    The Sorption Behavior of Cs+ ion On Clay Minerals and Zeolite in Radioactive Waste Managemen: Sorption Kinetics and Themodynamics

    Cataloged from PDF version of article.In this work, Cs+ ion sorption on some clays and zeolite were investigated. Cs-137 was used as a tracer. Activities were measured with a NaI crystal gamma counter. The particle size distribution was determined by a laser sizer. Surface area of the particles were determined by BET (Brunauer, Emmett and Teller method). Structure analysis was made by using X-ray diffraction. The chemical compositions of the solid samples were determined using a ICAP-OE spectrometer. Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters were determined. Due to very high uptake results; clay and zeolite can be proposed as a good sorbents in waste management considerations

    Volatility Spillovers in Emerging Markets During the Global Financial Crisis: Diagonal BEKK Approach

    The fundamental aim of the paper is to analyze the presence and magnitude of the volatility transmissions in emerging markets, namely India, Hungary, Poland, Turkey and Brazil prior to, and during the latest financial turmoil. Using weekly returns of stock market indices from 2005 to 2011, the study applies Multivariate BEKK Methodology. The empirical results indicate that there exist significant volatility spillover effects for all five countries, though the spillovers are not homogeneous across the pairs. Results exhibit very large GARCH and relatively low ARCH effects. The study provides evidence of high level of financial integration in emerging markets. From an investor perspective, one important implication is that adding stocks from different emerging markets to a porfolio does not lead to risk reduction

    Yeast biota of naturally fermented black olives in different brines made from cv. Gemlik grown in various districts of the Cukurova region of Turkey

    In this study, the yeast microbiota of naturally fermented black olives made from cv. Gemlik, grown in three different districts of the Çukurova region of Turkey, were investigated. Fermentations were conducted for 180 days in three different brines, including NaCl 10% w/v, NaCl 8% w/v and NaCl 8% w/v added with glucose 0.5%. In total, 223 yeasts were isolated and then identified by PCR–RFLP analysis of the 5.8S ITS rRNA region and sequence information for the D1/D2 domains of the 26S rRNA gene. A broad range of yeast biodiversity was identified, including eight genera and nine species. Candida boidinii (41%), Wickerhamomyces anomalus (32%) and Saccharomyces sp. (18%) were predominant yeasts throughout the fermentations. To a lesser extent, the other species, Candida aaseri, Meyerozyma sp., Zygoascus hellenicus, Pichia kudriavzevii, Schwanniomyces etchellsii and Candida atlantica were also members of the olive-fermenting microbiota. In Tarsus and Bahçe districts C. boidinii and in Serinyol district Saccharomyces sp. were the most frequently identified species. W. anomalus was the most frequently isolated species (by 48% of total yeasts) in NaCl 10% brines. C. boidinii was the most dominant species in the brines, including NaCl 8% and NaCl 8% + glucose 0.5%, with frequencies of 42% and 61%, respectively. At the end of the 180 days of fermentation, total acidity values of the brines were in the range 1.04–8.1 g/l lactic acid. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd

    Coping stress is a method used by individuals to overcome situations or problems that are considered as challenges, injustices that can be detrimental as a threat. Coping stress is interpreted as an effort of students in dealing with stress in playing a role in the world of lectures and work. The purpose of this study is to find out the description of coping stress that is most widely used by final students who work part time in undergoing roles in lectures and work. Research subjects amounted 100 students using the Coping stress scale as a measure of coping stress. The results showed that UMM students did stress coping quite well with the highest average score category in the Active emotional coping category with a mean value of 33.27 with Emotional adjustment aspects such as adjusting and daring to be positive and emotional outburst like distracting, change emotions, and look for external resources to adjust emotions or find methods to relieve stres

    Identification and characterization of 3.8 min 134mI

    The [gamma]-ray spectra of iodine fractions rapidly separated from the products of slow neutron fission of 235U were studied. A 3.8 +/- 0.2 min species was found and was identified as 134mI from observations of corresponding growth in the intensities of the prominent 847 and 884 keV [gamma]-rays of 53 min 134I. This isomer is analogous to the 2.9 h isomer 134mCs and decays by the sequence 134mI (J[pi] = 8-)(J[pi] = 5+)134I (J[pi] = 4+) by transitions of and 44.4 +/- 0.1 keV(), respectively. For a 316 keV cross-over [gamma]-ray an upper limit of 1 % was obtained, and is near the intensity predicted by M4 systematics. A low-intensity [gamma]-ray of 234.3 +/- 0.5 keV was found This [gamma]-ray is interpreted as evidence for [beta]-decay (2%) of the isomer, possibly to the 0.29 sec 7- isomeric level in 134Xe.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/34159/1/0000445.pd
