RELATIVE ERROR ANALYSIS DURING REPRODUCTION OF ISOMETRIC FORCE OF KNEE EXTENSORS IN YOUNG ADULTS

    Get PDF
This study compared the force reproduction of isometric knee extension at 60°, between the target forces at 30%, 50% and 70% of the maximum voluntary isometric force (MVIF) in young adults. Twenty young males took part in the study. The trials were performed on an instrumented chair developed for the study. Feedback was given to the participants during three trials prior the beginning of data collection in each analyzed target force. Participants performed 10 trials without any feedback for the target force at 30% and 50% of the MVIF and 3 trials for the target force at 70% of MVIF. The relative error decreased as the target force increased. The differences were significant between 30% and 70% (p=0.01) and between 50% and 70% (p=0.03). The reproduction of higher forces during isometric extension of the knee will produce lower relative errors for this specific task

Wide serological prevalence of influenza A and B was verified by the serological survey covering 200 students of the University of S. Paulo during the 1984-1985 period. The humoral antibodies were detected by the single radial haemolysis technique, whose arithmetic titres averages were greater for both subtypes, (H1N1) and (H3N2) of the influenza A virus strains recently isolated from the population. However, the situation of this type B virus was not the same as that of type A seeing that the B/Engl/ 847/73, although an older strain, showed better reactogenicity than the other strains evaluated. It is possible that is was responsible for the primo infection of most of the components of the group surveyed, as the phenomenon of the "Original Antigenic Sin" explains. The antibody responses to subtypes of influenza A and B in this survey demonstrated levels with low SRH titres (2.5 to 3.5 mm) and high SRH titres (>; 4.0mm) related to the lowest and highest levels of suggest protection against infection. Individual immunity and persistence of antibody are related to frequency and recent occurrence of exposition to influenza. As concerns the formulation of influenza vaccine it was established that this preserves the antigen selection of the new strains isolated from the population, mainly due to the behavior of the influenza A virus

An Antibiotic Protocol To Minimize Emergence Of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis

The final publication is available at Elsevier via http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.physa.2013.12.039 © 2014. This manuscript version is made available under the CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 license https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/A within-host model of the spread of tuberculosis is proposed here where the emergence of drug resistance and bacterial dormancy are simultaneously combined. We consider both sensitive and resistant strains of tuberculosis pathogens as well as a dormant state of these bacteria. The dynamics of the within-host system is modeled by a set of coupled differential equations which are numerically solved to find a relation between the within-host bacterial populations and the host health states. The values of the parameters were taken from the current literature when available; a sensitivity analysis was performed for the others. Antibiotic treatment for standard, intermittent and oscillating intermittent protocols is analyzed for different conditions. Our results suggest that the oscillating protocol is the most effective one, that would imply a lower treatment cost.Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)Brazilian agency CNPq [305738/2010-0, 127151/2012-5]FAPERJCAPE
