Geometrical Aspects Of BRST Cohomology In Augmented Superfield Formalism

In the framework of augmented superfield approach, we provide the geometrical origin and interpretation for the nilpotent (anti-)BRST charges, (anti-)co-BRST charges and a non-nilpotent bosonic charge. Together, these local and conserved charges turn out to be responsible for a clear and cogent definition of the Hodge decomposition theorem in the quantum Hilbert space of states. The above charges owe their origin to the de Rham cohomological operators of differential geometry which are found to be at the heart of some of the key concepts associated with the interacting gauge theories. For our present review, we choose the two (1+1)(1 + 1)-dimensional (2D) quantum electrodynamics (QED) as a prototype field theoretical model to derive all the nilpotent symmetries for all the fields present in this interacting gauge theory in the framework of augmented superfield formulation and show that this theory is a {\it unique} example of an interacting gauge theory which provides a tractable field theoretical model for the Hodge theory.Comment: LaTeX file, 25 pages, Ref. Nilpotent Symmetries For Matter Fields In Non-Abelian Gauge Theory: Augmented Superfield Formalism

In the framework of superfield approach to Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) formalism, the derivation of the (anti-)BRST nilpotent symmetries for the matter fields, present in any arbitrary interacting gauge theory, has been a long-standing problem. In our present investigation, the local, covariant, continuous and off-shell nilpotent (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations for the Dirac fields (ψ,ψˉ)(\psi, \bar\psi) are derived in the framework of the augmented superfield formulation where the four (3+1)(3 + 1)-dimensional (4D) interacting non-Abelian gauge theory is considered on the six (4+2)(4 + 2)-dimensional supermanifold parametrized by the four even spacetime coordinates xÎŒx^\mu and a couple of odd elements (Ξ\theta and ξˉ\bar\theta) of the Grassmann algebra. The requirement of the invariance of the matter (super)currents and the horizontality condition on the (super)manifolds leads to the derivation of the nilpotent symmetries for the matter fields as well as the gauge- and the (anti-)ghost fields of the theory in the general scheme of the augmented superfield formalism.Comment: LaTeX file, 16 pages, printing mistakes in the second paragraph of `Introduction' corrected, a footnote added, these modifications submitted as ``erratum'' to IJMPA in the final for

A Web-enhanced Course in Foundation Program at Bahrain Teachers College: A Case Study

    Get PDF
The purpose of a web-enhanced course in Study Skills at Bahrain Teachers College (BTC) was to reduce the time consumed in teaching, learning and assessing while dealing with large classes. Thus, the current study is a case in exploring the effectiveness of using different aspects of technology in teaching. Conceptualized by Stella Cottrell, the APT-S framework of study skills focuses on Academic skills, People’s, Task and Self-management skills, and that formed the basis of the Study Skills course. The technology engaged in this investigation consisted of BTC’s Learning Management System-Moodle, computer labs, and students’ personal mobile devices. Through the e-content on Moodle, the course incorporated technology with online activities, online quizzes, QR codes, active excel sheets and optical answer sheets. Emails and WhatsApp groups formed the medium of communication with students. A variety of online teaching strategies included video lectures, flipped class model, live Instagram session, online discussion forums, and several interactive in-class fun activities. Periodic assessments of small portions of the content and reflective learning tasks that promoted critical thinking were the other highlights of the course. The sample for the current case study comprised of 366 Foundation program students at BTC. The qualitative data was collected in the form of the students’ reflections and feedback on the open-ended questions as well as the insights from the 3 course instructors. Unstructured interviews were also conducted with 14 students. Overall, the case study concluded that the blended/online learning for Study Skills course made the teaching and learning process more efficient and ensured a larger number of online participation from students than in a normal classroom. The effectiveness in the use of technology, through a flip classroom, a live Instagram session and video lectures, was clearly evident. Due to the challenges posed by the logistics of conducting frequent assessments and recording video lectures without professional support, it is recommended that BTC should be equipped with sufficient computer labs and professional recording equipment. Locating the ‘radical’ in 'Shoot the Messenger'

    Get PDF
This is the author's accepted manuscript. The final published article is available from the link below, copyright 2013 @ Edinburgh University Press. The 2006 BBC drama Shoot the Messenger is based on the psychological journey of a Black schoolteacher, Joe Pascale, accused of assaulting a Black male pupil. The allegation triggers Joe's mental breakdown which is articulated, through Joe's first-person narration, as a vindictive loathing of Black people. In turn, a range of common stereotypical characterisations and discourses based on a Black culture of hypocrisy, blame and entitlement is presented. The text is therefore laid wide open to a critique of its neo-conservatism and hegemonic narratives of Black Britishness. However, the drama's presentation of Black mental illness suggests that Shoot the Messenger may also be interpreted as a critique of social inequality and the destabilising effects of living with ethnicised social categories. Through an analysis of issues of representation, the article reclaims this controversial text as a radical drama and examines its implications for and within a critical cultural politics of ‘race’ and representation

Magnetic phases evolution in the LaMn1-xFexO3+y system

We have investigated the crystal structure and magnetic properties for polycrystalline samples of LaMn1-xFexO3+y, in the whole range x=0.0 to x=1.0, prepared by solid state reaction in air. All samples show the ORT-2 orthorhombic structure that suppresses the Jahn-Teller distortion, thus favoring a ferromagnetic (FM) superexchange (SE) interaction between Mn^{3+}-O-Mn^{3+}. For x=0.0 the oxygen excess (y ~ 0.09) produces vacancies in the La and Mn sites and generates a fraction around 18% of Mn^{4+} ions and 82% of the usual Mn^{3+} ions, with possible double exchange interaction between them. The Fe doping in this system is known to produce only stable Fe^{3+} ions. We find an evolution from a fairly strong FM phase with a Curie temperature T_{C} ~ 160 K, for x=0.0, to an antiferromagnetic (AFM) phase with T_{N} = 790 K, for x=1.0, accompanied by clear signatures of a cluster-glass behavior. For intermediate Fe contents a mixed-phase state occurs, with a gradual decrease (increase) of the FM (AFM) phase, accompanied by a systematic transition broadening for 0.2 < x < 0.7. A model based on the expected exchange interaction among the various magnetic-ion types, accounts very well for the saturation-magnetization dependence on Fe doping.Comment: 27 pages, 9 figure

Contacting single bundles of carbon nanotubes with alternating electric fields

Single bundles of carbon nanotubes have been selectively deposited from suspensions onto sub-micron electrodes with alternating electric fields. We explore the resulting contacts using several solvents and delineate the differences between Au and Ag as electrode materials. Alignment of the bundles between electrodes occurs at frequencies above 1 kHz. Control over the number of trapped bundles is achieved by choosing an electrode material which interacts strongly with the chemical functional groups of the carbon nanotubes, with superior contacts being formed with Ag electrodes.Comment: 4 pages, RevTe

Endoscopic Submucosal Tunnel Dissection as a Novel Therapeutic Technique in Patients With Barrett’s Esophagus

    Get PDF
© 2020 American Federation for Medical Research. With the ameliorated resectability prowess of endoscopic techniques, a myriad of diseases previously treated by major ablative surgeries are now endoscopically curable. Endoscopic submucosal tunnel dissection (ESTD) is a relatively new technique that has diversified endoscopic application. Although ESTD has frequently been used for the resection of esophageal neoplastic lesions, the clinical evidence pertaining to its efficacy in the treatment of circumferential Barrett’s esophagus remains sparse. In this study, we evaluated ESTD as a potential therapeutic technique in patients with Barrett’s esophagus-related high-grade dysplasia. The tunneling strategy helped achieve complete en bloc resection at an increased dissection speed, without any procedural complications. This article illustrates that ESTD can be a feasible, safe, and effective treatment for dysplastic Barrett’s esophagus. Future research should aim to stratify the potential risks and complications associated with this optimization of endoscopic submucosal dissection in patients with superficial esophageal lesions

Cohomological Operators and Covariant Quantum Superalgebras

We obtain an interesting realization of the de Rham cohomological operators of differential geometry in terms of the noncommutative q-superoscillators for the supersymmetric quantum group GL_{qp} (1|1). In particular, we show that a unique superalgebra, obeyed by the bilinears of fermionic and bosonic noncommutative q-(super)oscillators of GL_{qp} (1|1), is exactly identical to that obeyed by the de Rham cohomological operators. A set of discrete symmetry transformation for a set of GL_{qp} (1|1) covariant superalgebras turns out to be the analogue of the Hodge duality * operation of differential geometry. A connection with an extended BRST algebra obeyed by the nilpotent (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST charges, the ghost charge and a bosonic charge (which is equal to the anticommutator of (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST charges) is also established.Comment: LaTeX file, 21 page

One sided Star and Core orthogonality of matrices

We investigate two one-sided orthogonalities of matrices, the first of which is left (right) ∗*-orthogonality for rectangular matrices and the other is left (right) core-orthogonality of index 11 matrices. We obtain some basic results for these matrices, their canonical forms, and characterizations. Also, relations between left (right) orthogonal matrices and parallel sums are investigated. Finally under these one-sided orthogonalities we explore the conditions of additivity of the Moore-Penrose inverse and the core inverse
