Analysis of Dual-Element Antenna Configurations

Dual-dipole antennas have been extensively researched previously for their bandwidth enhancing effect on Yagi type antennas. In this thesis, dual-dipole antennas are fabricated and measured. These experimental measurement results are verified with simulated values. First, a standard dual-dipole antenna is investigated and found that the high magnitude, opposite current directions on the dipole arms are the reasoning behind the creation of a high gain mode. This pattern is similar to a Yagi antenna. Next, a dual-band implementation of the dual-dipole antenna is shown, with two distinct resonances in a lower band and an upper band. Both bandwidths exhibit a dipole like mode, as well as a high gain mode. Finally, a dual-element cross-dipole antenna application is investigated. The antenna exhibits multiple dipole like modes within the bandwidth, high gain points, and CP generation at the center frequency

Modelling and Refinement in CODA

This paper provides an overview of the CODA framework for modelling and refinement of component-based embedded systems. CODA is an extension of Event-B and UML-B and is supported by a plug-in for the Rodin toolset. CODA augments Event-B with constructs for component-based modelling including components, communications ports, port connectors, timed communications and timing triggers. Component behaviour is specified through a combination of UML-B state machines and Event-B. CODA communications and timing are given an Event-B semantics through translation rules. Refinement is based on Event-B refinement and allows layered construction of CODA models in a consistent way.Comment: In Proceedings Refine 2013, arXiv:1305.563

Temperature dependent stiffness and visco-elastic behaviour of lipid coated microbubbles using atomic force microscopy.

yesThe compression stiffness of a phospholipid microbubble was determined using force-spectroscopy as a function of temperature. The stiffness was found to decrease by approximately a factor of three from 0.08 N m 1, at 10 C, down to 0.03 N m 1 at 37 C. This temperature dependence indicates that the surface tension of lipid coating is the dominant contribution to the microbubble stiffness. The timedependent material properties, e.g. creep, increased non-linearly with temperature, showing a factor of two increase in creep-displacement, from 24 nm, at 10 C, to 50 nm, at 37 C. The standard linear solid model was used to extract the visco-elastic parameters and their determination at different temperatures allowed the first determination of the activation energy for creep, for a microbubble, to be determined.EPSR

Exploring concepts of compassion in care home settings : a scoping review protocol

Introduction There is widespread agreement that medical care without compassion cannot be patient-centred, but patients still routinely cite that they feel a lack of compassion in the care environment. There is a dearth of research on how compassion is experienced in a non-hospital setting such as a care home, not just by residents but by staff and other key stakeholders. This scoping review aims to determine the body of existing, published research that explicitly refers to compassion or empathy in the context of care homes. Methods and analysis This scoping review will follow the methodology described by Arksey and O'Malley and the PRISMAextension for scoping reviews guideline to adhere to an established methodological framework. Relevant publications will be searched on the EMBASE, MEDLINE, PubMed, CINAHL, EBM Reviews and PsycInfo databases. Peer-reviewed literature focusing on experiences of compassion or empathy in care home settings from the perspective of either staff, residents (or clients), family members or their combined perspectives will be included. We will focus on literature published from 2000 up to 1 November 2021, in English, Spanish, Portuguese Finnish and Estonian. The review process will consist of three stages: a title review to identify articles of interest, this will be followed by an abstract review and finally, a full-text review. These three stages will be conducted by two reviewers. Data will be extracted, collated and charted and a narrative synthesis of the results will be presented. Ethics and dissemination Ethical approval is not required for this scoping review. This study supports the first part of a larger programme to understand the importance of technologies in care homes. The scoping review will examine data from publicly available documentation, reports and published papers. Dissemination will be achieved through engagement with stakeholder communities, and publishing results. Our team will include representatives from the different communities involved.Peer reviewe
