A hybrid architecture for robust parsing of german
This paper provides an overview of current research on a hybrid and robust parsing architecture for the morphological, syntactic and semantic annotation of German text corpora. The novel contribution of this research lies not in the individual parsing modules, each of which relies on state-of-the-art algorithms and techniques. Rather what is new about the present approach is the combination of these modules into a single architecture. This combination provides a means to significantly optimize the performance of each component, resulting in an increased accuracy of annotation

Rule-Based Dynamic Modification of Workflows in a Medical Domain
A major limitation of current workflow systems is their lack of supporting dynamic workflow modifications. However, this functionality is a major requirement for next-generation systems in order to provide sufficient flexibility to cope with unexpected situations and failures. For example, our experience with data intensive medical domains such as cancer therapy shows that the large number of medical exceptions is hard to manage for domain experts. We therefore have developed a rule- based approach for partially automated management of semantic exceptions during workflow instance execution. When an exception occurs, we automatically determine which running workflow instances w.r.t. which workflow regions are affected, and adjust the control flow. Rules are being used to detect semantic exceptions and to decide which activities have to be dropped or added. For dynamic modification of an affected workflow instance, we provide two algorithms (drcd-and p-algorithm) which locate appropriate deletion or insertion points and carry out the dynamic change of control flow
Nonuniformity of the Expansion for Two-Dimensional Models
We point out that the expansion, which is widely invoked to infer
properties of the models, is nonuniform in the temperature, i.e.
with decreasing temperature the expansion truncated at a fixed order
deviates more and more from the true answer. This fact precludes the use of the
expansion to deduce low temperature properties such as asymptotic scaling for
those models. By contrast, in the chains, there are no signs of

Dealing with Logical Failures for Collaborating Workflows
Logical failures occurring during workflow execution require the dynamic
adaptation of affected workflows. The consequences such a dynamic adaptation may have for collaborating workflows have not yet been investigated sufficiently. We propose a rule-based approach for dynamic workflow adaptation to deal with logical failures. In our approach, workflow collaboration is based on agreements specifying the delivery time and quality of objects a workflow expects from its collaboration partners. Our mechanisms decide which collaborating workflows have to be informed when a dynamic adaptation is performed. In particular, we estimate the temporal and qualitative implications a dynamic adaptation has for collaboration partners.
Because of the automated handling of logical failures, we expect that our approach significantly improves the robustness and correctness of collaborating
workflows. The approach has been developed in the context of collaborative workflow-based care for cancer patients
Adaptive Guideline-based Treatment Workflows with AdaptFlow
One goal in modern medicine is to increase the treatment quality. A major step towards this aim is to support the execution of standardized, guideline-based clinical protocols, which are used in many medical domains, e.g., for oncological chemotherapies. Standardized chemotherapy protocols contain detailed and structured therapy plans describing the single therapy steps (e.g., examinations or drug applications). Therefore, workflow management systems offer good support for these processes. However, the treatment of a particular patient often requires modifications due to unexpected infections, toxicities, or social factors. The modifications are described in the treatment protocol but not as part of the standard process. To be able to further execute the therapy workflows in case of exceptions running workflows have to be adapted dynamically. Furthermore, the physician should be supported by automated exception detection and decision support for derivation of necessary modifications. The AdaptFlow prototype
offers the required support for the field of oncological chemotherapies by enhancing a workflow system with dynamic workflow adaptation and rule based decision support for exception detection and handling
An Integrative and Uniform Model for Metadata Management in Data Warehousing Environment
Due to the increasing complexity of data warehouses, a centralized and declarative management of metadata is essential for data warehouse administration, maintenance and usage. Metadata are usually divided into technical and semantic metadata. Typically, current approaches only support subsets of these metadata types, such as data movement metadata or multidimensional metadata for OLAP. In particular, the interdependencies between
technical and semantic metadata have not yet been investigated sufficiently. The representation of these interdependencies form an important prerequisite for the translation of queries formulated at the business concept level to executable queries on physical data. Therefore, we suggest a uniform and integrative model
for data warehouse metadata. This model uses a uniform representation approach based on the Uniform Modeling Language (UML) to integrate technical and semantic metadata and their interdependencies
Donor deferral rates after the implementation of a new German blood donor questionnaire
Background: The implementation of a new national German blood donor questionnaire was proposed to improve donor and recipient safety. Methods: We compared deferral/exclusion rates of whole blood donors before (May 2010, n = 64,735)
and after (May 2011, n = 71,687) the implementation of a new
blood donor questionnaire. Considering seasonal variations,
analysis was performed with respect to collection site (mobile vs. fixed), sex, donor status (first-time vs. repeat), age, and the frequencies of sexual risk behavior and other reasons for deferral. Results: We observed a statistically significant increase (p < 0.001) of the overall deferral/exclusion rate from 6.2 to 8.1%, irrespective of type of collection site (fixed: from 6.0 to
8.5%; mobile: from 6.2 to 8.0%), sex (females: from 7.5 to 9.9%; males: from 5.1 to 6.6%), donor status (first-time donors: from 19.7 to 24.7%; repeat donors: from 4.6 to 6.3%) or age (18–29 years: from 9.1 to 11.7%; 60–71 years: from 5.1 to 6.6%). Confidential self-exclusion increased from 0.08 to 0.14% (p < 0.001). Besides risk behavior, various medical reasons could be identified that explain this increase. Conclusions: The new blood donor questionnaire resulted in an increased deferral/exclusion of all donor groups. Thus the impact on future blood supply
must be considered carefully, and long-term studies and
investigation of donor acceptance will be needed
