    Micronized bran enriched fresh egg tagliatelle: significance of gums addition on pasta technological features

    [EN] The aim of the work was to produce fibre-enriched fresh pasta based on micronised wheat bran and durum wheat semolina with appropriate techno-functional properties. Wheat semolina was replaced with fine particle size (50% below 75 mu m) wheat bran - up to 11.54% (w/w). A Box-Behnken design with randomised response surface methodology was used to determine a suitable combination of carboxymethylcellulose, xanthan gum and locust bean gum to improve pasta attributes: minimum cooking loss, maximum values for water gain and swelling index, as well as better colour and texture characteristics before and after cooking. The proximate chemical composition of wheat semolina and bran was determined and the microstructure of uncooked pasta was observed as well.     Neonatal spontaneous biliary perforation: Case report

    AbstractObjectiveSpontaneous biliary perforation in neonates is rare. The etiology of this pathology is idiopathic and various management strategies ranging from non-operative treatment to complex operations, such as biliary-enteric reconstruction, are performed, with few reported outcomes.Case reportA 3-week-old female, born at term, presented fever, abdominal distension, and acholic stool. An ultrasound was performed, which revealed generalized ascites and a poorly-defined collection. An emergency laparotomy confirmed perforation in the distal common bile duct and a biliary-enteric-anastomosis was performed.DiscussionWide drainage has been reported as the best initial management strategy for spontaneous biliary perforation, although it depends on the patient's clinical status and intraoperative findings.ConclusionsSpontaneous infantile biliary perforation is rare. Main management is wide drainage with, most perforations being resolved in 2 weeks

    Modelling the strongest silicate emission features of local type 1 AGN

    We measure the 10 and 18ÎŒ18\mum silicate features in a sample of 67 local (z<0.1z<0.1) type 1 active galactic nuclei (AGN) with available {\it Spitzer} spectra dominated by non-stellar processes. We find that the 10ÎŒ10\mum silicate feature peaks at 10.3−0.9+0.7ÎŒ10.3^{+0.7}_{-0.9}\mum with a strength (Sip_{p} = ln fp_{p}(spectrum)/fp_{p}(continuum)) of 0.11−0.36+0.150.11^{+0.15}_{-0.36}, while the 18ÎŒ18\mum one peaks at 17.3−0.7+0.4ÎŒ17.3^{+0.4}_{-0.7}\mum with a strength of 0.14−0.06+0.060.14^{+0.06}_{-0.06}. We select from this sample sources with the strongest 10ÎŒ\mum silicate strength (σSi10ÎŒm>0.28\sigma_{Si_{10\mu m}}>0.28, 10 objects). We carry out a detailed modeling of the IRS/{\it Spitzer} spectra by comparing several models that assume different geometries and dust composition: a smooth torus model, two clumpy torus models, a two-phase medium torus model, and a disk+outflow clumpy model. We find that the silicate features are well modeled by the clumpy model of Nenkova et al. 2008, and among all models those including outflows and complex dust composition are the best (Hoenig et al. 2017). We note that even in AGN-dominated galaxies it is usually necessary to add stellar contributions to reproduce the emission at the shortest wavelengths.Comment: Accepted for publication in Ap

    Biodiversity of Gastropod in the Southeastern Gulf of California, Mexico

    Currently, studying the environment is important because of the phenomena that take place on the earth every day. That is why it is a priority to carry out studies that relate environmental changes to the biology of organisms. This allows us to know the interactions with the environment, and in this way solve, reduce or prevent ecological and economic problems, if they are organisms with a commercial value. The objective of this investigation is to determine ecological parameters of the gastropod community from the intertidal zone on five islands from the Gulf of California, MĂ©xico, to model the diversity, distribution and abundance of malacological fauna. We considered to evaluate the Shannon-Wiener diversity (Hâ€Č), Pielou’s of evenness (J) and the Margalef species richness indexes, in order to evaluate through an analysis from biotic and abiotic factors, the species status that was collected from the exposed and non-exposed zone tidal. The generated data were contemplated from a year-based biodiversity project (2016–2017) on the following islands: Patos, Bledos, Bleditos, Tunosa, and Mazocahui which belong to the Ohuira lagoon in Ahome, Sinaloa, southeast of the Gulf of California, MĂ©xico.     Detection of Bartonella bovis DNA in blood samples from a veterinarian in Mexico

    The genus Bartonella encompasses 38 validated species of Gram-negative, facultative intracellular bacteria that colonize the endothelial cells and erythrocytes of a wide spectrum of mammals. To date, 12 Bartonella species have been recorded infecting humans, causing diseases of long historical characterization, such as cat scratch fever and trench fever, and emerging bartonellosis that mainly affect animal health professionals. For this reason, this study aimed to report a documented case of Bartonella bovis infecting a veterinarian from Mexico by the amplification, sequencing and phylogenetic reconstruction of the citrate synthase (gltA) and the RNA polymerase beta-subunit (rpoB) genes, and to report the natural course of this infection. To our knowledge, this work is the first to report the transmission of B. bovis via needlestick transmission to animal health workers in Latin America
