Electrical Properties of Atomic Layer Deposited Aluminum Oxide on Gallium Nitride
We report on our investigation of the electrical properties of
metal/Al2O3/GaN metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) capacitors. We determined
the conduction band offset and interface charge density of the alumina/GaN
interface by analyzing capacitance-voltage characteristics of atomic layer
deposited Al2O3 films on GaN substrates. The conduction band offset at the
Al2O3/GaN interface was calculated to be 2.13 eV, in agreement with theoretical
predications. A non-zero field of 0.93 MV/cm in the oxide under flat-band
conditions in the GaN was inferred, which we attribute to a fixed net positive
charge density of magnitude 4.60x1012 cm-2 at the Al2O3/GaN interface. We
provide hypotheses to explain the origin of this charge by analyzing the energy
band line-up.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, Applied Physics Letter
The extent of upskilling of the argentine labor market: a simple analysis
Over the last three decades the labor market of most developed countries have experienced a sustained period of upskilling. This means an overall increase in the skill requirement of jobs determined by the demand for skilled labor. This suggests that their labor demand has become more skill intensive, shifting towards skilled workers relatively to unskilled workers. An analysis of job growth of the Argentine labor market between 1997 and 2009 using data from the EPH, evidences a process of deskilling over this period, with serious implications in terms of competitiveness and about issues related to increasing social and economic inequality.
A Kingdom In Trouble
Once upon a time there was a small kingdom of people with a dream. The dream was for a world where children could live free from harm. When any member of the kingdom found a child who had been harmed, the child was brought into the kingdom but those who hurt the child were never allowed in the kingdom .... even if they were childrenonce too! And so the story begins. Child welfare agencies have struggled with finding ways to balance fulfilling their mandate of protecting children while still attending to broader social issues that cause problems for families in the first place. This paper uses story and metaphor to challenge the reader, and those working in child welfare, to consider some of the significant sources of oppression inherent in the work. The purpose of this paper is to examine a small site of practice, located in a social housing neighbourhood, named New Beginnings that seeks to integrate community-based child protection work and community development. The study is based on findings from in-depth interviews with service providers, from both child welfare and other social agencies, affiliated with New Beginnings. The data is interpreted and discussed using a critical framework. Findings indicate that New Beginnings may be an example of innovation and creativity in a very financially restricted time for child welfare. Despite the promise of the program, careful attention must be paid to the extraordinary power that those working with and for the very large kingdom embody. This power cannot be extricated from the practice despite the friendly cover. The change in location, from a centralized to a community site, may create opportunities for relationship development and increased partnerships with neighbours to aid in community capacity building and system reform. However, this location change also has potential to create additional site of surveillance and ultimately greater oppression.Master of Social Work (MSW
DO ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS? TEXTS AND GAMES IN AN EXPERIMENT HELD IN TWO AMERICAN PRISONS.
The thesis presents some of the results of a longitudinal experiment conducted in two U.S. prisons between September 2015 and June 2016. The objective of the analysis is to test the efficacy of studying social preferences in the framework of behavioral Economics and game theory (direct observation of the behaviour of the subjects asked to make choices in real situations), rather than through self-evaluative questionnaires and surveys. In fact, the analysis links the behaviors observed in the games and the explanations given by the subjects. In general it can be said that the behaviors observed in the games are not always sufficient to highlight the social preferences of the subjects, as well as, moreover, are not the narrative answers. The conclusion that comes from the elaborate is that direct observation of the behaviors and analysis of the personal narratives of the subjects are two equally important tools in the study social preferences and that, far from being mutually exclusive, they complement each other
An "Ecosystem of Entrepreneurialisation"? An interpretative approach to the transformation of the third Sector
Since the early 2000s scholars have observed a tendency, within the third sector, to combine social values and market objectives in new hybrid configurations. This entrepreneurial turn of non-profit organisations (NPOs) has intersected another historical trajectory of change: their integration in the provision and governance of human and social services. The research contributes to the debate on the transformation of the third sector by addressing the relationship between these two trajectories of change. An interpretative tool is devised, drawing upon public policy research and new discursive institutionalism. To exemplify the interpretative approach, a case study of social entrepreneurship rooted in southern Italian local communities is explored. The research helps building an explanation of the transformation of the third sector centred on the evolving and interactive policy context in which NPOs are embedded, presently resembling an “ecosystem of entrepreneurialisation”
