R Package for the analysis of epistatic networks

Las mutaciones o cambios en la dotación genética de los organismos, son uno de los mecanismos básicos de la evolución de las especies. Estas pueden encontrarse en zonas codificantes o zonas no codificantes del genoma, siendo las primeras -las encontradas en zonas codificantes- las que suscitan más interés ya que en muchos casos pueden tener efectos negativos asociados con la prevalencia de enfermedades en el organismo. Entre estos efectos negativos, las mutaciones también pueden estar relacionadas con la aparición de enfermedades asumiendo que dichos cambios aumentan la propensión del individuo a padecer una enfermedad. Hoy en día se acepta que muchas de las enfermedades con origen en mutaciones son causadas por mecanismos epistáticos, esto es una interacción entre varias mutaciones que tienen efecto en su conjunto sobre una enfermedad. Estas relaciones epistáticas o de alto orden presentan dificultades para ser estudiadas debido a la complejidad computacional que presentan. Por lo tanto, es necesario diseñar nuevos métodos software de estudio de relaciones Genotipo-Fenotipo que permitan un análisis exhaustivo epistático, en este caso por parejas, complementando el análisis con teoría de grafos. Este trabajo pretende contribuir a la investigación actual identificando relaciones Genotipo-Fenotipo, especialmente las que requieren análisis epistático, creando un paquete de software para R, uno de los lenguajes de programación más usados en biología computacional y en biomedicina, ofreciendo una interfaz de uso simplificada para completar el análisis de redes epistáticas creando un grafo de Polimorfismos de Nucleótidos Únicos o SNPs según sus siglas en inglés. A partir de dichos grafos el usuario puede obtener un grafo de genes y permitiendo al usuario obtener los genes o SNPs con mayor centralidad. La herramienta a desarrollar también permite al usuario almacenar sus resultados intermedios y finales para poderlos procesar posteriormente con otros programas externos. La herramienta a desarrollar permite su gestión con programas externos como Galaxy, un WMS (Workflow Management System) que permite la gestión de flujos de trabajo, y Cytoscape, un software especializado en la visualización y gestión de grafos. Ambas herramientas son comúnmente utilizada por el público objetivo. El resultado de este trabajo pretende hacer posible la mejora en los estudios de esta área de investigación, permitiendo a más usuarios con menor conocimiento tecnológico realizar estudios GWAS expandiendo su uso y favoreciendo el incremento de resultados y conocimiento

A new clinical tool for assessing numerical abilities in neurological diseases: numerical activities of daily living

The aim of this study was to build an instrument, the numerical activities of daily living (NADL), designed to identify the specific impairments in numerical functions that may cause problems in everyday life. These impairments go beyond what can be inferred from the available scales evaluating activities of daily living in general, and are not adequately captured by measures of the general deterioration of cognitive functions as assessed by standard clinical instruments like the MMSE and MoCA. We assessed a control group (n = 148) and a patient group affected by a wide variety of neurological conditions (n = 175), with NADL along with IADL, MMSE, and MoCA. The NADL battery was found to have satisfactory construct validity and reliability, across a wide age range. This enabled us to calculate appropriate criteria for impairment that took into account age and education. It was found that neurological patients tended to overestimate their abilities as compared to the judgment made by their caregivers, assessed with objective tests of numerical abilities

Screening Ryegrass Cultivars for Aluminium Sensitivity in Nutrient Soluations

The objective of this study was to evaluate Al and H+ tolerance of nine ryegrass (Lolium perenne and L. multiflorum) cultivars by growing plants in a mineral solution (pH 4.8 and 6.0 and 0-200 (M Al). Results showed that Yatsyn-1, with a relative root length of 91 was the cultivar least affected by acidity (H+), and Concord ( RRLpH = 58) was the cultivar with the highest H+ sensitivity. In connection with Al-tolerance, Yatsyn-1 and Concord, were the most tolerant cultivars with 88 and 87 RRLAl, respectively whereas Nui and Marathon, were the most sensitive ones, reaching only a 66, 60 RRLAl, respectively

El rol del control personal en la función paliativa de la justificación del sistema entre la población indígena y no indígena de estudiantes peruanos

Indexación: Scopus.In this article we propose a mediation model for the association between system justification and psychological well-being (i.e., the palliative function of ideology), based on system justification theory and compensatory control theory. Specifically, we argue that endorsing system-justifying beliefs leads to increased perceived personal control, which in turn predicts higher well-being. We used a convenience sample of students from two Peruvian universities. The results showed that system justification was related to general psychological well-being and personal control. In addition, indigenous students rated lower on system justification, general psychological well-being, self-esteem and personal control. Next, we found that the association between system justification and general psychological well-being was stronger among indigenous students, and this relationship was partially mediated by personal control. In addition, we showed that the mediation model is moderated by ethnicity, so that personal control is a mediator only among non-indigenous participants. We conclude that personal control is a mechanism involved in the palliative function of ideology among this group. Finally, we discuss possible explanations for the mechanisms involved in the palliative function of ideology among low-status individuals. © 2018, © 2018 Fundacion Infancia y Aprendizaje.En este artículo se propone un modelo de mediación de las relaciones entre la justificación del sistema y el bienestar psicológico (i.e., la función paliativa de la ideología) basado en las teorías de la justificación del sistema y del control compensatorio. En concreto, se propone que la adopción de creencias justificativas del sistema produce un aumento del control personal percibido que, a su vez, predice niveles más elevados de bienestar. En este estudio se utilizó una muestra por conveniencia de estudiantes provenientes de dos universidades peruanas. Los resultados muestran que la justificación del sistema está relacionada con el bienestar psicológico general y con el control personal. Además, los estudiantes indígenas mostraron niveles más reducidos de justificación del sistema, bienestar psicológico general, autoestima y control personal. También se observó que la relación entre la justificación del sistema y el bienestar psicológico general era más fuerte entre los estudiantes indígenas y que el control personal mediaba parcialmente en esta relación. Asimismo, mostramos que la etnicidad es un factor moderador del modelo de mediación, por lo que el control personal es un mediador únicamente entre los participantes no indígenas. El estudio concluye que el control personal es un mecanismo que interviene en la función paliativa de la ideología en este grupo. Brief introduction to international trade in services

Este artículo realiza un descriptivo de lo que significan los servicios en el contexto global, basado en los aspectos más relevantes de lo que podría ser hasta hoy el comercio internacional de los servicios, y brinda una fundamentación teórica de las variables a tener en cuenta antes de empezar la exportación de un servicio. Busca la relación entre los flujos comerciales de bienes y los flujos comerciales de servicios, hoy atados por las nuevas tecnologías de información y por los métodos de mercadeo y logísticos, y que juntos se convierten en la estructura de la promesa de servicio empresarial. Este es un artículo de reflexión que se divide en cinco partes presentando una perspectiva analítica e interpretativa del autor sobre un proyecto de investigación ya terminado. La primera plantea un panorama general de los servicios a nivel mundial, haciendo una introducción de la institución rectora: la Organización Mundial del Comercio; la segunda considera las formas de transferir un servicio desde un punto de origen hacia un punto de destino involucrando oferente y demandante; la tercera ofrece una categorización de los servicios por sector de aplicación; la cuarta expone las características y definición de los servicios ofreciendo una orientación sobre la operación de internacionalización de un servicio; y, la quinta parte, está enfocada en la identificación de elementos concluyentes sobre el comercio internacional de los servicios desde un punto de vista teórico, comercial y logístico.This article provides a description of what is meant by services in the global context, based on the most relevant aspects of what might today be the international trade in services, and provides theoretical foundation of the variables to consider before the initiation of a service export. It is also a search to find the relation between goods trade flows of and services trade flows, actually bound by the new information technologies and marketing methods and logistics, and that together they become the structure of the business service promise.This is a reflection paper divided into five parts presenting an analytical and interpretative perspective of the author on a research project already completed. The part presents an overview of services worldwide, with an introduction of the governing institution: the World Trade Organization; the second considers the ways to transfer a service from a point of origin to a destination involving an offerer and a demander; the third provides a categorization of the field of application services; the fourth sets out the characteristics and definition of services offering guidance on the operation of a service internationalization; and, fifth is focused on the identification of conclusive evidence on international trade in services from a theoretical standpoint, commercial and logistics

Evaluación del Bioinsumo de Fique Pulverizado (Furcraea spp) para el Control in vitro de Phytophthora infestans en papa (Solanum tuberosum L)

The objective of this research was evaluating the antifungal activity of spray-dried Fique (Furcraea spp) for in vitro control of Phytophthora infestans in potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L). The optimal drying process variables studied were the entry temperature and air velocity of 140 °C and 60 m/s. The product obtained was amended in an agar medium tomato which was placed in petri containers, inoculated with 1.2 cm in diameter of pathogens discs. The optimum treatment inhibited 100% growth of the pathogen. Also, a reduction of water activity of 37.4% was achieved. This allowed increasing its preservation. The results showed that the technique is highly favorable for the conservation of bio-products of fungal properties
