In the present study, mechanical properties of 0.25Li(2)O.2SiO(2)-0.75BaO.2SiO(2) glass-ceramic were investigated. The transformations temperatures were determined by DTA instrument. The optimum nucleation temperature was found to be 540 degrees C. This suggested the crystallization temperatures as 675, 720 and 800 degrees C. After carrying out crystallization heat treatments, Vickers indentation test was applied. In order to determine the indentation fracture toughness (KIC), crack half-length, 'c' of the samples was measured. To calculate KIC, Young's modulus, E and the measured hardness, Hv were used. Using KIC and probability of fracture, 'P', ln ln[1/(1-P)]-ln KIC graph was drawn based on the Weibull distribution equation. Consequently, Weibull modulus,, m` and scale parameter, 'K-0' were determined and compared with each other

Alumina is a biomaterial of choice for more than 20 years due to its high hardness accompanied by low friction, wear and inertness to in vivo environment. It has been reported that titanium oxidized to the rutile phase is bioactive. This is a property discovered for certain ceramics such as Bioglass and sintered hydroxylapatite (HA). But the combination of alumina and titania forming tialite (Aluminium titanate-50 mol % Al2O3 and 50 mol % TiO2) is a new challenge. In this work we made firstly the beneficiation of the Seydisehir alumina by leaching it in the acidic solution the Aqua Regia followed by preparation of batches containing 2,5 wt %, 3,5 wt % and 4,5 wt % of MgO as the sintering aid, 1 wt % of SiO2 and the balance; the alumina and titania powder mixture (1:1 mole). After sintering these batches at 1600 degrees C for about 12 h, their mechanical properties (the compression and hardness testings) and phase ratios (the XRD analysis) were analyzed and compared with the control group containing the laboratory scale alumina instead of the Seydisehir alumina. Following the characterization (the SEM and the EDS analysis) of the substrate material, the comparison of two different materials was carried out

The social structure and class conflicts caused by the Industrial Revolution were the main sources of first social movements. In the 20th Century, as the conflict issues moved towards the third generation human rights axis, among new social movements which came up around cultural and social issues, ecological movements were the ones with an intense number of participants. Ecological movements which started as isolated attempts, extended their struggle arena considering the networking opportunities enabled by technological developments. This research aims to analyze the social network usage of ecological organizations which operate in Turkey. An in depth analysis of Twitter use of ecological groups has been made including their purposes, frequencies of Twitter usage, prominent environmental issues and actors. Content analysis has been used in order to determine the differences and similarities in Twitter using practices and to find out the prominent issues. On the other hand, relationships among actors who are active on the ecological network has been determined by social network analysis. The sample of the study has been formed by taking Ecology Union, formed by the gathering of 55 local ecological organizations, as its framework. The social network analysis reveals that the Ecology Union has limited effect in the network and Northern Forests Defence (Kuzey Ormanlari Savunmasi) is the most dominant actor. Through content analysis, it has been observed that ecological organizations use Twitter mostly to form ecological agenda and to inform their followers about the platform's actions and related developments. However, genuine tweets posted are limited. Another outcome of the research is that in Turkey's ecological network, Twitter is used only to a limited extend to activate masses

    No full text
Our understanding of cell biology and its integration with materials science has led to technological innovations in the bioengineering of tissue-mimicking grafts that can be utilized in clinical and pharmaceutical applications. Bioengineering of native-like multiscale building blocks provides refined control over the cellular microenvironment, thus enabling functional tissues. In this review, we focus on assembling building blocks from the biomolecular level to the millimeter scale. We also provide an overview of techniques for assembling molecules, cells, spheroids, and microgels and achieving bottom-up tissue engineering. Additionally, we discuss driving mechanisms for self- and guided assembly to create micro-to-macro scale tissue structures

regarding demand and supply-side policies. In this manner, predictive analysis of the demanded power accuracy is carried out to boost profits and increase the penetration of similar demand response (DR) programs across all levels of end-user categories. Residential loads experience stiff spikes and unpredictable variations due to occupancy activities and environmental factors. To address this, we first propose a robust short-term multivariate-multistep forecasting framework that is resilient to missing or erroneous data, employing temporal convolution networks (TCNs). We then incorporate two distinct valley-filling indices to optimize the charging of electric vehicle loads according to DR requirements, showcasing the efficacy of leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance the utilization of clean energy resources. Simulation studies are conducted using real-world nodal residential loads with hourly granularity. The results demonstrate that the forecasting method is reliable for residential locations, even when dealing with highly damaged data. The case studies effectively fill the load into the valleys and minimize fluctuations in residential locations. Through the integration of emission- aware forecasting and optimization strategies, our study lays the groundwork for a comprehensive approach that not only improves economic outcomes and grid stability but also advances the imperative of reducing carbon emissions

Primary central incisors were divided into three groups (n = 20). Labial surfaces in each group were irradiated by Er,Cr:YSGG laser within different power and frequencies as following groups: I: 0.25 W, 20 Hz, II: 0.50 W, 20 Hz, III: 0.75 W, 20 Hz. A thermocouple was placed inside the pulp chamber so that the temperature increments were recorded during the enamel irradiation. Morphological changes of enamel surfaces were experimentally evaluated by SEM. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and RAMAN analyses were carried out to determine the differentiations in the molecular structure. The experimental results obtained were analyzed statistically by means of one-way analysis of variance. Statistically significant differences were detected between groups (p < .05). Group III exhibited the highest values for the temperature parameters. Besides, the conical craters, cracks, and formation of ablation areas were observed for all the groups. Also, it was obtained that the hydroxyapatite lost the hydroxyl ions due to the thermal effect of the laser. Temperature rise throughout the Er,Cr:YSGG laser irradiation for prevention of primary enamel demineralization presented a positive correlation with the laser output power level. The formations of adverse morphological and spectral changes were detected on the surface of teeth after the laser application. On this basis, the Er,Cr:YSGG laser applications should be treated with much more caution considering enamel surface and pulpal tissues in primary teeth
