Structural studies of PrPSc

Elucidation of the structure of PrPSc continues to be one major challenge in prion research. Molecular basis of the biology of prion protein, such as the molecular mechanism of prion replication and aggregation, the species barrier and the pathogenesis of neurodegeneration will not be understood until the structure is solved. Given that high-resolution techniques such as NMR or X-ray crystallography cannot be used, a number of lower resolution analytical approaches have been attempted

XVII Congrés de Geògrafs Espanyols Oviedo, del 31 d'octubre al 3 de novembre de 2001

Del 31 d'octubre al 3 de novembre de 2001 es va celebrar a Oviedo el XVII Congrés de Geògrafs Espanyols, convocat per l'Associació de Geògrafs Espanyols. Enguany, entorn del lema del congrés «Forma i funció del territori en el nou segle», es dissenyaren tres ponències sobre la dinàmica territorial a partir de la representació de l'espai geogràfic, les funcions del medi natural i el desenvolupament local.Del 31 de octubre al 3 de noviembre de 2001 se celebró en Oviedo el XVII Congreso de Geógrafos Españoles, convocado por la Asociación de Geógrafos Españoles. Este año, entorno al lema del congreso «Forma y función del territorio en el nuevo siglo», se diseñaron tres ponencias sobre la dinámica territorial: la representación del espacio geográfico, las funciones del medio natural y el desarrollo local.Du 31 d'octobre au 3 novembre a eu à Oviedo le XVIIème Congrès de Géographes Espagnoles, convoqué par l'Association des Géographes Espagnoles. Cette année, autour le titre du congrès «Forme et fonction du territoire dans le nouveau siècle», on a fait trois sessions du travail sur la dynamique territorial à partir de la représentation de l'espace géographique, les fonctions du milieu naturel et le développement local.From 31th October to 3rd November 2001, it took place in Oviedo the XVII Congress of Spanish Geographers, organised by the Association of Spanish Geographers. En el marc de l'exposició «La construcció de la gran Barcelona: l'obertura de la Via Laietana, 1908-1958», celebrada del 18 de maig al 30 de setembre de 2001, el Museu d'Història de la Ciutat va organitzar el col·loqui La reforma interior de Barcelona, segles XIX i XX, dirigit per l'arquitecte Manel Guàrdia i l'historiador Antoni Nicolau, durant els dies 28 i 29 de setembre de 2001.En el marco de la exposición «La construcción de la gran Barcelona: la apertura de la Via Laietana, 1908-1958», celebrada del 18 de mayo al 30 de septiembre de 2001, el Museo de Historia de la Ciudad organizó el coloquio La reforma interior de Barcelona, siglos XIX y XX, dirigido por el arquitecto Manel Guàrdia y el historiador Antoni Nicolau, durante los días 28 y 29 de septiembre de 2001.Dans le cadre de l'exposition «La construction de la grande Barcelone: l'ouverture de la Via Laietana, 1908-1958», faite entre le 18 Mai et le 30 Septembre de 2001, le Musée d'Histoire de la Cité a organisé le colloque La réforme urbaine de Barcelone, siècles XIX et XX, dirigé par l'architecte Manel Guàrdia et l'historien Antoni Nicolau, pendant le 28 et 29 septembre 2001.As part of the exhibition «Building the Great Barcelona: opening the Via Laietana, 1908- 1958», that took place from 18th May to 30th September 2001, the Museum on the History of the City organized the seminar Urban Reform in Barcelona, 19th-20th centuries. Proyecto de aprendizaje-servicio para abordar los ODS. “Pucelanos en acción: no tenemos planeta b”

Propuesta educativa de un proyecto de aprendizaje-servicio enfocado al tercer curso de segundo ciclo de Educación Infantil. Además de fomentar la innovación educativa, este trabajo aborda temas importantes a los que hay que hacer frente actualmente a través de los objeticos de desarrollo sostenible recogidos en la Agenda 2030. Se diseña un proyecto que se basa sobre todo en cuidado del medio ambiente, con el fin de enfrentarse a problemas existentes en la ciudad y así combatir el calentamiento global que amenaza el planeta. Se conciencia a los más pequeños a través de la experiencia y el acercamiento en primera persona a la realidad social. Durante todo el proceso tienen un papel activo más allá de las puertas del centro educativo y se les demuestra que son piezas imprescindibles para el bienestar del planeta y enseñar a los ciudadanos a actuar a favor de ello.Departamento de Didáctica de las Ciencias Sociales y ExperimentalesGrado en Educación Infanti

Assessment of skin sensitization properties of few-layer graphene and graphene oxide through the Local Lymph Node Assay (OECD TG 442B)

: Skin contact is one of the most common exposure routes to graphene-based materials (GBMs) during their small-scale and industrial production or their use in technological applications. Nevertheless, toxic effects in humans by cutaneous exposure to GBMs remain largely unexplored, despite skin contact to other related materials has been associated with adverse effects. Hence, this in vivo study was carried out to evaluate the cutaneous effects of two GBMs, focusing on skin sensitization as a possible adverse outcome. Skin sensitization by few-layer graphene (FLG) and graphene oxide (GO) was evaluated following the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) guideline 442B (Local Lymph Node Assay; LLNA) measuring the proliferation of auricular lymph node cells during the induction phase of skin sensitization. Groups of four female CBA/JN mice (8-12 weeks) were daily exposed to FLG or GO through the dorsal skin of each ear (0.4-40 mg/mL, equal to 0.01-1.00 mg/ear) for 3 consecutive days, and proliferation of auricular lymph node cells was evaluated 3 days after the last treatment. During this period, no clinical signs of toxicity and no alterations in body weight and food or water consumptions were observed. In addition, no ear erythema or edema were recorded as signs of irritation or inflammation. Bromo-deoxyuridine (BrdU) incorporation in proliferating lymphocytes from ear lymph nodes (stimulation indexes <1.6) and the histological analysis of ear tissues excluded sensitizing or irritant properties of these materials, while myeloperoxidase activity in ear biopsies confirmed no inflammatory cells infiltrate. On the whole, this study indicates the absence of sensitization and irritant potential of FLG and GO
