The main objective of this study was to determine the learning styles and the performances of the Junior High School students in Mathematics from Cebu Province Division under the New Normal during the first quarter of the S.Y. 2020 – 2021 as the basis for Adaptive Learning Engagement Plans. This study employed a quantitative and qualitative research design which utilized a descriptive method using the response of the respondents in a self-made survey questionnaire and an adapted learning preference questionnaire as well as the scores obtained by the respondents from the exam in their Mathematics’ modules. The respondents were the junior high school students in each school through simple random sampling in each grade level. The findings of the study showed that the respondents had an age range appropriate for each grade level. The respondents have moderately good performance in mathematics in the previous school year (2019- 2020). As to learning style, forty-eight percent of the respondents were categorized as visual and the rest were auditory and haptic. Most of the respondents’ scores are average. Results showed that there is a significant correlation between the respondents’ gender, previous grade in mathematics, frequency of studying the lesson, and their learning preference which means they need to be given more attention and design more activities that suits their preference in learning under the new normal. It is hereby recommended that the adaptive learning engagement plans be implemented

Seaweed aquaculture through the lens of gender: Participation, roles, pay and empowerment in Bantayan, Philippines

    Get PDF
Aquaculture is one of the fastest growing food-producing sectors worldwide. Of particular importance is the cultivation of seaweed, particularly in East and Southeast Asia where seaweeds dominate the production market, and are key for coastal communities both as main livelihood source and as alternative or supplementary income to fisheries. Women play a crucial role in various segments of the seaweed aquaculture value chain; yet few researchers have empirically examined the gendered impacts of women’s participation in aquaculture. Using the case study of Bantayan Island, in the Philippines, the objective of this study is to deepen our understanding of the impact of women’s participation in aquaculture by specifically investigating their roles, remuneration and empowerment related to the production node of seaweed aquaculture. Adopting a novel research approach, which combines the outcomes of a focus group discussion and the data collected through two questionnaires, we provide a comprehensive and robust understanding of gender issues in aquaculture. Results of the economic analysis of labour costs indicate that women constitute most of the workforce but are paid less than men; the average gender pay gap is 55.4%. Moreover, our study finds that there is a well-established gendered division of labour in seaweed aquaculture. Greater female participation is not mirrored by more women in leadership roles and decision-making power in the workplace, although participation may have a positive impact on female intrahousehold empowerment. An important contribution of our analysis is to show that gender stereotypes in aquaculture production persist and they affect roles, wages and decision-making power. Acknowledging the fundamental contribution of women in aquaculture can inform the development of gender-sensitive indicators, supporting the measurement of progress towards relevant Targets of the fifth Sustainable Development Goal (“ Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls ”), therefore mainstreaming gender into resource management, and poverty alleviatio

This research evaluates special education teachers' learning styles and technological implementation at SpEd Schools in Mandaue City, Cebu, and Kananga Leyte, both in the Philippines, during the school year 2020–2021. It aimed to determine the Special Education Teachers' learning styles as well as the status of technology implementation of new learning modes during a pandemic. Because of the new setup for the educational platform in Special Education, this research also sought to gather information on the numerous concerns and problems associated with technology deployment, as well as the essential support and assistance in addressing such challenges. This study used a mixed-methods approach. A survey design will be used in quantitative research. Qualitative research, on the other hand, will employ a pragmatic qualitative research approach. Respondents in this study included twenty (20) Special Education Teachers from Mandaue City Central SpEd School - Elementary, ten (10) Special Education Teachers from Mandaue City Central SpEd School - High School, and twenty (20) Special Education Teachers from Kananga Central School. They answered the modified survey form as well as the interview. Frequency count and percentage, weighted mean and standard deviation, Chi-square test of independence, and theme analysis are among the statistical treatments applied to the data. The majority of Special Education teachers are reasonable, proactive, spontaneous, and clear, according to the data. It establishes that computer technology is commonly used for organizational and educational purposes. In general, it shows that a teacher's profile has a significant link to their learning styles, level of technological integration, and process integration. The creation of an intervention strategy is proposed as a solution to this problem

    Get PDF
This research determined the involvement, experiences, and challenges of parents having children with special needs. The narrative inquiry served as the study design, while the interview questionnaire served as the main instrument. Data obtained were transcribed, coded, and analyzed to determine the emerging themes and essence of the study. The results revealed that parents support their children's scholastic activities and allow them to socialize with their peers. Their experiences in raising children with special needs include imposing discipline, teaching them domestic chores, siblings' rivalry, and communication barriers. On the other hand, their challenges include handling situations when their children are experiencing tantrums, feeding, expenses in sending to school, providing instructional materials, discrimination, and bullying. Taking things holistically, it can be concluded that parents of children with special needs immensely involve themselves in all the academic undertakings of their children. They are able to manage the challenges of raising children with special needs and provide them well parental-related care. An implication for practice was designed in hope of helping the parents of children with special needs. Hence, it is recommended that the school adopt the implications for practice and recommendations for parents with special needs so that they can be given foundational knowledge in dealing with their children with special needs.  Article visualizations

Practices of Teachers and Parents of Learners with Special Educational Needs During Pandemic

    No full text
The research focused on the practices of teachers and parents of learners with special educational needs during pandemic employing descriptive-correlational research design. It specifically sought the demographic profile of the teachers and parent-respondents. Using purposive sampling, the respondents of the study consisted of 22 teachers and 26 parents from Academia De Santiago of Tarlac, and Angel Beats Play and Development Center, Manila, Philippines. The frequency count, percentage weighted mean, and correlation analysis were used to treat the data gathered from the survey-questionnaire. Results revealed that that the teacher-respondents “greatly encountered” behavioral problems and “encountered” cognitive development problems in handling LSENs; parent-respondents “encountered” both behavioral and cognitive development problems. There was a “great extent” of practices of teachers while “little extent” in parents’ practices. There was a significant relationship between the demographic profile of the teacher-respondents and the extent of teachers’ practices. Based from the significant findings drawn, this study recommends to upskill teachers’ competencies in handling learners with special education needs. Finally, implementation of the action plan is hereby recommended to improve the behavioral and cognitive aspects of the learners and to further improve practices of teachers and parents of the home-schooled learners with special educational needs during a pandemic and its aftermath
