Curvature in Noncommutative Geometry
Our understanding of the notion of curvature in a noncommutative setting has
progressed substantially in the past ten years. This new episode in
noncommutative geometry started when a Gauss-Bonnet theorem was proved by
Connes and Tretkoff for a curved noncommutative two torus. Ideas from spectral
geometry and heat kernel asymptotic expansions suggest a general way of
defining local curvature invariants for noncommutative Riemannian type spaces
where the metric structure is encoded by a Dirac type operator. To carry
explicit computations however one needs quite intriguing new ideas. We give an
account of the most recent developments on the notion of curvature in

Rhythm in the speech of a person with right hemisphere damage: Applying the pairwise variability index
Although several aspects of prosody have been studied in speakers with right hemisphere damage (RHD), rhythm remains largely uninvestigated. This study compares the rhythm of an Australian English speaker with right hemisphere damage (due to a stroke, but with no concomitant dysarthria) to that of a neurologically unimpaired individual. The speakers' rhythm is compared using the pairwise variability index (PVI) which allows for an acoustic characterization of rhythm by comparing the duration of successive vocalic and intervocalic intervals. A sample of speech from a structured interview between a speech and language therapist and each participant was analysed. Previous research has shown that speakers with RHD may have difficulties with intonation production, and therefore it was hypothesized that there may also be rhythmic disturbance. Results show that the neurologically normal control uses a similar rhythm to that reported for British English (there are no previous studies available for Australian English), whilst the speaker with RHD produces speech with a less strongly stress-timed rhythm. This finding was statistically significant for the intervocalic intervals measured (t(8) = 4.7, p < .01), and suggests that some aspects of prosody may be right lateralized for this speaker. The findings are discussed in relation to previous findings of dysprosody in RHD populations, and in relation to syllable-timed speech of people with other neurological conditions
Neonatology/Paediatrics – Guidelines on Parenteral Nutrition, Chapter 13
There are special challenges in implementing parenteral nutrition (PN) in paediatric patients, which arises from the wide range of patients, ranging from extremely premature infants up to teenagers weighing up to and over 100 kg, and their varying substrate requirements. Age and maturity-related changes of the metabolism and fluid and nutrient requirements must be taken into consideration along with the clinical situation during which PN is applied. The indication, the procedure as well as the intake of fluid and substrates are very different to that known in PN-practice in adult patients, e.g. the fluid, nutrient and energy needs of premature infants and newborns per kg body weight are markedly higher than of older paediatric and adult patients. Premature infants <35 weeks of pregnancy and most sick term infants usually require full or partial PN. In neonates the actual amount of PN administered must be calculated (not estimated). Enteral nutrition should be gradually introduced and should replace PN as quickly as possible in order to minimise any side-effects from exposure to PN. Inadequate substrate intake in early infancy can cause long-term detrimental effects in terms of metabolic programming of the risk of illness in later life. If energy and nutrient demands in children and adolescents cannot be met through enteral nutrition, partial or total PN should be considered within 7 days or less depending on the nutritional state and clinical conditions
Turning aggression into an object of intervention: Tinkering in a crime control pilot study
Real-world experiments that test new technologies can affect policy and practice by introducing new objects of intervention through tinkering; the ad hoc work of realigning relations in the face of frictions, surprises, and disturbances that occur when introducing a technology. In a pilot study on aggression detection, tinkering moved aggression in and out of the human body. In the end, the pilot defined aggression as a set of acoustic-physical variables representing the aroused human body, alongside other signals of aggression. How aggression as an object intervention was shaped by tinkering is relevant because it involved inclusions and exclusions by the authorities who identified aggression, the methods they applied, and mandate for intervention. A focus on relations that are tinkered within a real-world experiment permits critical engagement with this format. Although the real-world experimental format is credited with producing knowledge about a technology's ‘actual’ performance, actors and events at the pilot study location were made only selectively relevant. Analyses of real-world experiments should therefore explain how experiments selectively make the world relevant, giving only particular objects of intervention a truth status
Measuring the Polarization of Boosted Hadronic Tops
We propose a new technique for measuring the polarization of hadronically
decaying boosted top quarks. In particular, we apply a subjet-based technique
to events where the decay products of the top are clustered within a single
jet. The technique requires neither b-tagging nor W-reconstruction, and does
not rely on assumptions about either the top production mechanism or the
sources of missing energy in the event. We include results for various new
physics scenarios made with different Monte Carlo generators to demonstrate the

Constraints on new interactions from neutron scattering experiments
Constraints for the constants of hypothetical Yukawa-type corrections to the
Newtonian gravitational potential are obtained from analysis of neutron
scattering experiments. Restrictions are obtained for the interaction range
between 10^{-12} and 10^{-7} cm, where Casimir force experiments and atomic
force microscopy are not sensitive. Experimental limits are obtained also for
non-electromagnetic inverse power law neutron-nucleus potential. Some
possibilities are discussed to strengthen these constraints.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figure
Jet Dipolarity: Top Tagging with Color Flow
A new jet observable, dipolarity, is introduced that can distinguish whether
a pair of subjets arises from a color singlet source. This observable is
incorporated into the HEPTopTagger and is shown to improve discrimination

Dangerous Skyrmions in Little Higgs Models
Skyrmions are present in many models of electroweak symmetry breaking where
the Higgs is a pseudo-Goldstone boson of some strongly interacting sector. They
are stable, composite objects whose mass lies in the range 10-100 TeV and can
be naturally abundant in the universe due to their small annihilation
cross-section. They represent therefore good dark matter candidates. We show
however in this work that the lightest skyrmion states are electrically charged
in most of the popular little Higgs models, and hence should have been directly
or indirectly observed in nature already. The charge of the skyrmion under the
electroweak gauge group is computed in a model-independent way and is related
to the presence of anomalies in the underlying theory via the
