggota TNI (Militer) apabila anggota militer pergi dengan maksud menarik diri untuk selamanya dari kewajiban-kewajiban dinasnya, menghindari bahaya perang, menyeberang ke musuh, atau memasuki dinas militer pada suatu negara atau kekuasaan lain tanpa dibenarkan untuk itu dan karena salahnya atau dengan sengaja melakukan ketidakhadiran tanpa izin dalam waktu damai lebih lama dari tiga puluh hari, dalam waktu perang lebih lama dari empat hari serta dengan sengaja melakukan ketidakhadiran izin dan karenanya tidak ikut melaksanakan sebagian atau seluruhnya dari suatu perjalanan yang diperintahkan. 2. Pertanggungjawaban pidana bagi anggota TNI (Militer) yang melakukan desersi apabila melakukannya dalam waktu damai, diancam dengan pidana penjara maksimum dua tahun delapan bulan. Desersi yang dilakukan dalam waktu perang, diancam dengan pidana penjara maksimum delapan tahun enam bulan. Maksimum ancaman pidana yang ditetapkan dapat diduakalikan jika memenuhi unsur-unsur tindak pidana sebagaimana diatur dalam Pasal 88  dan diancam dengan pidana mati, pidana penjara seumur hidup atau sementara maksimum duapuluh tahun  apabila melakukan desersi ke musuh. Pertanggungjawaban pidana bagi anggota TNI (Militer) diatur dalam Pasal 85 sampai dengan Pasal 96 Hukum Pidana Militer Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Pidana Militer Buku Pertama.     A novel bacterial l-arginine sensor controlling c-di-GMP levels in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

    Nutrients such as amino acids play key roles in shaping the metabolism of microorganisms in natural environments and in host–pathogen interactions. Beyond taking part to cellular metabolism and to protein synthesis, amino acids are also signaling molecules able to influence group behavior in microorganisms, such as biofilm formation. This lifestyle switch involves complex metabolic reprogramming controlled by local variation of the second messenger 3′, 5′-cyclic diguanylic acid (c-di-GMP). The intracellular levels of this dinucleotide are finely tuned by the opposite activity of dedicated diguanylate cyclases (GGDEF signature) and phosphodiesterases (EAL and HD-GYP signatures), which are usually allosterically controlled by a plethora of environmental and metabolic clues. Among the genes putatively involved in controlling c-di-GMP levels in P. aeruginosa, we found that the multidomain transmembrane protein PA0575, bearing the tandem signature GGDEF-EAL, is an l-arginine sensor able to hydrolyse c-di-GMP. Here, we investigate the basis of arginine recognition by integrating bioinformatics, molecular biophysics and microbiology. Although the role of nutrients such as l-arginine in controlling the cellular fate in P. aeruginosa (including biofilm, pathogenicity and virulence) is already well established, we identified the first l-arginine sensor able to link environment sensing, c-di-GMP signaling and biofilm formation in this bacterium

    Evaluation of aesthetic integration between composite restorations and natural tooth in NCCL: a case report

    NCCL (non carious cervical lesion) is defined as irreversible loss of dental hard tissue that does not involve bacteria. It consists of erosion, attrition, abrasion and abfraction that rarely occur alone. Dentinal hypersensitivity is an early symptom of NCCL. Preventive measures and restorative treatment can avoid the progress of NCCL. This paper reports a case of NCCL treatment with aesthetic purpose. The aesthetic evaluation was made by means of spectrophotometry as a standardized method. Spectrophotometric measurements such as International Commission on Illumination (CIE-Commission Internationale de l’Eclaraige) CIE L* a* b* and ΔE between the sound enamel and resin restoration, provide all the information about the outcome of the aesthetic restorative treatment

    Delivering Value to Community Partners in Service-Learning Projects

    Service learning is a pedagogy wherein students engage in providing a service to the community that is linked to the academic objectives of a course. There are multiple stakeholders in the service-learning experience, including students, instructors, and community partners. A significant body of research investigates experiences of students and instructors, exploring the impact of service learning on student learning and describing how to effectively design service-learning courses. While community partners are indispensable stakeholders in service learning, there are only a few studies that examine their experiences and needs. The present study addresses this weakness in our understanding by conducting a qualitative study that examines the value of service learning to community partners. Findings describe the service-learning experience from the viewpoint of community partners and report the dimensions of value created for our community partners

    Knock-Limited Performance of Triptane and 28-R Fuel Blends as Affected by Changes in Compression Ratio and in Engine Operating Variables

    A knock-limited performance investigation was conducted on blends of triptane and 28-P fuel with a 12-cylinder, V-type, liquid-cooled aircraft engine of 1710-cubic-inch displacement at three compression ratios: 6.65, 7.93, and 9.68. At each compression ratio, the effect of changes in temperature of the inlet air to the auxiliary-stage supercharger and in fuel-air ratio were investigated at engine speeds of 2280 and. 3000 rpm. The results show that knock-limited engine performance, as improved by the use of triptane, allowed operation at both take-off and cruising power at a compression ratio of 9.68. At an inlet-air temperature of 60 deg F, an engine speed of 3000 rpm ; and a fuel-air ratio of 0,095 (approximately take-off conditions), a knock-limited engine output of 1500 brake horsepower was possible with 100-percent 28-R fuel at a compression ratio of 6.65; 20-percent triptane was required for the same power output at a compression ratio of 7.93, and 75 percent at a compression ratio of 9.68 allowed an output of 1480 brake horsepower. Knock-limited power output was more sensitive to changes in fuel-air ratio as the engine speed was increased from 2280 to 3000 rpm, as the compression ratio is raised from 6.65 to 9.68, or as the inlet-air temperature is raised from 0 deg to 120 deg F

    Pengaruh Lembar Kerja Siswa Berbasis Inkuiri Terbimbing Topik Pembiasan Cahaya Terhadap Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis

    This study aims to determine the effect of student worksheet based on guided inquiry on the ability of critical thinking and improvement. The sample of this research is the students of class VII G and VII F SMPN 3 Natar. The research design used is Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. Based on the results of the Independent Sample T-test, the value of Asymp. Sig. (2-Tailed) is less than 0.05 ie 0,000, it can be stated that the guidance of the student worksheets on critical thinking skills. The average value of N-gain critical thinking ability in the experimental class is 0.43 in the medium category, while the control class with the low category is 0.25. Based on the data, the experimental class data it has an improved N-gain average of critical thinking better than control class.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh lembar kerja siswa berbasis inkuiri terbimbing terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis dan peningkatannya. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII G dan VII F SMPN 3 Natar. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. Berdasarkan hasil dari uji Independent Sample T-test, nilai Asymp. Sig. (2-Tailed) kurang dari 0,05 yaitu 0,000, maka dapat dinyatakan terdapat pengaruh yang siginifikan penggunaan lembar kerja siswa berbasis inkuiri terbimbing terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis. Nilai rata-rata N-gain kemampuan berpikir kritis pada kelas eskperimen sebesar 0,43 dengan kategori sedang, sedangkan kelas kontrol dengan kategori rendah sebesar 0,25. Berdasarkan data yang diperoleh, kelas eksperimen memiliki peningkatan rata-rata N-gain kemampuan berpikir kritis lebih baik daripada kelas kontrol

    An exactly solvable coarse-grained model for species diversity

    We present novel analytical results about ecosystem species diversity that stem from a proposed coarse grained neutral model based on birth-death processes. The relevance of the problem lies in the urgency for understanding and synthesizing both theoretical results of ecological neutral theory and empirical evidence on species diversity preservation. Neutral model of biodiversity deals with ecosystems in the same trophic level where per-capita vital rates are assumed to be species-independent. Close-form analytical solutions for neutral theory are obtained within a coarse-grained model, where the only input is the species persistence time distribution. Our results pertain: the probability distribution function of the number of species in the ecosystem both in transient and stationary states; the n-points connected time correlation function; and the survival probability, definned as the distribution of time-spans to local extinction for a species randomly sampled from the community. Analytical predictions are also tested on empirical data from a estuarine fish ecosystem. We find that emerging properties of the ecosystem are very robust and do not depend on specific details of the model, with implications on biodiversity and conservation biology.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures.
