    Coronary Vasospasm After 5-Fluorouracil Therapy: Case Report

    Miyokard disfonksiyonu, perikardit, aritmiler ve akut koroner sendromlar 5-Florourasil (5-FU) tedavisinin yan etkileri olarak bildirilmiştir. 43 yaşında erkek hasta 1 saat önce başlayan göğüs ağrısı nedeniyle hastaneye başvurdu. Hastanın kardiyak öyküsü veya herhangi bir kardiyak risk faktörü yoktu. Hasta kolon karsinom tanısıyla 1 gün önce onkoloji bölümünde 5-FU tedavi almış. Anteriyor ve inferiyor derivasyonlarda ST segment yükselmesi mevcuttu. Hasta akut koroner sendrom kabul edilerek medikal tedavi başlandı ve daha sonra acil koroner anjiografi planlandı. Koroner anjiografi normaldi. İntravenöz nitrat tedavi altındayken hastanın göğüs ağrısı geçti ve EKG’deki ST yüksekliği geriledi. Kardiyak enzimler normal sınırlardaydı. Ekokardiyografide segment hareket bozukluğu yoktu. Hasta 5-FU e bağlı vazospastik angina kabul edildi ve ertesi gün taburcu edildi. Sonuç olarak 5-FU tedavi sonrası akut koroner sendrom gelişebilir. Özellikle kardiyak öyküsü olmayan hastalarda, sıklıkla vazospasmla ilişkilidir ve vazodilatör tedaviye iyi cevap vermektedir.Myocardial dysfunction, pericarditis, arrhythmias and acute coronary syndromes (ACS) are reported as advers effect of 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU). A 43 year-old man admitted to hospital with a chest pain one hour. He had no history of cardiac disease, and also had no any cardiovasculer risk factors. The patient had history of colon carcinoma. One day ago, 5-FU was given as chemotherapy regimen at oncology department. There was ST segment elevation on anterior and inferior derivations. He was initially managed as an acute coronary syndrome and emergency coronary angiography was then performed and it was normal. While introvenous nitroglycerin, the chest pain disappeared and ECG elevation regressed. Cardiac markers were within the normal ranges. There was no any wall motion abnormality on echocardiography. He was accepted vasospastic angina according to 5-FU and discharged after one day. Consequently, after 5-FU therapy, acute coronary syndrome may become. Frequently, it is associated with vasospasm especially patients with no cardiac history, and it response to vasodilator therapy well

    Condylar Asymmetry in Patients with Unilateral Mandibular Second Premolar Agenesis

    Aim:To investigate the condylar and ramal vertical asymmetry in patients with unilateral mandibular second premolar agenesis.Subjects and Methods:Study group included 58 patients (25 female, 33 males) with unilateral mandibular second premolar agenesis and a control group of 57 patients (41 females, 16 males); both with Class I skeletal and dental relationship. Condylar, ramal, and condylar plus ramal heights were computed in both side and compared by means of paired t-test. Additionally, the asymmetry indices in the study and control groups were compared by means of the Student's t-test.Results:No statistically significant sex difference was found for any of the asymmetry indices and thus the data for males and females were pooled for statistical analyses. According to the side comparison, the condylar, ramal, and condylar plus ramal heights were smaller in the agenesis side than in the normal side for the study group. However, this difference was not statistically significant. Regarding to the asymmetry indices, the patients with unilateral mandibular second premolar agenesis had more asymmetric condyles than did the control group (p < .01).Conclusion:Although condylar, ramal, and condylar plus ramal heights were smaller in the agenesis side than in the normal side for the study group, this difference was not statistically significant

    Investigation of relationship between IL-6 gene variants and hypertension in Turkish population

    Hypertension (HT) is a common and life threating health problem worldwide leading to stroke, heart attack and renal failure. It is characterized by elevated blood pressure forced heart load. Human interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C- reactive protein (CRP) are known to be involved in inflammatory processes. IL-6 gene is a polymorphic gene which -174 G/C is a common and -572 G/C is a rare polymorphisms identified in promoter region. Publications on IL-6 gene polymorphisms raised the question whether this gene polymorphisms lead to susceptibility to HT or not. To investigate the effects of IL-6 gene -174 G/C (rs 1800795) and -572 G/C (rs1800796) polymorphisms on plasma IL-6 and CRP levels and their associations with hypertension disease in Turkish population we analyzed -174 G/C and -572 G/C polymorphisms and plasma IL-6 and CRP levels in 111 healthy controls and 108 hypertension patients from Adyaman, Turkey. We determined the genotypes using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism and analyzed plasma levels of IL-6 by ELISA and CRP by automated standard biochemical methods. We have found no statistically significant differences between IL-6 gene -174 G/C and -572 G/C genotypes and allelic frequencies and IL-6 and CRP plasma levels and HT (p > 0.05). No CC genotype was found in control subjects for -572 G/C polymorphism. In conclusion, we found relation to -174 G/C and -572 G/C gene variants between neither IL-6 and CRP levels nor hypertension. The -572 G allele and GG genotype are predominant in Turkish population in Adyaman, Turkey whereas the CC genotype is very rare.This study was supported by a grant of the Research Foundation of Adiyaman University (FEFYL/2012-0002), Turkey

    Karadeniz’de avlanan çaça (Sprattus sprattus L.) ve hamsi (Engraulis encrasicolus, L.) balıklarının büyüme parametreleri ve ölüm oranlarının tahmini

    Length composition of anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus, L.) and sprat (Sprattus sprattus L.), important small pelagic species of Black Sea, were determined in this study. Growth parameters and mortality rates for anchovy and sprat, using length composition data of fishes, were estimated. A total of 150 tons anchovy and 75 tons sprat (225 tons fish) were caught end of the 13 midwater trawl tows in the study. Length of 1516 numbers anchovy and 4214 numbers sprat were measured in the study. Maximum, minimum and average length of species were established 15.2 cm, 5.2 cm, 11.28±0.04 cm; 12.8 cm, 5.7 cm, 8.5±0.01 cm respectively.Growth and population parameters of anchovy and sprat were calculated; asymptotic length (L∞) 17.01 cm, 13.38 cm, Brody growth coefficient (K) 0.28, 0.23; instantaneous rate of mortality (Z) 2.73 year-1, 2.88 year-1; rate of natural mortality (M) 0.41 year-1, 0.52 year-1, rate of fishing mortality (F) 2.18 year-1, 1.51 year-1, exploitation rate (E) 0.80 year-1, 0.82 year-1 respectively. Growth and population parameters, calculated by the length composition for species, were compared with other studies.Bu çalışmada Karadeniz’in önemli küçük pelajik türleri olan hamsi (Engraulis encrasicolus, L.) ve çaça (Sprattus sprattus L.) balıklarının boy kompozisyonu verileri kullanılarak büyüme parametreleri ve ölüm oranları tahmin edilmiştir. Araştırmada 13 ortasu trol ağı çekimi yapılarak 150 tonu hamsi, 75 tonu çaça olmak üzere toplam 225 ton balık avlanmıştır. Yapılan örneklemede 1516 adet hamsi ve 4214 adet çaça balığının boyu ölçülmüştür. Türlerin maksimum, minimum ve ortalama boyları sırasıyla 15.2 cm, 5.2 cm, 11.28± 0.04 cm; 12.8 cm, 5.7 cm, 8.5± 0.01 cm olarak tespit edilmiştir. Hamsi ve çaçanın büyüme ve populasyon parametreleri sırasıyla; asimptotik boy (L∞) 17.01 cm, 13.38 cm; büyüme katsayısı (K) 0.28, 0.23; anlık ölüm katsayısı (Z) 2.73 yıl-1, 2.88 yıl-1; doğal ölüm katsayısı (M) 0.41 yıl-1, 0.52 yıl-1, balıkçılık ölüm oranı (F) 2.18 yıl-1, 1.51 yıl-1 ve sömürülme oranı (E) 0.80 yıl-1, 0.82 yıl-1 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Türler için boy kompozisyonundan hesaplanan büyüme ve populasyon parametreleri yapılan diğer çalışmaların sonuçları ile karşılaştırılmıştır

    Tümör mikroçevresinde CD8’in yüksek ekspresyonu, yüksek dereceli seröz over kanserinde PD-1 ekspresyonu ve hasta sağkalımı ile ilişkilidir

    Objective: The current study assesss programmed death-1 (PD-1) receptor expression and CD3, CD4, and CD8 tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) and to associate our results with neoadjuvant chemotherapy history and disease prognosis. Materials and Methods: We included cases diagnosed with primary HGSOC with biopsy or surgical resection materials in this study. The immunoreactivity of CD3, CD4, CD8, and PD1 was assessed immunohistochemically in tumor tissue. We analyzed TILs in two predetermined groups of high and low TIL. The relationships between clinical characteristics, PD-1, and TIL were assessed. by the χ(2) test or Fisher’s Exact test. We used Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox proportional hazards regression model to the connection between survival and the amounts of TIL, and PD1. Results: Univariate analysis demonstrated that optimal debulking (p<0.001), early International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage (p=0.046), and higher scores of stromal CD8+ TIL expression (p=0.028) in tumor cells were all substantially correlated with longer disease-free survival (DFS), whereas the remaining variables analyzed, including PD-1 positivity, stromal CD3+, and CD4+ TILs, and intraepithelial CD3+, CD4+, and CD8+ TILs, were not correlated with DFS. Also, univariate analysis revealed that optimal debulking (p=0.010), and higher scores of stromal CD8+ TIL expression (p=0.021) in tumor cells were all substantially correlated with longer overall survival (OS). Conclusion: Higher scores of stromal CD8+ TILs are substantially correlated with DFS and OS in univariate analyses, whereas scores of stromal CD3+ and CD4+ TILs, and intraepithelial CD3+, CD4+, and CD8+ TILs are not correlated with DFS and OS in both univariate and multivariate analyses. Also, we found a significant association between PD-1 positivity and the scores of stromal CD3+ TILs and intraepithelial CD8+ TILs. However, no remarkable relationship was revealed between PD-1 positivity and the survival of HGSOC cases.Amaç: Çalışmamızın amacı, yüksek dereceli seröz over kanserinde (HGSOC) programlanmış ölüm-1 (PD-1) reseptör ekspresyonunu ve CD3, CD4 ve CD8 tümör infiltre edici lenfositleri (TIL) değerlendirmek ve bulgularımızın neoadjuvan kemoterapi öyküsü ve hastalık prognozu ile ilişkisini incelemektir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Biyopsi veya cerrahi rezeksiyon materyalleri ile primer HGSOC tanısı alan olgular çalışmaya dahil edildi. CD3, CD4, CD8 ve PD1’in immünoreaktivitesi, tümör dokusunda immünohistokimyasal olarak değerlendirildi. TIL, önceden tanımlanmış iki grup olan düşük ve yüksek TIL grubunda analiz edildi. Klinik özellikler, PD-1 ve TIL arasındaki ilişkiler χ(2) testi veya Fisher’s Exact test ile değerlendirildi. TIL, PD1 ve hayatta kalma arasındaki ilişki için Kaplan-Meier hayatta kalma analizi ve Cox oransal hazard regresyon modeli kullanıldı. Bulgular: Tek değişkenli analiz, tümör hücrelerinde optimal debulking (p<0,001), erken Uluslararası Jinekoloji ve Obstetrik Federasyonu evresi (p=0,046) ve daha yüksek stromal CD8+ TIL ekspresyonu skorlarının (p=0,028) tümünün daha uzun hastalıksız sağkalım (DFS) ile önemli ölçüde ilişkili olduğunu gösterdi; oysa ki kalan değişkenler, PD-1 pozitifliği, stromal CD3+ ve CD4+ TIL’ler ve intraepitelyal CD3+, CD4+ ve CD8+ TIL’ler dahil olmak üzere, analiz edildiğinde DFS ile korele değildi. Ayrıca, tek değişkenli analiz, tümör hücrelerinde optimal debulking (p=0,010) ve daha yüksek stromal CD8+ TIL ekspresyonu skorlarının (p=0,021) tümünün daha uzun genel sağkalım (OS) ile önemli ölçüde ilişkili olduğunu ortaya koydu. Sonuç: Daha yüksek stromal CD8+ TIL skorları, tek değişkenli analizde DFS ve OS ile anlamlı şekilde ilişkiliyken, stromal CD3+ ve CD4+ TIL’lerin ve intraepitelyal CD3+, CD4+ ve CD8+ TIL’lerin skorları, hem tek değişkenli hem de çok değişkenli analizlerde DFS ve OS ile ilişkili değildi. Ayrıca, PD-1 pozitifliği ile stromal CD3+ TIL’lerin ve intraepitelyal CD8+ TIL’lerin skorları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulundu. Ancak, PD-1 pozitifliği ile HGSOC hastalarının sağkalımı arasında anlamlı bir ilişki gözlenmedi

    Synthesis and Structural Characterization of Y-doped Pyramidal ZnO Powders

    The present study focuses on the structural changes in ZnO powder induced by doping of a rare earth metal of Y. For this aim, we synthesized four ZnO samples with different Y-content using the combustion reaction method. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) technique and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results confirm that the as-investigated structural parameters and morphology of the ZnO structure were affected directly by the concentration of Y dopant. For each Y-doped sample, randomly-oriented pyramidal morphology and the formation of a minority phase of Y2O3 were observed. A gradual increase in both lattice parameters and unit cell volume was detected with increasing Y content. All samples were found to be thermally stable in the temperature interval of 25-950 °C

    Bu araştırmada, Karadeniz’in Samsun ili kıyılarındaki iki farklı av sahasında demersal trol ile avlanan barbunya (Mullus barbatus ponticus Ess., 1927) ve mezgit (Merlangius merlangus euxinus Nord., 1840) balıklarının av miktarı ve boy kompozisyonları karşılaştırılmıştır. Terme-Çarşamba arası (I. Saha) ve Çarşamba-Samsun arasında (II. Saha) yapılan 14 trol ağı çekimi sonunda 6581.2 kg mezgit avlanırken 935.2 kg barbunya avlanmıştır. I. sahada avlanan mezgit ve barbunya miktarı 2203.6 kg, 809.5 kg iken II. sahada 4377.6 kg ve 125.7 kg olarak belir-lenmiştir. Avlanan mezgitlerin ortalama toplam boyu 13.00.10 cm olarak hesaplanırken bu değer I. saha için 12.60,14 cm, II. saha için 13.40.13 cm olarak tespit edilmiştir (p0.05). Barbunyanın ortalama boy değerleri sırasıyla 12.10.14 cm, 11.70.14 cm ve 12.40.13 cm olarak belirlenmiştir (p0.05). Elde edilen sonuçlar, av sahasının türlerin av miktarı ve boy kompozisyonu üzerinde etkisinin olduğunu ve dip trolü ile hedef türe yönelik başarılı bir avcı-lık için saha seçiminin önemini ortaya koymuştur.In this study, catch amount and size composition of red mullet (Mullus barbatus ponticus Ess., 1927) and whiting (Merlangius merlangus euxinus Nord., 1840) were compared in two different fishing areas in Samsun coast of Black Sea. Red mullet and whiting were caught 6581.2 kg and 935.2 kg in I. area (Samsun-&Ccedil;arşamba) and II. area (&Ccedil;arşamba-Terme) respectively in total 14 tows. Catch amount of whiting and red mullet caught I. area and II. area were established, 2203.6 kg and 125.7 kg; 4377.6 kg and 809.5 kg respectively. Total mean size fished whiting and red mullet for I. fishing area, II. fishing area and general were determined, 12.6 &plusmn;0.14, 13.4 &plusmn;0.13 and 13.0 &plusmn;0.10 cm; 12.4 &plusmn;0.13, 12.1 &plusmn;0.14 and 11.7 &plusmn;0.14 cm respectively in the study (p&lt;0.05).
