Flexible metamaterials at visible wavelengths
We report on the fabrication and characterization of plasmonic structures on flexible substrates (Metaflex) and demonstrate the optical properties of a single layer of Metaflex. The layer exhibits a plasmonic resonance in the visible region around 620 nm. We show experimental and numerical results for both nano-antennas and fishnet geometries. We anticipate the use of Metaflex as a building block for flexible metamaterials in the visible range.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe
Editorial: new challenges In theory and practice of corporate governance
The aim of international conference “New Challenges in Corporate Governance: Theory And Practice” is to move the field closer to a global theory by advancing our understanding of corporate governance, which combines insights from the literature on firm governance bundles with insights from the national governance systems literature, investigating new perspectives and challenges for corporate governance and outlining possible scenarios of its development
Components Qualification for a Possible use in the Mu2e Calorimeter Waveform Digitizers
The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab searches for the charged flavor violating
conversion of a muon into an electron in the Coulomb field of a nucleus. The
detector consists of a straw tube tracker and a CSI crystal electromagnetic
calorimeter, both housed in a superconducting solenoid. Both the front-end and
the digital electronics, located inside the cryostat, will be operated in
vacuum under a 1 T magnetic field, having to sustain the high flux of neutrons
and ionizing particles coming from the muons stopping target. These harsh
experimental conditions make the design of the calorimeter waveform digitizer
quite challenging. All the selected commercial devices must be tested
individually and qualified for radiation hardness and operation in high
magnetic field. At the moment the expected particles flux and spectra at the
digitizers location are not completely simulated and we are using initial rough
estimates to select the components for the first prototype. We are gaining
experience in the qualification procedures using the selected components but
the choice will be frozen only when dose and neutron flux simulations will be
completed. The experimental results of the first qualification campaign are
presented.Comment: TWEPP 2016 - Topical Workshop on Electronics for Particle Physics,

Prediction Model for the Life of Nickel-cadmium Batteries in Geosynchronous Orbit Satellites
A mathematical model is described which predicts the service life of nickel-cadmium batteries designed for geosynchronous orbit satellites. Regression analysis technique is used to analyze orbital data on second generation trickle charged batteries. The model gives average cell voltage as a function of design parameters, operating parameters and time. The voltage model has the properties of providing a good fit to the data, good predictive capability, and agreement with known battery performance characteristics. Average cell voltage can be predicted to within 0.02 volts for up to 8 years. This modeling shows that these batteries will operate reliably for 10 years. Third-generation batteries are expected to operate even longer
Lifetime statistics of quantum chaos studied by a multiscale analysis
In a series of pump and probe experiments, we study the lifetime statistics
of a quantum chaotic resonator when the number of open channels is greater than
one. Our design embeds a stadium billiard into a two dimensional photonic
crystal realized on a Silicon-on-insulator substrate. We calculate resonances
through a multiscale procedure that combines graph theory, energy landscape
analysis and wavelet transforms. Experimental data is found to follow the
universal predictions arising from random matrix theory with an excellent level
of agreement.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figure
