The system under consideration is subject to both deterministic and stochastic uncertainties. Sufficient conditions for the filter to guarantee an optimized upper bound on the state estimation error variance for admissible uncertainties are established in terms of two discrete Riccati difference equations. A numerical example is given to show the applicability of the presented method

Two kinds of random delays are simultaneously considered: i) from the controller to the plant, and ii) from the sensor to the controller, via a limited bandwidth communication channel. The random delays are modeled as a linear function of the stochastic variable satisfying Bernoulli random binary distribution. The observer-based controller is designed to exponentially stabilize the networked system in the sense of mean square, and also achieve the prescribed H∞ disturbance attenuation level. The addressed controller design problem is transformed to an auxiliary convex optimization problem, which can be solved by a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. An illustrative example is provided to show the applicability of the proposed method

The purpose of the problem is to design an uncertainty-independent filter such that, for all admissible parameter uncertainties, the following filtering requirements are simultaneously satisfied: 1) the filtering process is asymptotically stable; 2) the poles of the filtering matrix are located inside a prescribed region that compasses the vertical strips, horizontal strips, disks, or conic sectors; 3) both the H2 norm and the H∞ norm on the respective transfer functions are not more than the specified upper bound constraints. We establish a general framework to solve the addressed multiobjective filtering problem completely. In particular, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of the problem in terms of a set of feasible linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). An illustrative example is given to illustrate the design procedures and performances of the proposed method
Bandwidth control of forbidden transmission gaps in compound structures with subwavelength slits
Phase resonances in transmission compound structures with subwavelength slits
produce sharp dips in the transmission response. For all equal slits, the
wavelengths of these sharp transmission minima can be varied by changing the
width or the length of all the slits. In this paper we show that the width of
the dip, i.e., the frequency range of minimum transmittance, can be controlled
by making at least one slit different from the rest within a compound unit
cell. In particular, we investigate the effect that a change in the dielectric
filling, or in the length of a single slit produces in the transmission
response. We also analyze the scan angle behavior of these structures by means
of band diagrams, and compare them with previous results for all-equal slit

Anchoring of Surface Proteins to the Cell Wall of Staphylococcus aureus: sortase catalyzed in vitro transpeptidation reaction using LPXTG peptide and NH2-Gly3 substrates
Staphylococcus aureus sortase anchors surface proteins to the cell wall envelope by cleaving polypeptides at the LPXTG motif. Surface proteins are linked to the peptidoglycan by an amide bond between the C-terminal carboxyl and the amino group of the pentaglycine cross-bridge. We find that purified recombinant sortase hydrolyzed peptides bearing an LPXTG motif at the peptide bond between threonine and glycine. In the presence of NH2-Gly3, sortase catalyzed exclusively a transpeptidation reaction, linking the carboxyl group of threonine to the amino group of NH2-Gly3. In the presence of amino group donors the rate of sortase mediated cleavage at the LPXTG motif was increased. Hydrolysis and transpeptidation required the sulfhydryl of cysteine 184, suggesting that sortase catalyzed the transpeptidation reaction of surface protein anchoring via the formation of a thioester acyl-enzyme intermediate
Anomalous single production of fourth generation quarks at ILC and CLIC
We present a detailed study of the anomalous single fourth generation
quark production within the dominant Standard Model(SM) decay modes at future
colliders. We calculate the signal and background cross sections in
the mass range 300-800 GeV. We also discuss the limits of and
() anomalous couplings as well as values of attainable integrated

A generalized Gaussian process model for computer experiments with binary time series
Non-Gaussian observations such as binary responses are common in some
computer experiments. Motivated by the analysis of a class of cell adhesion
experiments, we introduce a generalized Gaussian process model for binary
responses, which shares some common features with standard GP models. In
addition, the proposed model incorporates a flexible mean function that can
capture different types of time series structures. Asymptotic properties of the
estimators are derived, and an optimal predictor as well as its predictive
distribution are constructed. Their performance is examined via two simulation
studies. The methodology is applied to study computer simulations for cell
adhesion experiments. The fitted model reveals important biological information
in repeated cell bindings, which is not directly observable in lab experiments.Comment: 49 pages, 4 figure
Robust H∞ filtering with error variance constraints for uncertain discrete-time systems
The robust H∞ filtering problem is considered for discrete-time systems subject to norm-bounded parameter uncertainties in both the state and the output matrices of the state-space model. Sufficient conditions for the filter to satisfy the prescribed H∞ performance and steady-state estimation error variance constraints are given in terms of two discrete algebraic Riccati inequalities. The filter obtained does not depend on the perturbation parameter which is assumed to be unmeasured.
