The aim of this study is to find out the reading ability of the second year students of SMAN 2 Pangkalan Kerinci in comprehending procedure texts. The population of this research were all of the second year students which consisted of 253 students. There were 25 students who participated in this study. The instrument was a test adapted from authentic material. The frame of the test covers 8 components such as: finding main idea, finding factual information, finding meaning of difficult word, finding references, finding inferences, finding social function, finding generic structure, and finding language features. Each component consist of 4 question and for finding generic structure and language features consist of 3 question because the generic structure question and the language features is too difficult for the students. The test containing 30 items was used to collect the data. Before the test was administered, the test was tried out to find out the difficulty level and the reliability of the test. To analyze the data, the raw scores of the students were calculated and the level of ability was identified by using the classification of ability level by Harris (1974). The result showed that the ability of the second year students of SMAN 2 Pangkalan Kerinci in comprehending procedure texts was at Average to Good level with mean score 67. Therefore, it can be concluded that most of the students were able to comprehend procedure texts. However, the students are suggested to do more practice in reading procedure texts in order to comprehend procedure texts to improve the ability in reading due to the poorness of their reading ability

Objectives: To determine verbal intelligence and spoken language of children with phenylketonuria and to study the effect of age at diagnosis and phenylalanine plasma level on these abilities. Design: Cross-sectional. Setting: Children with phenylketonuria were recruited from pediatric hospitals in 2012. Normal control subjects were recruited from kindergartens in Tehran. Participants: 30 phenylketonuria and 42 control subjects aged 4- 6.5 years. Skills were compared between 3 phenylketonuria groups categorized by age at diagnosis/treatment, and between the phenylketonuria and control groups. Main outcome measures: Scores on Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence for verbal and total intelligence, and Test of Language Development-Primary, third edition for spoken language, listening, speaking, semantics, syntax, and organization. Results: The performance of control subjects was significantly better than that of early-treated subjects for all composite quotients from Test of Language Development and verbal intelligence (P >0.001). Early-treated subjects scored significantly higher than the two groups of late-treated subjects for spoken language (P =0.01), speaking (P =0.04), syntax (P =0.02), and verbal intelligence (P =0.019). There was a negative correlation between phenylalanine level and verbal intelligence (r= 0.79) in early-treated subjects and between phenylalanine level and spoken language (r= 0.71), organization (r= 0.82) and semantics (r= 0.82) for late-treated subjects diagnosed before the age one year. Conclusion: The study confirmed that diagnosis of newborns and control of blood phenylalanine concentration improves verbal intelligence and spoken language scores in phenylketonuria subjects. © 2015, Indian Academy of Pediatrics

The monitoring of the harmful bloom of Cochlodinium polykrikoides in the northern Persian Gulf was studied during 2010 to 2011. The results revealed that in the waters of Hormozgan Province, the Diatoms and Dinoflgellates had the highest frequency. No significant difference was found for amount of nutrients in three sub- regions. The bloom of C. polykrikoides was higher in central sub-region in spring and was occurred in the eastern sub-region in summer, but no mortality of fishes was recorded. In Bushehr Province, four classes of Bacillaryophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Dynophyceae and Prymnesiophyceae were determined. Furthermore significant different values of nutrients were recorded. In waters of Khuzestan Province, different values of NH4 were measured for different months. In total, the measured ratio of N: P in all months was lower than Redfield Ratio (16:1) in which subsequently the environmental condition was not suitable for bloom of C. polykrikoides

Indonesia and Malaysia have a good potency for cooperation in aviation industry. It can be seen in the establishing two aviation companies namely PT. Indonesia Air Asia and Malindo which both are low-cost carrier. These aviation industries are categorized as low-cost carrier, however safety and security are absolute factors because these are rights for consumers. This article will describe further about safety and security standard; protecting the rights for consumers in connection with safety aviation in Indonesia and Malaysia from the Consumer Protection Law and the Aviation Law. As a result of the research shows that safety standard passenger for air transportation in airport covers information and safety facility in the shape of availability of the emergency safety tools (fires, accidents and natural disasters); information, area and health facility; and healthcare workers. Moreover, safety standards for passenger in an aircraft include information and safety facility in the shape of availability information and the emergency safety tools for passenger in an aircraft. The protection for consumer rights for safety flight in Indonesia as follows: aviation industry has obligation to fulfill minimum standard of safety and security; consumers must be safety from false information which raises concern; aircraft operation which endanger of the passenger; and consumer protection in operating the electronic device which endanger flight. On the other hand, the law of consumer rights in Malaysia relating to aviation are ruled under the Aviation Law as a result of the Warsaw Convention 1929. In conclusion, the verdict of consumer rights related to security aviation begins when the passenger enter to an aircraft, in the aircraft, and by the time they get off the plane

Preliminary test of group acceptance and commitment therapy on obsessive-compulsive disorder for patients on optimal dose of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of adding group acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to adults diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) who were already on an optimal dose of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Forty-six Iranian women, on SSRIs, were randomized to group ACT + SSRI or continued SSRI conditions. SSRI dosages stayed stable during the study. Assessments included the Structured Clinical Interview (SCID-I), Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale Self report (Y-BOCS-SR), Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), Ruminative Response Scale (RRS), and Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (AAQ-II). The results showed significant reductions on the Y-BOCS-SR and BDI-II in both conditions at posttreatment with significantly greater reductions in the ACT + SSRI condition at follow-up. The RRS and AAQ-II saw significant improvements in the ACT + SSRI condition at posttreatment and follow-up compared to the SSRI condition. Results provide cross-cultural support for group ACT as a treatment for OCD and as a successful adjunct to SSRI treatment. © 201

In this study the effect of different salinities on growth, biomass and pigments of Chlorophyll a and Carotenoid were tested to determine an appropriate salinity to produce maximum growth, biomass and carotenoids of microalgae (N.oculat).Therefore, the 2-liter flask contains microalga under different levels of salinities (20, 25, 32, 35, 50 ppt), and under laboratory conditions( temperature 25-22 ° C, PH. 8, and light period of 12 h light and 12 h darkness) were cultured for 14 days. The results of present study indicate that The maximum growth of microalgae (72.63×106 cell ml–1) and the maximum specific growth rate of microalgae (0.33 d⁻1) included in treatments with salinity of 25 and 30 ppt, that had a significant difference with the other treatments (p<0.05). The maximum dry weight (0.022 g/lit) and amount of chlorophyll a (3.92 mg lit) was recorded in treatments with salinity of 30 ppt and shows significant difference with the other treatment (p<0.05). The Minimum amount of carotenoids (0.41 mg lit) was related to treatment with salinity of 50 ppt. shows a significant difference with other treatments (p<0.05). According to the results we can say that microalgae resistant to high salinity and a wide range of salinity has the ability to grow and produce carotenoids
