Complications following REM sleep behavior disorder
REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is gaining increasing attention as important prodromal marker for the development of neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's Disease. However, the clinical relevance of this disorder and its association with other prodromal markers is often underestimated in clinical routine. We here report a case of severe clinical complications following extensive nocturnal movements due to RBD, aggravated by occurrence of additional prodromal non-motor symptoms. Questionner des corpus pour questionner la langue. Lâexemple des virgules en allemand
Le concept dâapprenant chercheur attribue Ă lâapprenant les traits dâun linguiste cherchant Ă comprendre le fonctionnement de la langue. Souvent mentionnĂ© dans le contexte de lâutilisation des corpus pour lâenseignement-apprentissage dâune langue Ă©trangĂšre, ce concept nĂ©cessite de la part des apprenants la capacitĂ© de formuler une question portant sur un fait linguistique et de transformer cette question en une requĂȘte sur corpus. Afin dâobserver la façon dont de telles compĂ©tences peuvent se mettre en place, une expĂ©rience a Ă©tĂ© proposĂ©e Ă deux groupes de futurs enseignants dâallemand ayant produit des Ă©crits acadĂ©miques pendant un module de didactique. Lâanalyse dâerreurs appliquĂ©e Ă leurs textes a motivĂ© le choix de proposer Ă ce public un travail de conceptualisation de la virgule. Lors dâun atelier de formation linguistique et technique dâune durĂ©e de 6 heures, les Ă©tudiants avaient lâoccasion dâobserver la virgule dans un corpus dâexperts. Ils Ă©taient regroupĂ©s en binĂŽmes afin dâĂȘtre incitĂ©s Ă une interaction verbale pendant leur travail dâexploration. Pour lâun des groupes, une approche dĂ©ductive a Ă©tĂ© choisie et pour lâautre une approche inductive. Lâanalyse des donnĂ©es a permis de dĂ©terminer trois types dâexploration du corpus par les apprenants et dâĂ©tablir un lien entre leurs modes dâinvestigation et le traitement spĂ©cifique auquel ils ont Ă©tĂ© soumis. Les interactions verbales et les films dâĂ©crans contiennent des indices selon lesquels lâapproche dĂ©ductive a, davantage que lâapproche inductive, menĂ© Ă des dĂ©marches sâapparentant Ă une enquĂȘte scientifique.The concept of the learner as a researcher assigns the learner features of a linguist striving to understand the functioning of language. This concept, often mentioned within the context of corpus use for foreign language learning and teaching, implies the learnerâs capacity to formulate questions about a given language feature and to transform these questions into corpus queries. In order to observe how related competencies can be set up, a research project was designed for future German teachers. Two groups were invited to write academic texts during a Masterâs degree course in applied linguistics. The error analysis of their texts revealed that the students needed assistance in the use of commas in German. A one-day workshop was dedicated to linguistic and technical training focusing on the comma and on corpus tools. Grouped into pairs in order to stimulate verbal interaction, the students explored the comma in a specialised corpus. A deductive approach was instigated for half of the group and an inductive approach for the other half. The research data fell into three different exploration modes. The interactions and the screen casts of the deductive approach group contain stronger evidence of scientific investigation methods and results than those of the inductive approach group
Impact de discussions métalinguistiques sur l'apprentissage de la production écrite en allemand, langue étrangÚre
Nous dĂ©fendons l'idĂ©e que l'apprentissage de la production Ă©crite en langue Ă©trangĂšre peut ĂȘtre soutenu Ă l'aide d'activitĂ©s pĂ©dagogiques inspirĂ©es de mĂ©thodes du domaine de la linguistique, Ă savoir les discussions mĂ©talinguistiques et l'exploration de corpus numĂ©riques. Ces activitĂ©s peuvent contribuer Ă faire Ă©merger les reprĂ©sentations des apprenants, dĂ©clenchĂ©es par des marqueurs linguistiques (Culioli, 2002 : 172), et Ă les modifier si nĂ©cessaire (Matthey, 2010). Nous montrerons comment nous avons intĂ©grĂ© ce type d'activitĂ©s dans un scĂ©nario d'enseignement-apprentissage de l'allemand, basĂ© sur l'exploitation dâun corpus contenant le script de film d'une sĂ©rie tĂ©lĂ©visĂ©e. La tĂąche principale du projet a Ă©tĂ© d'inventer une scĂšne alternative ou supplĂ©mentaire pour le script de film. Les corpus web Ă travers le prisme de lâALMT
Cet article sâintĂ©resse au potentiel des corpus web pour lâenseignement-apprentissage des langues Ă©trangĂšres. Les corpus web sont de trĂšs grands ensembles textuels provenant dâInternet. Leur constitution est largement automatisĂ©e, ce qui entraĂźne certaines caractĂ©ristiques qui peuvent laisser perplexes les spĂ©cialistes de lâapprentissage des langues mĂ©diĂ©es par les technologies (ALMT). Toutefois, les arguments suivants en leur faveur peuvent convaincre non seulement les linguistes, mais aussi les didacticiens : les corpus web contiennent des quantitĂ©s de donnĂ©es trĂšs importantes permettant dâobserver, Ă lâaide dâoutils de statistique textuelle, certaines caractĂ©ristiques de la langue en usage, qui sont moins visibles dans dâautres formes de reprĂ©sentation textuelle. Le mode de production de telles ressources est rationnel et peu coĂ»teux. De plus, il semble lĂ©gitime de les considĂ©rer comme le reflet dâune sociĂ©tĂ© en perpĂ©tuel changement, ayant tendance Ă sâorganiser en rĂ©seaux. Dans cet article, je dĂ©finirai les termes de « corpus pĂ©dagogique », « corpus rĂ©flexif » et « corpus web » et je comparerai les apports des deux derniers pour lâenseignement-apprentissage des langues Ă©trangĂšres. Je terminerai par la prĂ©sentation dâĂ©lĂ©ments dâun scĂ©nario dĂ©diĂ© Ă lâĂ©criture dâune petite annonce destinĂ©e Ă vendre, donner ou Ă©changer un objet. Conçu pour un public de lâenseignement secondaire en quatriĂšme annĂ©e dâapprentissage de lâallemand, ce scĂ©nario fournit le cadre pour lâĂ©valuation du potentiel des corpus web dans un contexte pĂ©dagogique dĂ©terminĂ©.This article focuses on the potential of web corpora for foreign language teaching and learning. Web corpora are big datasets retrieved from the Internet. They are created in a largely automated way, which goes along with characteristics that may confuse researchers specialising in computer-assisted language learning. However, the following claims can convince even applied linguists: web corpora contain very large amounts of data that support, with the help of text statistics tools, the observation of language features which may be hidden in other forms of text representation. The production method of such resources is both efficient and inexpensive. Moreover, they can be considered as the mirror of a perpetually changing society, organized as networks. In this paper, the terms "pedagogical corpus", "reflexive corpus" and "web corpus" will be defined, and the contribution of the latter two for foreign language teaching and learning will be evaluated. I will conclude by presenting elements of a learning scenario dedicated to writing classified ads for selling, giving or exchanging an item. Designed for a secondary school audience in the fourth year of German language learning, this scenario provides the framework for assessing the potential of web corpora in a given pedagogical context
KĂŒnstlerInnen, Mitarbeiter(innen) und Vertreter/-innen: Sprachnormabweichende Formen in Schweizer Behördentexten
Il contributo si inserisce nel quadro di un progetto di ricerca che esamina in che modo le politiche orientate al pari trattamento linguistico di donna e uomo vengono attuate nei testi giuridicoamministrativi della Svizzera plurilingue. Le nostre indagini si basano su un corpus costituito dai testi del Foglio Federale pubblicati nelle tre lingue ufficiali a partire dalla fine del 1800. In questo articolo, ci concentriamo sulle soluzioni linguistiche il cui uso Ăš sconsigliato dalle direttive in lingua tedesca. In particolare, ci chiediamo se le forme non ammesse nei manuali siano attestate nei testi ufficiali e quali possano essere le ragioni di un eventuale scarto tra la teoria e la pratica. La questione Ăš affrontata da tre angolazioni: le forme divergenti rispetto alle norme linguistiche sono rilevate attraverso gli strumenti della linguistica dei corpora; le cause a cui sono riconducibili determinati usi sono indagate a partire da un approccio di linguistica testuale; la prospettiva interna degli attori viene, infine, messa in luce mediante interviste con i responsabili per la redazione di testi burocratici. Le nostre analisi mostrano, da un lato, una generale osservanza delle norme linguistiche; dallâaltro, esse evidenziano come lâattivitĂ di stesura dei testi sia influenzata da una molteplicitĂ di fattori, da cui puĂČ derivare di fatto una prassi eterogenea
Health literacy among different age groups in Germany : results of a cross-sectional survey
BACKGROUND:
Health literacy is of increasing importance in public health research. It is a necessary pre-condition for the involvement in decisions about health and health care and related to health outcomes. Knowledge about limited health literacy in different age groups is crucial to better target public health interventions for subgroups of the population. However, little is known about health literacy in Germany. The study therefore assesses the prevalence of limited health literacy and associated factors among different age groups.
METHODS:
The Health Literacy Survey Germany is a cross-sectional study with 2,000 participants aged 15 years or older in private households. Perceived health literacy was assessed via computer-assisted personal interviews using the HLS-EU-Q-47 questionnaire. Descriptive analyses, chi-square tests and odds ratios were performed stratified for different age groups.
RESULTS:
The population affected by limited perceived health literacy increases by age. Of the respondents aged 15-29 years, 47.3 % had limited perceived health literacy and 47.2 % of those aged 30-45 years, whereas 55.2 % of the respondents aged 46-64 years and 66.4 % aged 65 years and older showed limited perceived health literacy. In all age groups, limited perceived health literacy was associated with limited functional health literacy, low social status, and a high frequency of doctor visits.
CONCLUSIONS:
The results suggest a need to further investigate perceived health literacy in all phases of the life-course. Particular attention should be devoted to persons with lower social status, limited functional health literacy and/or a high number of doctor visits in all age groups
